Sword of Doom # 26 - 27

Spectrum's Comments: The Zombie Master has fallen. Now the search of his lair begins.

Sword of Doom # 26

While the discussions on the fate of the dead of the graveyard continue, many of the Company search for more secret passages.

Eliza is the first to find one, however it exits the lab in the same wall as the one used to enter the lab. It leads to the same corridor, but comes out right in the intersection.

Selarin finds the second door, also in the lab, but in a different wall. It reveals a 30' long passage ending at a wall. In that wall is another secret door.

This one opens into a good-sized room (30' x 40'). Bookcases filled with books line the walls. A desk in is one corner. There is a table in the middle of the room. A glass sphere, supported by a stand of bones, sits on the table. Two doors exit this room.

One door goes to a bedroom, the other into another corridor. Apart from a bed, table and chair and a chest of clothing, the room is empty.

The corridor winds its way along, until ending at a blank wall. A secret way is found and you find yourself in the room where the stairs go to the surface.

Working back through this corridor, Perrel locates a secret door. This leads into a short, 'U' shaped corridor. It ends at a solid wooden door reinforced with iron bands. It is locked and the thieves seem to be unable to pick it.

GM Notes:

None of the Companies spellcasters have Detect Magic in memory. The Company has been healed as much as possible on this day.

It is now late at night, the Company will need to rest soon.

Hit Points:

Crandor 52 of 62
Schar 17 of 26

The lab holds standard alchemical equipment. Nothing appears to be to far out of the ordinary.

The library holds a great many texts, many about magic, but non appear to be magical. Texts are mainly on necromantic magic, and there is a whole section to the worship of Nerull. Just holding this books gives the holder the willies! The necromantic books will make a fine basis for a fledging necromancers library, unfortunately the books number in the hundreds, each weighting about 4 pounds.

SUBJ: Perrel.... (R) FROM: Count Kill 01/17/91 S#: 457043

"Hmmm..." I say as I examine the door carefully after failing to pick its lock. "Looks like we'll need something stronger than lock picks to open this."

"Berek! How would you like to fling yourself at this door, irregardless of what pain you might inflict upon yourself doing so, to try and force it open?" I ask with a smile.

While we rest, I thank Tymora for the increase I feel in my clerical abilities, and pray to her, letting her know my joy. I also silently ask her, if she could arrange for the party to somehow lose that Ranger who appeared from nowhere, like maybe the party would get lucky enough to lose him.

When I'm not praying, trying to open the door, or healing whoever is left injured if I can, I'll keep an eye on Crandor while seeing if I can somehow help Schar with whatever she's doing.

"Omni, we might as well rest here, we've taken care of ZM, so we might as well stay here tonight, finish exploring tomorrow, and then collapse the place. Yes, I'm still up for collapsing this place, mainly because fire doesn't burn earth, and stone very well, and we don't know if we've missed any passages or not."

SUBJ: Drakkor (R) FROM: Troll 3a 01/18/91 S#: 842034

"I say all us warriors get a log and pound down the door!" I await a reply.

SUBJ: Omni Tuens FROM: Omni Tuens 01/18/91 S#: 483453

Omni follows the other Company members around with enthusiasm lacking, disliking his current surroundings, and showing almost no interest in the objects they see, outside of disgust. When they come to the unopenable door, he leans against a wall, fidgeting with his ring as he waits for the rogues to open it. When they finally admit defeat (or are told they're defeated), Omni nods his head.

"There's obviously something extremely valuable behind this door. Since the lock won't cooperate, the only option I see is force. Your idea could work Drakkor, but we seem to be short on logs....we'll have to improvise."

He then begins looking around for something to break the door down with, going so far as to check within the Company to see whom all is carrying maces. When it becomes apparent darkness is falling, Omni reluctantly admits spending the night is the best plan.

"Let's post double watches tonight, just to be safe.... I still don't like this place. I'll take the first watch, with whoever is willing. Jonathon, take whatever books you want and can carry...maybe you'll even find party members willing to help you carry some. However, I must stress that I can't permit any experiments that involve animating the dead. I'm sorry if I offend you by merely making that statement, but several people have joined our company since its beginning, and may not understand your reasons for being a necromancer as well as the rest of us.

