Sword of Doom # 45 - 47

Spectrum's Comments: When we last left the Company of the Sword, they were attacking a band of trolls and things were not going well...

Sword of Doom #45

The company vs. the trolls continues...

Crandor is enraged as the trolls attack. His longsword slices into his foe again and it drops. Seeing the troll over Gathis, Crandor takes a few steps and drives his short sword into it's back.

Jonathon casts a Color Spray and positions himself to catch two of the creatures. One is unaffected, the other drops to the ground. Mastiff leaps on top of the stunned troll and repeatedly stabs it with his blade.

Omni swings his great sword again, cleanly cleaving the troll right below it's waist. The two portions tumble down the hillside.

Schar turns and rushes down hill towards the inert form of Perrel. The troll she was fighting leaps after her. She sidesteps at precisely the right instant and it tumbles on past.

Reaching Perrel, she gives him Azrella's blessing and life returns to his eyes.

Arathnasis casts a Web spell. Right before finishing the spell, his sharp elven sight notices more trolls emerging from the cave. Throwing his Web over the cave opening, he traps all the extra trolls inside.

Selarin calls for Tymora's blessing and fires arrows at the troll over Gathis. His aim is true and the shafts pierce the troll.

Eliza swings her katana once more and drops the troll fighting her.

Tristan also hits, driving both of his blades into his foe. The troll still stands. Drakkor gives him a hand and slices its left arm off.

The wounded troll leaps at drakkor and bites him.

Raith conjures a Magic Missile and sends it at the troll over Gathis. At last the troll falls.

Only two of the trolls remain. One biting Drakkor, the other advancing on Schar and Perrel.

Arathnasis rushes towards the trolls imprisoned in his Web. Casting Burning Hands, he ignites the web, roasting the trolls inside.

Eliza and Omni finish off the troll menacing Drakkor. It lands in five pieces when they are done.

Crandor half runs/slides down the hillside and makes a flying tackle on the last troll. The two land in a heap. They struggle for a moment, but Crandor finishes him off with his swords.

Selarin throws a CLW on Gathis and he is no longer in danger of perishing.

More oil is added to the bon-fire at the cave entrance and the trolls are tossed on. It creates a foul odor, but the menace of the trolls is now over.

Now what troll slayers??

SUBJ: Gathis from: rad dweebe 05/30/91 s#: 458836

Semi-consciously, Gathis sees two arrows come at him through the trolls' body. He begins to scream as the arrows protrude toward him, but they stop in time. Then the troll's body is hit by a magical force, and Gathis thanks the gods for Raith. He drifts off, knowing he will be saved.

When he gains consciousness, he sees the trolls burning...sweet revenge. He knows the souls of his friends are now resting in peace.

He suggests waiting a day until the fire and smoke dissipate to enter the lair.

SUBJ: Raith From: samuel ls 05/31/91 s#: 511136

"By the great mother of mystery, I did it, no, wait, we did it" Raith yells as he see's the troll fall by the power of his magic.

He then runs to Gathis side and administers a CLW to him. "in the name of mystery, be healed of your wounds."

(I guess I was wrong, we were not in deep.)

Raith will support waiting till the fire is out and the cave looks safe before entering the foul lair. (Raith will, if the party rests (we better!), memorize CLW again and this time Sleep as his mage spell.)

SUBJ: Crandor... From: GM Falcon 05/31/91 s#: 513630

Crandor, his mind literally gone for the moment, will be howling obscenities as he fights, stopping only when the breath is knocked out of him by a flying leap onto a troll's back.

"Piece of [garbled]", Crandor concludes as his swords bite deep. He proceeds to savagely dismember the troll and toss the parts onto the fire.

Turning to the rest of the party, he advances on Eliza. Ominously, he rumbles, "Your honor satisfied now, or are you going to endanger us all some more?" He turns to Omni, and in the heat of the moment his true feelings, dating back to his initial aversion to Schar, come through: (though there are some very good reasons ;))

"You see, Omni? This is the kind of thing that happens when you let a woman fight!!"

SUBJ: Schar (R) FROM: Schar 05/31/91 S#: 434289

Seeing Perrel go down, I run from my troll to aid him. Looking back I see the troll leap at me. I move aside at the last moment and it flies past.

Upon reaching Perrel, I'm horrified to see his wounds.

