The Frontier # 48

Spectrum's Comments: And now the conclusion of the battle against Woodstalker, a green dragon...

The Frontier #48

The Seekers continue to face the threat of Woodstalker, a great green dragon. 'Stalker has taken to the air and is rapidly returning.

Many of the Seekers take cover. Finrod moves into an open area and begins to cast a fake spell. Stephanie runs to her mount to retrieve a longbow. Cereld tends to Validar's wounds while Eagle aids Blod.

Suddenly, Woodstalker soars over the town! Arrows are fired by Arathron and Arocken. Most of the shafts are wide, but those that do hit merely bounce off the thick-hided beast.

A hysterical Bernice flings stone after stone with her sling, but she has yet to hit the dragon.

Spotting movement below, Woodstalker opens it's maw again and breathes. Valgrin is suddenly engulfed in a cloud poisonous gas. When it clears he has fallen to the ground and is unmoving.

Woodstalker soars out of the town again.

Back inside the temple, Demonslayer hears the combat and rushes to help. Zynara frees Claudius from the cell. As he exits, another man appears from the rear of the cell. He says his name is Renard. Together they reclaim their equipment.

Woodstalker glides over the town once more. The bow brigade fires again, this time joined by Stephanie. However, the results remain the same.

Seeing Finrod in the open, 'Stalker dives.

'Ah, an elf... Good eatin'!'

Finrod continues to cast his fake spell as the dragon flies towards him. At the last instant he dives for cover and is raked by a claw. Those close enough attempt to attack as the beast passes, but miss. Fin lays on the ground, bleeding.

Gaining altitude again, Woodstalker soars out of the forest.

Back at the temple, Zynara, Claudius and Renard come outside. Not more then twenty feet away stands Demonslayer. But only for a moment.

Before their surprised eyes, the dragon streaks by, snagging Demonslayer with a clawed hand. Woodstalker comes to a stop, hovering some 70' overhead. It tosses Demonslayer into its mouth. A loud crunching sound follows.

More missiles assault the dragon. One shaft powered by Stephanie manages to hurt the beast. Several others follow.

Woodstalker attempts to gain altitude, but is too weak. The wounds of the battle taking their toll. In it's death throes, the dragon falls back into the city. Half of the grove is crushed under its great mass. Several buildings collapse, including a portion of the slaves' quarters.

Those orcs still in sight run for their lives. They have no wish to fight dragonslayers...

GM Notes:

The Seekers have scored a tremendous victory this day. But the price has been high. Six members have perished. I'll have the updated xp's posted next week. Many have gained levels.

A few words about the new people. Claudius and Renard were both recently captured by the orcs. They just met in the cell while be interrogated by the Hextorites. The others were part of a large group captured much earlier. Most of them were killed by the priests. Only Jason, the blond man, Siltin, the other man and Andara, the woman, survived the ordeal.

Spectrum's Comments: The battle also helped clear out some of the dead wood in the game. Believe it or not Kam's player was back with Renard. At least he was a ranger this time!

SUBJ: Renard FROM: Kid Texas 07/12/90 S#: 474497

I'm Baaaaaaack :D

::eyes steel over at the sight of this defiler of our Woodlands::

::an enraged look crosses my face::

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

::Renard runs to the fallen adventurers, unable to help them.::

::spotting the dying dragon he becomes blind with rage:: ::he runs to the dead demon stabbing it again and again with his sword:: ::he then collapses because he remembers that he hasn't eaten for a couple of weeks::

::desperately, he pulls some nuts ad dried berries slowly out of his pack and starts to munch on them while drinking the spring water in one of his wineskins::

What happened? I heard explosions, and that awful wyrm's voice? I wanted to warn you, but the jail... That poor, noble, valiant, heroic Paladin... (:D)

Ok, Renard will use his herbalism proficiency to try and find natural weak healing balms and salves, and apply them to the fallen adventurers. After that, he will go through the orc encampment, and try to fid 2 empty wineskins, if he does, he fills 1 with the dragons blood, and the other with a portion of the beast's brain.