As far as collapsing this evil place, I'd like to do so also, but Schar has a valid point. We must notify the people of Waypoint before any permanent action is taken against this evil place."

SUBJ: DOOR FROM: GrooToo 01/18/91 S#: 21131

I examine the door carefully looking for unusual runes, carvings or other marks that could be from summoning or imprisoning something. As for staying the night that's fine and I volunteer for last watch. This night I memorize CLW*2 and Detect magic if I can.

SUBJ: Perrel... (R) FROM: Count Kill 01/19/91 S#: 520119

"True, it would be nice to check with them, but we don't know what may wander out of here while we do. Waypoint is not exactly around the next bend."

"Plus, I don't think they'll really mind us destroying the mausoleum, if it ends the evil of the Dark Donkey Dropping." I say to Omni. "But actually, when I think of it, we probably won't be able to collapse it thouroughly anyway. There's too few of us to undertake such a large task."

"I'll help you with the first watch. This way you can keep your eye on me." I say with a smile, and a chuckle.

While we're at camp, I'll try to talk to Argent privately.

"Argent..."I say softly to her. "Please accept my apologies for what happened back on the stairs. I didn't mean to upset you, or in any way belittle you."

"You just haven't the experience in combat that some of us have, and while you're idea was a sound one, it would've been a fatal one as well."

"I wouldn't have just tried to make it sound as if you were wrong if I had a chance, but I had to cut you off so quickly then, so no on acted on the idea. And now I would just like to apologize for the abruptness with which I countered your idea, and point out that it wasn't done to make you look foolish."

"So, I certainly hope you will accept my apologies." I say with a warm smile, and a quick bow of respect.

Once I'm finished talking to Argent, I'll make my way over next to Schar.

"I wonder what type of night it is?" I say as I sit next to her. "I prefer the cloudless nights, where you can see the stars in the sky, and the glowing silver radiance of the moon, which is almost, but not quite, as radiant as you." I say with a soft smile, while staring into her eyes.

SUBJ: Crandor... FROM: GM Falcon 01/19/91 S#: 39713

Crandor looks at Schar, and the faint disapproval in his eyes flares to open anger. He manages to get out of the situation with a simple, albeit crisp "No, thank you..". He stalks away.

He goes to Omni. "I agree with (Perrel?), if this Waypoint isn't within half a day's travel then we should take the initiative and destroy this place now. We can not allow the evil here to escape."

He then stalks off, openly scowling at anyone within ten feet, to be alone.

SUBJ: GM Notes FROM: GM Mad 01/19/91 S#: 416170

Waypoint is approximately 20 miles due east of the graveyard. Of course, the trek is through the forest and across hills, so that will slow you down. Perhaps a 3-4 hour journey. :)

SUBJ: Schar

The healer is pleased with the fruits of her labor. She is somewhat taken aback by Crandor's response, but she will respect his wishes and remain distant from him.

After completing my tasks, I then follow the others in exploring the catacombs. I scan the laboratory with a grim look on my face. How many did suffer in this hellish place? Far too many for my comfort.

Upon learning that we will be spending the night, I prepare my bedroll and locate a good place to rest. I quickly find that I have company in the form of Perrel sitting next to me. We talk for sometime about this and that. ;>

Eventually, the weariness overcomes me and I drift off to sleep.

I dream peacefully, knowing that my patron is pleased with our success. I am reward by advancing a level.

When the morning comes, I pray to Azrella to be granted the following spells: CLW*3, Detect Magic, Protection from Evil, Augury, Aid, Barkskin, Slow Poison

I immediately cast one CLW on myself and offer one to Crandor.

When the Company returns to the locked door, I'll cast an Augury, begging Azrella to reveal what lies ahead for us when we do go through that door. I also offer my mace as a possible weapon.

"Perhaps this will help. It is enchanted."