"Oh, Lady Azrella hear my prayers. Grant me your aid!"

I cast Cure Light Wounds on Perrel and he begins to come around.

Looking up, I see Crandor tackle the troll that chased me. I smile slightly and return to my task. Taking bandages from my backpack, I start to bind Perrel's wounds.

As I work, I see Perrel open his eyes.

"Lie still, my love. You are going to be all right. Rest now."

I am so engrossed in my work that I fail to notice or hear Crandor's activities after the battle is over.

SUBJ: Perrel... (r) From: GM Kill 06/01/91 s#: 441374

I lounge about in a blissful unconsciousness', not aware of the pain racking my body, or the blood slowly leaking out of it.

Then I feel a touch, the softest and sweetest touch I've ever felt, and I know instinctively that it is Schar's touch, for no other touch could feel that good.

I follow the touch, with all my heart. But the longer I follow it, the more pain I start to feel, until I feel reluctant to go through any more pain. I remember the touch though, and ask myself if such pain is worth feeling that touch again. The answer surprises me though, as I realize I would go through any pain for that touch.

Bracing myself, I plow forward, and feel the pain kick in full force. Realizing that I'm conscious again, I slowly open my eyes to the sight of an angel looking down at me, an angel I quickly realize is Schar.

"Thank you M'lady Tymora, for showing your luck upon your servant." I say softly, my voice a hoarse whisper. "Thank you Azrella, for the spells I have received."

I then reach up, and softly caress Schar's cheek.

"And thank you, Schar, just for being you... my love." I say with a weak smile.

SUBJ: Omni From: Omni Tuens 06/02/91 s#: 396203

Omni allows his rage to fade as the last of the trolls fall. He wears an unreadable expression on his face.

"This was savage- savage but necessary. We couldn't run the risk of them killing any others."

When he sees just how angry Crandor is, he steps in front of him, holding up a hand to silence him.

"Enough, Crandor. I will handle Eliza in due time; and now is not that time."

"Everyone uninjured lend a hand with the wounded and prepare to move out- we're going back to Argent and our mysterious castle. We can come back to double-check this area tomorrow, when the dust clears, the flame dies, and our wounded are safe."

Omni then proceeds to get the company back into motion, making sure the injured are tended. He ignores the swordswoman completely.

SUBJ: Eliza FROM: Zynara 06/02/91 S#: 397028

As the last of the trolls are tossed into the fire, Eliza kneels on the ground and lays her katana on the ground before her. She closes her eyes and those listening close enough can hear a very low monotonous hum. When Crandor comes and yells at her, she stays just as she is. She will not defend herself and she keeps her eyes shut. When Omni gives the order to gather the wounded and return to the castle, she takes up guard position and assists when asked.

When they arrive at thee castle, she heads straight for the tapestry with all the ships. Once there, she kneels as she did back at the trolls' cave.

She responds to no one until Omni comes to lecture her. When he starts in she interrupts, "Lord Omni. In my eyes I have my honor. If I do not have my honor in your eyes, end my service now." She then bares her neck while she is on her hands and knees with her katana resting across her hands.

SUBJ: Selarin FROM: GrooToo 06/02/91 S#: 822922

As the Trolls fall to our fearsome attacks I continue to tend Gathis. "Relax, friend the trolls are no more." I will Help him as much as possible with Clw spells whenever possible and wait until we get back to the castle. Once there I will go to the shrine of Tymora and pray. "Tymora my lady your servant gives his most heartfelt thanks for your blessing on our current crisis any price is worth your continued favor and your servant is quite willing to do whatever is asked of him." I also pray for my Clw*2 and for guidance on this quest. After this prayer time I will go with Omni to explore the Troll lair.

Selarin

SUBJ: Drakkor FROM: Troll 3a 06/03/91 S#: 493899

I will drag myself back to the castle and then I will rest.

SUBJ: Omni FROM: Omni Tuens 06/04/91 S#: 510551

Omni listens with an exasperated expression to Eliza's explanation. "End your service, hmmm? Very well." He reaches down, picks up her sword, and...... ....slings it over his back. "Get up, Eliza. No, I do not think that what you did was honorable. Your actions could have gotten us all killed, and very nearly did. I want you to think about this all...and act with your mind, not your sword. Show me you can do this, and you may have your blade back."