Just angry at the defilers of nature,

Renard

SUBJ: Arocken (R) FROM: Wildchilde 07/13/90 S#: 480998

I will bind up my wounds, then will begin to explore the area around from which the dragon came, looking for a possible cave or encampment of some sort. (in other words its lair)

SUBJ: FINROD (R) FROM: SGT STONEY 07/13/90 S#: 54907

*OK, here he comes now... steady... Gotta make this look good... Just a little closer, and the others should be able to hit him... NOW! Dive and roll for cover!

Owwwww! Pain... In my back... must have got me good... So THIS is death..

Could have gone a few more years without feeling THIS... Fading...Darkness...

Steph!!! [[[***]]]

SUBJ: Cereld FROM: Lanceson 07/13/90 S#: 433615

Seeing the dragon finally fall, Cereld is greatly relieved. This is short lived, as he sees both Finrod go down and part of the quarters of the slaves collapse. Rushing to get to Finrod in time, Cereld shouts to his fellow adventurers along the way. "Seekers this is not over yet. Go to the slaves' quarters and get them out while I stay here and guard our fallen friends. Send for me if you need my healing abilities."

Cereld will then cast another of his clw spells on Finrod, and then try and get all of the wounded gathered together. He will save his last healing spell until he sees if any of the FORMER slaves need it. If not then he will use it on Finrod.

SUBJ: Claudius... (R) FROM: GM Falcon 07/14/90 S#: 492389

The mage stumbles out of his cell, and seizes his pack. He, too, grabs something to eat as he stalks out, just in time to see the dragon fall.

The slow grin playing across his face says it all...

As his strength comes back, he looks around, suddenly animated. "So, who should I be thanking? The Seekers? Good name for a group. So how came you to this place? Are you after these orcs too?" His eyes glint brightly with the last statement.

SUBJ: Proper welcome (R) FROM: Zynara 07/14/90 S#: 9996

Seeing the dragon fall, I am very happy, seeing where it falls, puts a shock through my system. I quickly recover and run for the slave's quarters.

If I find anyone, I will help them as best as I can and call for one of the clerics to either give medical help or last rights.

After the clean up with the slave's quarters, I will inform Cereld of the 3 remaining in the temple. He will probably need to cure some of the woman's insanity before she will be able to do much.

Later when things have settled down, I will go to the 2 that were in the cell and give each of them a big hug and kiss. I will then go and get Sheba and introduce her to the new people so they don't kill her by accident. I will also cut some of the fresh meat from the dragon and give it to Sheba so she doesn't get any ideas about the smaller members of the party. "Well Sheba dear, it should be several days before you are hungry anymore. Last night rabbit, today dragon. These people are gonna get you fat at this rate. Or you are gonna grow so big, you will have to start walking on your own because no one will be able to carry you."

To the group, "I am sorry about not helping with the dragon, but I had no spells that would help you and I learned to fight with my fists, not a weapon that could be thrown. By chance would some of the mages in the group be willing to teach me some spells that would be more helpful in a fight? I was taught and enjoy mainly conjuration and summoning spells. I will be willing to try and learn what I can though from any teachers."

SUBJ: Forgot FROM: Zynara 07/14/90 S#: 44808

Here are the spells currently in my spell book:

Read Magic, Armor, Mount, Find Familiar, Chill Touch

I usually have Mount and Chill Touch memorized. If my Armor spell is affected, I will learn that instead of Mount so I can reinforce the Armor spell I have on. If you are willing to teach me at least one spell, you can get any spells you want from my puny spell book.

SUBJ: VALIDAR FROM: Panther 29 07/14/90 S#: 832738

Having done about all that he still could, Validar watches Stephanie run of to retrieve her bow, until she is out of sight. Then taking a moment to steady himself, will return to watching the battle as it continues.

The position that the warrior finds himself in is maddening. He watches almost helplessly, as more of the Seekers continue to fall to the emerald wyrm. As each of his comrades' fall, his grip on his sword tightens in frustration.