Schar is an attractive young woman. She stands 5'6" and weights 122 lbs. Her hair is lustrous blonde, her eyes bright blue. She will admit to being 20 years old. ;)

SUBJ: Argent

I scan the lab eagerly looking for something of interest. I am puzzled when I notice Eliza always near me, but do not make an issue of it. (Although, I'm really concerned about being referred to as a he! ;])

'Hmmm... He probably has his goodies secreted away.'

I follow the searches with great enthusaism. A smile comes to my lips as I see the crystal ball on the table.

'Jon, Arathnasis, this might interest you. Are either of you familar with this? My mentor had one, but I never tried it myself.'

I'm suprised with Eliza steps in when I go to use the ball.

'Of course, you are correct. I'd best check with Omni first.'

What really catches my interest in the locked door.

'Wizard Locked, I'd wager. Unfortunately, I have nothing to counter it's magic. You are correct, Omni. Brute force will be needed to gain access to what lies beyond.'

Argent stands back and gives the warriors room to work. Her eyes dance with excitement in what my lie beyond the door.

I listen to Perrel when he speaks to me.

'There is no need to apologize. You were right and I acted foolishly. For the first time in my life I was helpless. My magic was of no use and I was scared. I appreciate you speaking to me. I sometimes fell alone, even in this large group.'

In the middle of the night I awake with a start. Locating my spellbook I quickly jot down Web into my book.

During the morning when memorizing my new spell lists, I discover that I can hold more in memory, including the Web spell!

Spell list: Read Magic, Detect Magic, Magic Missile, Web*2

'Well, boys, shall we see what is behind that door?'

Argent's appearance:

Curly brown hair

SUBJ: Arathnasis FROM: Wildchilde 01/19/91 S#: 429698

When it is decided that we stay here tonight Arathnasis begins memorizing his spells and is quite happy to learn he can remember more than before.

As for the door "Maybe we could burn the bugger down, no wait that may damage the contents. Smashing it seems to be the only alternative, but be prepared old mages like the Zombie Master don't like to have their things messed with and will often trap what holds them."

Spells to memorize: Detect magic, Magic Missile

SUBJ: Perrel... FROM: Count Kill 01/21/91 S#: 840779

Talking to Argent...

"Don't worry about it, we all get afraid. You just can't let the fear conquer you though. But you'll get better as we go on, I bet in five years, you'll be the bravest one in the party." I say with a warm smile, and a wink."

"And you don't have to feel alone, we're friends, all of us here. If you feel lonely again, just talk to someone. Me, Omni, Schar, Eliza, Arath, any of us would be more than happy to talk to you."

"Oh, and don't mind Eliza, I asked her to keep an eye on you mages while you went wandering, In case you got into trouble. Also, so she could be a voice of reason, I know how you mages get around libraries, studies, and such." I say with a chuckle. "Like a kid in a bakery."

Talking to Schar...

"Your patron told you that you had to be beautiful? No, I believe that comes very naturally to you."

"Too many women make themselves up to look beautiful, and yet you make them look very insignificant, even dirtied as you are from fighting and exploring." I say to Schar while we sit. I'll talk with her until she looks tired, then I'll bid her a good night, and move over by Omni.

"You want to watch that side, and I'll watch this side of the camp?" I ask Omni.

SUBJ: Description FROM: Count Kill 01/21/91 S#: 824172

Perrel is 5'7, thin (95 lbs.), and young (18), with brown hair, blue eyes, thin mustache, with a slight five o'clock shadow (We've been in this crypt most of the day.).

His dress is flamboyant, with a white silk shirt, black trousers, soft black boots, matching purple headband and sash, and a four-leaf clover in an amber like substance hanging from his neck.

But, his often noticed feature is his smile, which is always warm, and just about always in use. ;)

SUBJ: Drakkor FROM: Troll 3a 01/21/91 S#: 41424

I walk over to Omni "the green one is not at all friendly is he? I have seen his type before they are noble fighters but have little like for other races" I Then take 3rd watch and talk to whoever is with me.

SUBJ: Argent (R) FROM: Enchantres 01/22/91 S#: 419106

I return Perrel's smile as we speak. It's been awhile since I've done that.