SUBJ: Arathnasis FROM: Wildchilde 06/05/91 S#: 404635

Araths eyes glaze over as he moves on the Trolls he seems a man possessed. Mumbling the words to 2 spells the cave is quickly becoming an inferno, He spins around sword and shield in hand.

"Come on foul beasts are there none left to fight me!" Seeing no enemies to attack his anger subsided a bit and he heads back to the castle with the group. Saying "Let us return as soon as possible, let's see what the monsters had gathered.!"

SUBJ: Schar FROM: Schar 06/05/91 S#: 788412

Once Perrel is capable of being moved, I help him ride back to the keep.

"Come on, Perrel. We've got to get you to bed. I need to change your bandages again."

Once I have my patient rested, I cast a second CLW on him. I tend to his bandages and them move on to the others who are wounded. Offering to aid in heal (By proficiency) and my last CLW to whoever looks to be in the worst shape.

Assuming Argent has cooked again, I'll fetch a plate for Perrel and assist my patient in eating.

Late that night, I'll finally look for a place to rest once all the patients have been looked after.

Come the morning, I'll pray for me spells. (Same as last time, GM.)

Once more, I'll offer to heal Eliza, but will only do so if she agrees.

Sword of Doom #46

After dealing with the trolls, the Company returns to Karn's Keep. Nothing has happened at the keep since you left. Upon returning, you find that Argent has a meal waiting for you.

The wounded are given comfortable resting positions. The clerics do their best to heal the wounded. (Those accepting healing of course.)

Omni approaches Eliza about the issue of her Honor. He takes her katana remarking that he'll return it when she learns to "Make decisions with her mind, not her sword". (See last post for more details.)

The night passes without incident.

Next day, a several of the Company return to the troll cave to search for goodies. The fire has long since gone out. No survivors are found in the cave. (No burned bodies are found, suggesting that they were all dead before you arrived.)

Trash and garbage litters the cave floor. Coins are scattered everywhere, but most have melted from the heat of the fire. Some emerge unscathed.

After hours of searching, 1200 cp, 800 sp and 500 gp are located. You also uncover 2 bottles of liquid and 1 scroll with strange writing on it.

(Note: GM did I memorize my spells and what is the my current XP [if it is not a problem]?)

SUBJ: Omni FROM: Omni Tuens 06/07/91 S#: 519154

Omni is pleased to see the plunder gathered from the trolls, considering the circumstances. He'll double-check to make sure that the wounded are comfortable, and that the clerics aren't burning themselves out. Once everything appears in relative order, he'll try and speak with Argent:

"While we were gone, did you have a chance to further investigate your theory regarding the curtains?"

Regardless of her answer, Omni will ask her to go over the curtains with him, as he has yet to examine them.

OOC: Your party leader was a lazy bum first time around...so sue! ;D

SUBJ: Gathis (R) FROM: RAD DWEEBE 06/08/91 S#: 517921

Thanks the cleric for curing him, he thought this was the final journey :/

He then speaks with raith about the old times of their journey, and awaits Omni's decision on what to do next.

SUBJ: Argent (R) FROM: Enchantres 06/08/91 S#: 474516

I am greatly relieved to see the others return. That happiness fades as I see how wounded they are.

'A waste of time', I mutter to myself. 'That had nothing to do with the quest for the sword. We'll never find it if we keep getting sidetracked.'

After dinner, Omni locates and asks about the tapestries and my theories.

::takes deep breath::

'Here is what I believe is going on. As we know, Lord Kairn was the last known possessor of the Sword of Doom. Our quest remember? During the war, a band of adventurers took the keep by surprise and defeated Kairn and his followers. The sword was not found. That same group latter moved into this place. They were never heard from again. Then we have these tapestries here. The first three deal with typical macho-man stuff. You'd understand it far better then I. Things get interesting in the fourth. It has a snow scene with an ice-like dagger in the middle. After that is a swamp, with a moldy piece of wood in it's middle. Next is a city. A silver key is in the middle this time. After that are mountains and a stone dagger. The last is what appears to be a sargasso sea. A vast graveyard of ships.'

I pause for a moment, wondering why Eliza kneeled before this particular tapestry. Strange.

'Sorry, went off a different train of thought for a moment. Prominently featured in this last tapestry is a glowing sword. The Doomsword perhaps?? This all suggested to me that Kairn hide the sword. Perhaps even as the keep fell. They seemed to suggest that items in the center of the tapestries would be found in the locations pictured. Not so. Selarin, I believe it was Selarin, found a crystal dagger that very much looks like the one in the tapestry. I then found another in the kitchen. Two identical daggers? Very strange. You yourself located the strange pillar formation in the basement. It bears the words of those known as the Elders. These words spoke of great magic activated by the pillars. The power to allow people to cover great distances in an instant. Teleportation. Stranger still, the tops of these pillars had indentations. These indentations match exactly the items on the tapestries. Based on this new information, I concluded that my first observation was incorrect. We need the item in the center of the tapestry to GO to the place pictured. The object is placed in the pillars and they create a gateway there. It is in that place where we should find the object to take us to the next location; all the way until we arrive at the Sargasso where I believe that the Doomsword is hid.'

More on next page.

SUBJ: More Argent FROM: Enchantres 06/08/91 S#: 495986

::Takes another deep breath::

'As I see it, we have two choices. One, follow out this quest as Kairn wants us to. That's where the old guy may have outsmarted himself. The second choice is to attempt to locate this sargasso in the last tapestry. If we can locate it, then we can cut short this quest and leap to the end of it.'

'If we can remove the invisible guardian from the library, perhaps the tomes therein can give us a clue to where the sargasso is. As I recall, I was pestering you about this when the trolls came up. To make our live easier, we need to remove the magic on the door to the mage sector. I have to knock it to get in and knock it to get back out. Perhaps Schar may be able to dispel it. There may also be more magic inside.'

::a slight smile at that thought::

'Those are my theories, Lord Omni. How shall we proceed from here?'

Seeing the new mages, Raith and Gathis about, I will finally introduce myself.

'Hello, my name is Argent. I'm a specialist in Invoker magic. I do not know how you handled spells in your late group, but we of the Company tend to share. I place my spell book open for you, if you do so for me.'

My first level spellbook contains:

Erase, Chill Touch, Alarm, Color Spray, Detect Magic, Identify, Magic Missile, Phantasmal Force, Read Magic, Shocking Grasp, Hold Portal, Tenser's Floating Disk, Shield, Gaze Reflection, Feather Fall and Reduce.

GM: I'll Email my spell lists once Omni decides what we are going to do next.

Spectrum's Comments: Argent was kind enough to lay out the gist of the quest there.

SUBJ: Selarin FROM: GrooToo 06/08/91 S#: 454847

Listening to Argent carefully I get a grip on her train of thought." In theory I agree with your assessment Argent but cutting to the end of the quest though the tapestries might not be a good idea. We should do a more thorough search of the castle first and make sure we didn't leave anything else (like more crystal daggers) Behind. The room is all up to you I certainly can't deal with a mage-construct so I'm afraid I'll do very little to help there. We could take down detailed descriptions of the tapestries and at the nearest town Inquire about the possible locations. That could be done easily by one or two people leaving the rest of us to search and work on the room. Finally I don't relish jumping through a portal or teleporter when I'm not positive of the exit point. Those are my ideas and I would volunteer to go to the town and inquire. That would solve the problem you stated earlier Argent, by finding out ahead of time where these places are we Might be able to bypass them but I wouldn't count on it. What do you say Omni?" After doing this I will listen to Argent, Omni or anyone else with an idea. Then I will go to the shrine of Tymora and pray for my spells. Notably Clw*3 and Command.

Selarin

I would'nt mind seeing Xp's too Mad.:)

SUBJ: Schar FROM: Schar 06/08/91 S#: 513724

I follow Omni and Argent when they speak of the tapestries.

"I too find your reasoning to be sound, Argent. However, how can we be sure that this isn't a elaborate ruse to lead us away from the sword? The sword could be very well hidden here in the Keep. Or it could have been found long ago. Regardless, my suggestion would be to search the keep and liberate the library so that we can do research."

I'll attempt to dispel the magic on the door to the library as Argent suggested. Otherwise, I'll tend to the wounded.