'I can understand your concern when it comes to us mages locating new magic. I do not consider myself to be reckless. Excitable yes, but not reckless. I hope he had some nice goodies!' :)

I glance at the scowling figure in the corner and give him a wide berth.

SUBJ: Schar (R) FROM: Schar 01/22/91 S#: 5137

"Huh? I must be beautiful?"

I repeat those words, not quite understanding what Perrel is saying.

"No, I am healer. I heal and tend to wounded. That is what I must do. It is what I've dedicated my life to. You're just trying to embarrass me again? I think your sweet."

I lean over and give Perrel a kiss on the cheek before turning in for the night.

::wondering who is embarrassed now!::

SUBJ: Argent FROM: Enchantres 01/22/91 S#: 15154

'Hey, did anyone check ZM's body for magic items?! I think we completely forgot about that!'

I'll rush to examine the body, assuming that my 'tail' follows to protect me. Once there, I'll take anything that looks like it could be magical: ie, his staff, any rings and medallions, etc. I'll place them on the table with the crystal ball and cast Detect Magic on the whole lot in the morning.

SUBJ: Omni (R) FROM: Omni Tuens 01/22/91 S#: 41131

"That's fine Perrel....I'm indifferent as to where I watch, so long as I do watch. To those of you exploring magical items, I'll be forced to leave it to your own judgment as to whether or not you touch them...magic isn't my specialty, and I really don't know much of it....at all. What Perrel says is true, Argent. If you need to talk to any of us, we'll be happy to help...the same goes for the rest of you, also."

Then Omni turns to Drakkor, lowering his voice to a quieter level. "You have a point, Drakkor. He isn't the most social of warriors, but I have a feeling it's more than just a dour nature. I believe only time will tell us, though."

Omni will dutifully take his self-assigned watch, and retire quietly afterwards assuming nothing happens. Come morning he'll politely borrow Schar's mace, and if no other suggestions come forth, proceed to bash in the locked door, first making sure the others are well behind him.

"I think we can risk leaving this crypt sealed and unguarded until we reach Waypoint. By the time anyone realizes the Zombie Master is gone, the town should have had time to take more permanent action."

SUBJ: Arathnasis (R) FROM: Wildchilde 01/22/91 S#: 412218

Hearing argent speak of the Crystal ball:

"Ah you are correct indeed, I have heard tales of these things, they are useful in seeing what you shouldn't";)

Arathnasis will examine the crystal ball for any noticeable marks etc. When Argent makes reference to ZM body He will go with her to check it out.

SUBJ: Eliza FROM: Zynara 01/22/91 S#: 481629

(First out of character. Locally I am 1 of 3 women that play role-playing games. I am still trying to get use to having so many women in a party. If I call you a he instead of a she, I apologize. Now let us get back to the fun. :) )

When things start calming down and people start talking to one another, I settle back and relax. When Argent speaks up about ZM's body, I immediately start grabbing my things already knowing what her next move will be.

When that last bit of excitement comes to an end, I will move down the corridor and practice with the broadsword. I quickly realize that the sword finally feels comfortable in my hands. It doesn't feel as clumsy. As I practice with my weapons, I have this simple thought going through my head, 'Father says if you are going to learn a weapon, learn it to it's fullest. I have learned how to use this broadsword but I notice the other fighters carrying bows. Should I begin practicing with such a weapon or should I continue as my father taught me? Maybe Perrel can help me.'

With that last thought I go looking for Perrel. I will stand off to the side if Perrel is talking with someone else. When he is finished or notices me and motions for me to come over, I will approach. "Perrel? I have noticed some things about this group that my father didn't include in my training. I notice that most of the people have weapons that can be used beyond melee range. My father taught me to learn a weapon to it's fullest before learning another. Well, I am now comfortable with this broadsword but there are several points that I still must learn to master it. Should I continue as father taught me or would it be better to learn a weapon that can be used beyond melee?"

If he says to learn a missile weapon, "Which weapon would you suggest I learn? My father had a horse bow that looks quite different from anything I see amongst us but it is not here. Should I have one made for me when we return, or would you suggest another type of weapon?"