SUBJ: Omni (R) FROM: Omni Tuens 06/09/91 S#: 445107

"You're definitely on to something, Argent. Indeed, our only other lead is to go all the way to the site of the battle and see what remains there...not very likely to bring results. However, we just don't know enough yet to take bold steps along the path the curtains reveal. If possible, see if you can go ahead and gain access to the library, and I'll make sure this entire keep is scoured. Also, I would like to send a group to the distant town...it should help us get our bearings, let us resupply, maybe gain us access to a library providing clues, and provide 'shore leave' for anyone who wants a brief rest. Everyone please let me know if you're interested in the trip, or staying here and researching the pillars, library, and tapestries."

"One other thing, Argent...I'm afraid I do find one flaw in your logic. The Legend says that no one who participated in that final large battle survived. If that is the case...who made the tapestries?"

OOC: Summary

That's the way I see our options... Follow one of Argent's leads (which we need to develop further), stay in the keep and research, or go to town- do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars.

SUBJ: Arath FROM: Wildchilde 06/09/91 S#: 802930

Arathnasis looks worn after the plundering of the Trolls lair and lays himself to sleep, (Memorize: Burning Hands, Magic Missle, Web).

When he awakes he will urge the mages to go back to the room with the book, and our invisible friend!!

SUBJ: Crandor.. FROM: GM Falcon 06/09/91 S#: 841336

"I think Argent has it..", the ranger finally speaks. "Perhaps no one survived the final great battle, but suppose this Kairn made the tapestries against the day he might fall? Even if he was caught by surprise, he DID know there was a war on."

"I imagine our missing crystal dagger or whatever is in the room we can't get at."

"I do NOT recommend going to town. Getting our bearings would be nice, but if we all go, we might miss something vital here. If we separate, then we're in that much more peril."

SUBJ: Perrel... FROM: Count Kill 06/10/91 S#: 797233

Now, that I'm healed up enough to actually move without large amounts of pain, I aid in the healing of everyone, including myself.

I limber up as I listen to everyone throw out ideas and theories about the tapestries, trying to figure out what they're saying.

I listen carefully, but have no theories of my own to offer, so I just continue stretching, and twisting the kinks out.

When no one else is around, I wander over by Schar and kiss her on the cheek.

"Hi there. I wanted to thank you again for healing me." I say.

"You look kind of tired, you've been doing a lot of healing, haven't you?"

"Well, here, let me help you now." I say, before putting my hands on her shoulders and rubbing them.

"I learned this when I was taught tumbling. It's great for relieving tense muscles." I say as I continue massaging her shoulders, and then start massaging down her back.

"Let me know if it hurts any, I'll know I've hit a tender area that'll need some extra work."

I'll continue massaging her shoulders and back until she's more relaxed, or she says she's had enough.

Later on, I'll go the temple of Tymora and pray for my spells, and find myself having a strange vision as I do. A vision of traveling through a chaotic realm, where new things make themselves known to me, and suddenly I know that this is Tymora's doing, and I pay close attention to what she is teaching me.

When I finish praying, I thank Tymora for gifting her servant with more spell possibilities, and then I dash off to find Selarin.

"Selarin! Have you walked through the lands of chaos?!" I say excitedly. "The lady has gifted me with more knowledge."

SUBJ: Argent FROM: Enchantres 06/10/91 S#: 846727

'Do not misunderstand me. I believe that we should explore this keep fully before we decide to move on or attempt to use the pillars. I have the feeling that many secrets are hidden in its halls.'

'I would consider going into town to be extremely dangerous. Do not forget that we are in unfriendly lands. We have no reason to expect any assistance for those down below in the town.'

'Freeing the library should be our first priority. To do so, we are going to need most of the Company to assist. I fully expect that the guardian will put up a fight once we strike. This could get nasty. My suggested plan of attack is as before. Attempt to coat the creature with something so that we can see it. Flour would work nicely. Next have our warriors attack while we mages pound it with magic missiles. Your opinion Omni??'

I will also request that Schar attempt to dispel the magic on the door so that we have free access to the mage area.

Spells in memory: Magic Missile x2, Detect Magic, Read Magic, Web, Knock x2.

SUBJ: Schar FROM: Schar 06/11/91 S#: 456985

I am momentarily surprised when Perrel offers his thanks. I willingly melt into his arms.

"I'm not used to this kind of thank you's. But I'm learning."

His hands feel good as they move down my back. In fact I seem to be purring. ;D

"Unless you object, what say we go back to the kissing part?"

When Argent presents her ideas, I'll attempt to dispel the door as she suggests. I have two attempts so hopefully Azrella will permit me to succeed in removing the magic.