Sword of Doom # 27

The Company searches the Zombie Masters lair for treasure.

Argent searches his body for any personal magic. She takes the items and places then on the table with the crystal ball. Arathnasis gives the ball a close inspection, but doesn't see anything suspicious.

The night passes without incident.

In the morning Argent and Arathnasis move to where they left the ZM's gear. She casts Detect Magic. The Crystal Ball, his quarterstaff, bracers and a ring all detect as magical.

Omni, borrowing Schar's mace, hammers on the sealed door. Earlier she cast an Augury about what lurked behind the door. Azrella's response was 'A boon to you all.'

At last the door is shattered and you enter into the small room beyond. (15' x 15')

Three large chests are in the room, as well as several items hanging on pegs or leaning against the wall. These items include a suit of leather armor, a suit of chain mail, a longsword, a 2-handed sword, and a javelin. All three chests are locked, but not trapped. The thieves manage to gain access to the chests.

The first holds gold coins.

The second has several items: 5 potions, 2 rings, a wand, a cloak, and a pair of boots.

The last chest has 5 books filled with strange writing.

Using a detect magic, all the items in the 2nd and 3rd chest, plus those not in chests are detected as magic. The 5 books are spell books!

GM Notes:

I'll be on vacation next week, so the next post will be in 2 weeks. Use this post to divide up your items and for the mages to add to their spell books. I'll be on often enough to answer questions.

SUBJ: Crandor.. (R) FROM: GM Falcon 01/25/91 S#: 819597

Crandor skulks around, and then finally relaxes. He tends to avoid Schar for a while, mulling over her offer to talk.

When the treasure comes up, he will nod coolly. "Omni..", he speaks. "Except for some minor assistance with the warlock, I did little...however I would ask for the leather or the 'sword. (long) The reason being my last encounter with the Doomarans drained all of my enchanted weapons...a tragic loss. I would like the chance to start rebuilding."

No matter what Omni's response, he will help with cataloging, moving the chests to the surface, and so on...thinking.

SUBJ: Treasure!!! FROM: GrooToo 01/25/91 S#: 409028

Looking over the items presented by the search, I would like to get any of the potions or rings that I could. I also would like to go for the cloak or the boots or possibly the longsword. I then pray to my god for guidance. After this I add as an afterthought that if I could use the armor (chain or leather) I would gladly take it. I then set about to putting back to rest the dead that were animated or otherwise. Then I suggest we take this place down to the ground.

Selarin

(I do like Treasure!!)

SUBJ: Omni Tuens FROM: Omni Tuens 01/26/91 S#: 489828

Omni bashes in the door, then steps thru into the treasure room and quickly smiles. He hands Schar back her mace and thanks her, and waits until the size of the treasure has been assessed.

"Well....this changes things. Mages, you no doubt will want to stay a little longer and study, so I'll give you the time to do so. Perrel, once you and Schar have finished with your spells, I want you to ride ahead with Crandor and ask those in Waypoint what we should do with the crypt here, then return as soon as possible. Tristan, if you and any who choose to go with you would be so kind as to ride back to the Temple of Ehlonna, thank the priestess for her help, and ask if we may be of any further service, I would appreciate it. Meanwhile, the rest of us have the task of organizing this treasure...and still staying on our guard. For now, I'd like any free clerics or mages to use their spells and analyze the potions, rings, wand and crystal ball. See if you can find out anything more about them...what they do, make sure they aren't cursed, etc. After that is done, we'll fairly distribute the treasure among those now present. For myself, my main interest is in the two-handed blade."

---------------------------------------

Please post your equipment requests ASAP, and I'll divvy them out like last time...fairly and without prejudice (or so I like to think). If you wait too long, you might not get what you want!

SUBJ: Johnathan (R) FROM: Stretch611 01/26/91 S#: 508919

I am most pleased. And a bit concerned. One must be careful in what one asks for. Please refrain from asking for more than necessary. If you must ask for a weapon, some armor, a ring, a cloak, and more, than you are being a bit greedy.

To show my lack of greed, I have refused magic at the temple and I will leave the choice of magic item that I receive to the leader of the party. It is in his hands that I receive that which will make me a stronger member of the party. As for the gold I will willingly give up my share for future considerations. I only ask for enough to buy my supplies.

I will memorize Identifyx2 and try to Identify as many as possible.

SUBJ: Perrel... (R) FROM: GM Kill 01/27/91 S#: 31084

I startle a bit when Schar kisses me, and get flustered for a moment.

"Um...I...well....thanks." I say when I get over the shock of the sudden kiss. "Well, I better go stand watch with Omni. Have a good night." I say to Schar, before standing, and moving towards Omni, mentally kicking myself in the behind for getting flustered like that.

"I'll bet I looked real foolish." I think to MYSELF. "Sheesh, one kiss and look at me, all flustered and giddy like a schoolboy."

Just then Eliza approaches me and asks my opinion about her weapons, and I stand there thinking to MYSELF...

"I took off so suddenly, I bet she thinks that was rude. I can't believe I did that. But, I couldn't help it, she got me feeling so wonderful, and so confused at the same time."

When Eliza asks about which weapon, I look at her as if coming out of a daze.

"Huh? Weapon? Oh yeah...Well, I'd say learning a distance weapon would probably be very useful. Not just for fighting, but so you could hunt game easier if necessary."

"You would probably do best with the bow and arrow, but whichever weapon you feel most comfortable with is the best one to learn."

"But, the decision is yours. Whatever weapon you feel most like learning, be it distance or not, should be the weapon you learn. Never feel like you have to choose something for the sake of others, too often that leads to resentment." I say to Eliza with a warm smile.

"Oh, by the way, Thanks for keeping an eye on Argent and the other mages. Like I said, they could get themselves into real trouble with some of this stuff if they're not careful. The Zombie Master may have been an enemy, but he was a fairly powerful one. And some of his stuff might be beyond their ability."

"But from what I hear Argent tell me, you've done a good job of watching them, and you have my thanks for that."

SUBJ: Perrel Cont. FROM: GM Kill 01/27/91 S#: 38422

I see the large amount of treasure and whistle softly.

"No wonder he didn't want us around here." I say softly. "Oh well, this stuff will come in handy on our quest."

"I agree with Arathnasis, we shouldn't be passing this stuff out until we've tried to Identify as much of it as possible. Otherwise experimenting with these things could lead to our quick demise."

"Omni, okay, I'll ride to Waypoint, and inform the mayor, or whatever the ruling head of the village is, of this place and see what they want to do."

"Did you want us to bring them out here, or just inform them?"

"Also, as long as I'm going to Waypoint, does anyone want me to pick them up something there?"

Before I go up, I'll CLW anyone who hasn't been healed yet, and make sure I have two more prayed for before we leave.

Once up top, I'll make sure all the horses are all right, and fed and watered, before we leave.

"Crandor, would you take point?" I ask the surly ranger, wondering why I got stuck with him.

SUBJ: Omni (R) FROM: Omni Tuens 01/28/91 S#: 788026

"Good idea...we'll identify as much as possible before deciding who takes it. Perrel, your primary objective is just to inform the town. However, if they find it necessary to come back with you, that's fine. Just make sure we have notice in advance... For some reason the idea of town officials walking into a room to see me standing over a pile of gold doesn't appeal to me."

SUBJ: Perrel... FROM: GM Kill 01/28/91 S#: 35472

"Good thought, Omni. If they want to come back with us, I'll send Crandor back first, since he's a ranger the outdoors should pose little problems to him alone. Are there any supplies you want me to pick up while I'm in town?"

GM Notes:

Jonathon has added Armor, Magic Missile, Detect Magic, Choke, Cloak from Undead and Ghoul Touch to his spell book.

Let me point out that IDing items is not an easy matter. The mage must spend 8 hours preparing that which he wishes to ID. He must spend the next 24 hours recovering from the effects of the spell.