Those gaining new levels now function as that level. Send skill or new proficiency updates as needed. The XP's include the events of the following post.

The Company decides to remove the guardian of the library.

Schar attempts to Dispel the magic on the door to this area, but is unsuccessful on either attempt. (Burned both Dispel Magic's.)

Argent Knock's the door and the group enters.

This time the group is ready for the guardian. Taking flour in hand, Argent walks into the library. She is immediately lifted into the air. Argent then dumps the flour on the guardian.

It doesn't quite outline it's features has hoped, but does provide a good idea where the creature is.

The mages hit the guardian with Magic Missiles as the warriors advance. Argent's missiles seemingly fizzle out as they near the guardian. Arathnasis and Jonathon's missile strike.

A sudden wind fills the library. Argent is hurtled over twenty feet through the air and meets with a rude landing.

Crandor strikes the guardian with his longsword. Whatever this thing is, it can be harmed by swords!

Drakkor follows up with a hit with his own sword. Eliza misses with her broadsword.

Omni connects twice and the guardian slows noticeably. Perrel attacks with his sabre and almost breaks it!

Tristan hits with his longsword and the guardian suddenly "poofs" out of existence. The wind is now gone.

The group explores the library without any interference.

Against the northern wall of the room, a huge book rests upon a cabinet underneath a clear glass dome. The words "Spells, Level 1 to 4" are written on the cover in Kelnish.

A large, inlaid map of this region of the world lies on the floor in the middle of the room.

A quick sampling of the books reveals that many are historical texts. Some are about dwarves and elves. A few cover legends and artifacts.

It will take many days to skim over the contents of the library.

The spiral stairsways also continue upwards from the library.

SUBJ: Perrel... FROM: GM Kill 06/14/91 S#: 447498

Backtracking...

When Schar asks to go back to the kissing, I smile widely.

"I thought you'd never ask." I say with a sly smile, before leaning over and kissing her warmly on the lips.

As we kiss, my feelings for Schar race through me, making me feel better than I have ever felt in my life. But, my hormones race through me too, and I grow more and more excited with each moment.

Thus, I'm none too happy when the others interrupt us to go break into the library, as I scowl and look longingly at Schar the whole way up to the library.

Once at the library, I'm none too thrilled with the prospect of fighting some guardian, just because all these mages have a mad craving for pieces of paper.

But, I join in the battle, shielding Schar as I do.

After the battle, while the mages dig into their treasure trove, I wander over and heal Crandor, since he looks like he could use it.

I'm feeling much more relaxed around Crandor now, and I realize that I was jealous of him before. I wonder why I'm suddenly more relaxed around him, and realize that it's because he's not after Schar, he looked at her like that the first time we met, because he didn't like her in the party.

"So, I guess we met something with more wind than Omni." I say with a conspiratorial wink, and a joking smile, while healing him.

When Selarin comes up and starts talking about how Eliza was worried about me, I look at him surprised, before stealing a glance at Eliza out the corner of my eye.

Then he mentions, that I should go after Eliza, as apparently we're attracted to each other.

"Um...well, I would, but I've already got a lady in mind, and besides she's just coming off that disastrous relationship with Omni, she just wants me on the rebound is all."

"Once she's had some time to think it over, I'm certain she'll see that she'd be better off with someone else in the party, like Arath, or Crandor, or even you." I say with a smile, and a slight nudge.

"Why don't you go over and talk to her? I'll bet the two of you could find some interesting things to talk about."

After that, I wander over by Schar, and whisper in her ear.

"I can't wait until we're done here." I say before nibbling slightly on her earlobe.

SUBJ: Omni FROM: Omni Tuens 06/15/91 S#: 426431

Omni grimaces as his plans for an expedition to the town get a group veto. "Okay, how 'bout we don't go, then?"

The fighter pleases himself by connecting solidly in the combat, and afterwards looks around to make sure no one is badly hurt. "This should give you mages the chance you needed to look around...I'm no scholar, but hopefully this will give us a better idea regarding our next move towards the sword." He smiles.

The smile quickly turns serious as nods to Crandor. "I agree. We need to see what's up there as soon as possible. Volunteers only...I'll take the lead."