SUBJ: Schar

I smile widely as Perrel moves off in confusion. That had just the effect I hoped it would! :D

Upon seeing the great treasure before us, I say a prayer to Azrella, thanking her for her guidance.

"I agree with Jonathon, let us not be greedy but ask for that which we can gain the must to help the party. Omni, for myself the only item I would request [without knowledge of the potions or rings] would be the bracers. My patron grants me many wondrous powers, but there are drawbacks. My inability to wear armor of any type can be limiting in battle. The bracers would be the item that I would request."

Upon learning that I've been assigned to travel with Crandor and Perrel to Gateway, I go and gather my belongings.

This should be an interesting trip! :D

SUBJ: Arathnasis (R) FROM: Wildchilde 01/29/91 S#: 440016

"Hold one moment, in the excitement of all this treasure we have forgotten something very important, we lost companions in our battle in this god forsaken tunnel. And here we are trying to divide up treasure, I for one think we should take up as much as possible and all the Items that look to be magical and take them and our fallen companions back to the Temple where we can properly bury them and then Identify this stuff and tell Waypoint or whatever. Plus there is a certain priestess without whose blessing and gifts we would not have survived, she must be anxious to hear how we did and quite possibly could want her gifts back."

Arathnasis is quite noticeably disappointed in himself and the group for letting greed overtake their senses.

If no one agrees to go back he will do it himself taking the bodies of his companions one by one to the surface then transporting them to the temple for a honorable funeral.

SUBJ: Drakkor FROM: Troll 3a 01/29/91 S#: 401284

"I would also like that two-handed sword or armor whatever you decide omni. "With this I go and tell Jonathan that I will carry some of those books if he wishes they seem very heavy.

SUBJ: Omni (R) FROM: Omni Tuens 01/29/91 S#: 39880

"You have a valid point, Arathnasis. However, I'm reluctant to leave this place unguarded. That's why I asked Tristan to go ahead and thank her, since we could be here awhile. However, you're free to accompany him if you wish to. Also, I believe that the pyre is indeed the best idea for our fallen dead...they will be honored no matter what we decide on."

---------------------------------------

Your spell, your call, Arath. You wanna spend the time on Identifying all this or not?

SUBJ: Crandor... FROM: GM Falcon 01/30/91 S#: 23319

Crandor nods as Omni asks him to go back to Waypoint. However, when Perrel suggests he take point he stops.

"Sounds good to me, friend..", he remarks, "..but I'm new to these parts. I've never HEARD of Waypoint, so I don't know which way to go..unless there's a good trail nearby, and considering what that necro(mancer) did to this forest, I doubt it."

SUBJ: Next (R) FROM: GrooToo 01/30/91 S#: 39362

Looking sheepishly at Omni. "UM I didn't mean that I wanted all of the various items, just that a few might beef up my abilities just a bit. A decent melee weapon to go with my bow would be greatly appreciated or some better armor. The other potions, rings, and items would also be greatly appreciated. Although by no means do I need any of them. As of now I am wearing leather armor and using a small shield and mace when not using my bow. As to our friends a funeral pyre would be the best although if it is too large it might attract unwelcome visitors. It seems that FATE has done with them and we should remember that Fate controls us not the other way around. As to the large amount of money I need very little but we could use some major reprovisioning (peering at his empty wineskin). As to the rest I really thing we should get out of here. The mages could study and script spells in places a lot better than this. We should also return to the temple in the woods to see if anything else needs to be done. After discussing this with Aranthesis(if he's not to busy) and Omni(ditto).

I'll walk over to Schar and ask which god she serves but noticing her confusion" Don't worry about it he is a big flirter if I'm any judge." Then I would like to talk about religion or what ever she wants.

SUBJ: Argent FROM: Enchantres 01/31/91 S#: 59375

'The acquisition new spells is more then enough reward for me Omni.'

After locating the spell books, I begin to poor through then with the other mages. When time permits I will attempt to learn Erase, Chill Touch, Hold Portal, Tenser's Floating Disk, Alterself, Darkness 15' Radius, Knock, Levitate, Spectral Hand and Wizard Lock.

As I read the books, I notice the entry for the Feign Death spell. With an worried expression, I got to where we left the Zombie Master's body.

'I wonder...'

If it is still there, then I forget any thoughts that his death was a trick. If it should be gone, I will alert the others and then attempt to locate him on the crystal ball.

--Hoping that his death wasn't a nasty GM trick!--

Spectrum's Comments: Now honestly, would I do something like that?

SUBJ: Arathnasis (R) FROM: Wildchilde 02/01/91 S#: 410563

"I am willing to spend time trying to Identify these items, but not here in these tunnels. If something happens I don't want to be to weak to fight and to easy to kill. I will suggest that I go back to the temple and have members of the party bring the things to me. I think that between all of us we could carry all this stuff.

Any of you other mage types wanna help me with this ID stuff????? please :)

SUBJ: Perrel... (R) FROM: Count Kill 02/01/91 S#: 426101

"Ah...." I say when Crandor reminds me that he has never been here before, and wouldn't have the foggiest idea where Waypoint is. "Well then, I guess we travel together."

As we ride along, I think to MYSELF..."I'll get Omni for this..."

"A wonderful day, made even more wonderful by the company." I say to Schar with a smile.

"I wonder how the folks of Waypoint will react to the news we bring."

"Of course, it was nice of you to help us." I say to Crandor as we ride. "We'll miss you when we move on. Ah well, mayhaps we will meet again." I say warmly, hiding my true feelings about leaving him behind.

SUBJ: Crandor... FROM: GM Falcon 02/01/91 S#: 518774

"Perhaps..", the ranger smiles warmly at Perrel. The latter's words don't fool Crandor, and he decides then and there that this group bears investigating, if only for the sake of irritating this blowhard.

He falls back slightly to talk to Schar. He keeps other, equally unpleasant feelings hidden as he speaks: "So, milady...to turn a phrase, what is a nice girl like you doing in a place like this?"

He scans the forest closely as he begins to talk, hand near his weapon. More often than not, though, his eyes stray to Perrel, smoldering.

SUBJ: Omni Tuens (R) FROM: Omni Tuens 02/01/91 S#: 61043

Omni smiles as it finally becomes apparent that something constructive is being done; Perrel, Schar and Crandor are leaving for their task. He thinks ironically that getting stuck with Crandor serves Perrel right for going running off and getting blasted while they were in the catacombs. He then directs his attention to Arathnasis.

"I understand your fears, and admit they are justified....and I doubt anything could be accomplished while in this place. Therefore, you can go on to the Temple. Take everyone with you except Berek, Drakkor, and Eliza; they'll stay here with me and help guard this tomb until the others get back. This way, maybe at least some of us will be able to get something done."

Omni turns to those he singled out to stay behind: "I'm sorry if any of you feel uneasy here- I know I do. But we have to keep this place guarded, and the spellcasters are needed at the temple right now. Hopefully, we'll be able to join them shortly."

Omni then rests easier knowing that Arathnasis is moving their newly acquired 'goods' to the safety of the temple, and is both thanking the priestess and investigating the equipment.

SUBJ: Johnathan FROM: Stretch611 02/01/91 S#: 822282

To any who would help me carry books I feel great honor. I would love the offer at any other time. But I can only take that which I can carry. Since we are on a mission any other books would only burden fellow party members and for what... my own selfish needs. I will be very happy to take just that which I can carry.

I do not feel at all uneasy here. I will study while those most capable carry the items to the temple. I will tag along on the last trip there. With one longing look at the books I will be leaving behind.

At the mention of Feign Death I am only a step or two behind as we run to check the body. If still there I will be sure that if he revives then he will be unable to breath. I will remove several inches of his windpipe and remove half of each foot. At the look of horror on the others faces I explain that should he return as undead he will be impeded and unbalanced by the feet. Should he revive in life he will be unable to breath and will die rather quickly.

If gone I will raise the alarm along with everyone there checking the body.

Spectrum's Comments: Poor Schar! What did she do to get stuck with Perrel and Crandor? Stay tuned for more fun with this threesome!