OOC: Kill- as soon as I figure out what you were talking to me about or healing me for in your post, I'll respond. ;D

SUBJ: Schar (R) FROM: Schar 06/15/91 S#: 826063

My heart pounds rapidly and my palms feel sweaty as I embrace Perrel. What is this strange effect he has on me? Would mother approve of this man?

My thoughts are interrupted when it comes time to go to the library. I try to remove the magic on the door, but it is too strong.

Once inside, I watch the combat from a safe distance. I move to help Argent, but see Selarin already aiding her. She is in safe hands.

I glance at the books, just seeing what there is. If there are any books on religions or healing I'll take a peek in them.

As this is going on, Perrel comes over and starts to nibble.

"Please! Not in front of everyone."

My face turns red with embarrassment.

"People are watching. What say you locate a more, shall we say, private location?" ;D

Spectrum's Comments: As you've probably noted in this post, these two have started to get very close to each other.

SUBJ: Argent FROM: Enchantres 06/15/91 S#: 444979

The Invoker picks herself off of the floor after her free flying lesson. I see Selarin rush towards me and offer assistance.

'Thanks, but you should wait until the guardian is... Never mind. It's gone.'

I run to the place where the book is, but I do not touch the glass or any part of the stand it is on. I tell anyone in the area not to touch it.

'Careful. It could be trapped.'

I cast Detect Magic and scan the book and the stand. Once I find something magical, I'll attempt to learn its type.

GM, don't I get a 3rd level Invoker spell for becoming 5th level? Hmm?

When I have the time, I'll try to learn the following spells from the captured spellbooks.

Lightning Bolt, Spectral Force, Ward Against Undead, Slow, Protection From Evil 10' radius, Water Breathing, Paralyze, Fly, Feign Death, Fireball, Vampiric Touch, Dispel Magic, Phantom Steed, Skull Watch, Hovering Skull.

Spectrum's Comments: You know it's pretty bad when you forget to award your own character their bonus spells! Sheesh! Of course doing such things made it seem as if they were different people too.

SUBJ: Raith FROM: Samuel L S 06/15/91 S#: 405903

"Well, my dear friends, it seems we have one." Raith says after the invisible beast is apparently destroyed.

"I am afraid I am out of this expedition Omni, I am more of a reader, or what ever you humans call a learned person." Raith rubs his hands greedily as he says this and walks after Argent, heeding her warning fully, and waiting for the result of her Detect Magic.

"With magic, we must always be careful."

GM, I believe I have one more spell and it will be (clerical) detect magic. If I used a magic missile in the last combat, I will memorize it again. [If I did have another spell, then disregard the last sentence.]

See ya next post (I am finally out of school and now a Junior!!!!)

SUBJ: GM Notes: (R) FROM: GM Mad 06/16/91 S#: 418835

It only takes 1 CLW from Selarin to heal Argent.

Perrel throws some CLW's on Crandor, raising him to 47 of 60.

Going up the staircases, you discover that both end at hatches to the next floor. Both are locked and try as you might (Str or picking) neither can be opened.

Argent casts Detect Magic. The book glows, but she determines that it is illusionary magic. She can also weakly detect magic inside the cabinet the book is on.

I did forget about your extra spell Argent. You received Lightning Bolt.

You'll be able to learn the following spells: Spectral Force, Ward Against Undead, Slow, Paralyze, Fly, Feign Death, Fireball, Vampiric Touch, Dispel Magic, Phantom Steed and Hovering Skull.

Raith you did not have Magic Missile in Memory. You took Sleep. Also, this includes Selarin too; spells can only be recovered after a good nights rest. It is impossible to regain spells otherwise.

SUBJ: Selarin FROM: GrooToo 06/16/91 S#: 826344

Sorry guys I made a mistake on my second post. Who I meant to say was Schar not Eliza was worried about you Perrel I goofed and put down their wrong name sorry!

Serves me right for not checking my notes before posting though.

GrooToo

SUBJ: Argent FROM: Enchantres 06/16/91 S#: 425675

After thanking Selarin for my healing, I check out the book. Casting Detect Magic I examine the book. I concentrate for several minutes and then look away with a thoughtful grin on my face.

'Do not touch the case. The book is only an illusion. The bait in a trap I'd wager. But there is something in the stand the book rests upon. I'm not sure what it is. Perhaps the trap itself, or something else. Would one of the thieves please examine this? Your skills maybe able to determine what type of trap it is.'

I watch as Omni and the others go up the stairs. Seeing them struggle to open the hatches, I shout: 'Wizard Locked, I'd wager. A standard defense for a mage. Unfortunately, what lies beyond those hatches will have to wait. I have only 1 Knock left and we'll need it to get out of the library. Perhaps we should explore other portions of the Keep. Surely the other ways are only sealed by mechanical locks. It would be impossible for this place to function if every door was Wizard Locked. It will give the thieves time to practice.'

Argent is greatly pleased with the expansion of her magic. After concluding the spell formula for Lightning Bolt, she rushes to right it down. Her mentor would be proud to see that her pupil has learned the most desired Invoker spell. When time permits, I happily write the new spells into my book.

Argent seems much more confident in herself, almost power-happy you could say. It's a far cry from the woman who was horrified by her own helplessness against the Zombie Master.

I'll spend my time doing research in the library, mastering my new magicks, and continuing to function as the group chef.

I approach Omni: 'Lord Omni, this keep is holds a fantastic wealth of knowledge. Since it appears to be unowned, perhaps the Company good claim it as our base? I for one could learn to like it here very much. What say you?'

Priorities as I see it are to:

1- Remove magic on door to library area.

2- research the tomes for clues to our quest.

3- find the spell books of the mages who used to live here.

4- explore beyond the wizard locked doors in the upper towers.

Sigh... So much to do...

Spectrum's Comments: Ironically, when Argent speaks of her mentor I never did offically state just who that was because I hadn't decided on such at thing at that time. In fact, her mentor has been refered to as both being male and female. Offically, her mentor is Jallarzi Salavarion who has appeared in the New Frontiers game on the forum. She had the same teacher as Kylie.

SUBJ: Omni FROM: Omni Tuens 06/17/91 S#: 521123

Omni is extremely frustrated as he pounds on the hatch, but seems to be getting nowhere. With a frown, he comes back down from the stairs, new ideas stirring in his head.

"I'm going to try going upstairs by another route, and see how close I can get to the sealed off area. At least that way, we can determine how large an area we're aiming at, and what it could potentially hold."

"Argent, once you knock the door to the library open again, we either need to simply remove it from its hinges, or have a willing cleric dispel the magic on the door. Using a spell for coming and going each time gets tedious, not to mention exhausting for you."

"As far as making here a base.... what say the rest of you? I have no strong opposition to the idea, but I feel I should point out we already do we a mansion in Gateway. Not to mention this place is also in a state of disrepair...we would have to put in more than a little work to make it more suitable."

Regardless of the decision on staying at this place, Omni will raise the drawbridge (enlisting help if necessary) since it is becoming obvious they'll be here for awhile.

SUBJ: Crandor.. FROM: GM Falcon 06/17/91 S#: 431314

Crandor mutters at the locked door, and then turns with a sigh.

When the question of the new 'Knock' spell comes up (leaving the library), the ranger asks rather pointedly:

"Why don't one of you just jam a spike in the floor against the door, so it acts like a door jam?" (Open)

SUBJ: Perrel... (R) FROM: Count Kill 06/19/91 S#: 500576

I smile when Schar blushes, and give her a wink.

"Well, maybe when we finish up here, you and I can slip off somewhere quiet, and continue where we left off." I say with a sly smile, before taking her hand and kissing the back of it.

"But for now, I guess we should try helping to figure out what we should do next." I say, before quite reluctantly turning back to pay attention to what's going on.

I stand about and listen to the various plans for exploration, and figure that the mages and Omni can pretty well figure things out by themselves.

I try to pick the hatch open, but failing that, I just stand around by Schar and await Omni's decision on what's next, my eyes constantly straying towards Schar, before whipping back to see what's going on.

"Maybe there's a set of keys around here somewhere to get us past these unmovable doors?" I say. "Couldn't hurt to look."

With that I start looking around the room for any kind of keys, and if I find anything else of interest, I call Argent over, since she seems to be in command of the exploration of this place.

SUBJ: Mastiff FROM: Mastiff1 06/19/91 S#: 816057

Mastiff examines the glass case after being told about the book. He will search for traps, and try to remove any he encounters. (Making sure to let the others know what he is attempting)

Spectrum's Comments: Next time: The exploration of Karn's Keep continues and more secrets are uncovered.