"One more blow and the damn wyrm would be dead. Dead! And now there is nothing else I can do."

Validar's moroseness is lifted however as he sees Stephanie's shaft plunges deep into the creature's underbelly. He watches with grim satisfaction as the beast crashes headlong into the ground. In the rush of triumph that follows, the warrior raises his sword into the air. He watches the fallen creature for some long moments, not disbelieving of its death but rather glorying in the defeat of so powerful and terrible a foe.

"The Seekers have passed their baptism by fire. We are truly a force to be reckoned with now."

Once the adrenalin of the battle fades, what little strength that remains now begins to drain from the armored warrior as well. He will lie back on the ground for some time, recuperating and allowing the previous events to fully sink in.

After a few short moments, Validar will do his best to regain his feet, leaning heavily on his sword. He will then proceed shakily to the wyrm's killer and give her as large a hug as he can in his condition.

"Congratulations, my friend. Your aim was true. Finrod had a fine pupil. This victory also does the memory of our comrade TigerCat much honor. I find it fitting that his bow was the one to slay the beast. And even more honor and glory to you, Stephanie the dragonslayer."

Validar will offer his congratulations to each of the surviving members of our illustrious band. He will also greet those that were captured by the orcs and their evil leaders, the Hextorites.

All of this taxes the remaining strength of the warrior and he excuses himself soon after to take some time to recover from the foul dragonbreath that overcame him.

GM Notes: Odds and ends

Rushing to the slaves' quarters, those who are able quickly help those trapped in the rubble. Fortunately, only 4 of the slaves perished in the building collapse.

The others are as well as can be expected under the circumstances.

The slaves number 58. Most of them are human, 46 in fact, 39 of them male. The rest are half-elf or elf in race. All male.

They welcome the Seekers as great liberators, freeing them from the orc's toil.

Arocken makes his way into the grove. In the rear portion of the grove, he finds a large opening in the ground. Looking down he sees the opening slope down into a large cavern.

He makes his way down to the cave and finds no signs of life.

Arocken comes to a stop as he reaches the dragons horde. Before him lies a huge pile of gold that the creature used as a bed. Some gems and jewelry are mixed in too.

Eventually, Arocken looks around the rest of the cave. Way in the back he locates an unusual sight.

Worked stone steps lead deeper into the ground. The steps end at a large landing. Before him now is a large, stone door. The door is 8' wide and 12' high. A large pull ring is on each door.

Back inside the temple, Jason meets with those Seekers around. He sees Andara and rushes to the nearest cleric.

'You must help her. Please! Those-- *@#! priests did something to her. They made some kind of liquid out off our comrades' blood... Forced her to drink it... You must help her!'

GM Notes:

Fin is healed and up to 1 hp. Also, Renard, what is the purpose of retrieving the dragon's blood and brain. Getting the blood will take a little work, while the beasts brain would be a major task. Not only would you have to get past the tough hide, and then you would have to deal with its skull next.

SUBJ: Stephanie

Urged on by Validar, Steph breaks into a sprint to her horse, Thunder. Once there she throws unnecessary items aside to get to her longbow. Her small quiver falls to the ground, its contents scattered.

Steph gives a small scream of frustration and grabs a handful of the shafts. Out on the battlefield, I see Fin playing chicken with the dragon.

'What is that maniac doing?! He'll get himself killed!'

I fire my arrows, but miss.

'Blast it!'

Then I see Fin go down under a bloody claw. A scream of anguish comes out, followed by a stream of very un-lady like language.

Then comes the waiting for the dragon to return. I consider running to see if Fin is still alive or not. But then I see Cereld rush to his aid and hold my position.

Suddenly the dragon passes uncomfortable close by. It grabs and eats Demonslayer!

'Murderous creature! You've slain your last Seeker!'

Firing more arrows, I finally succeed in striking a vital area. I fire as many more as possible in an effort to make sure that it doesn't get away. At last the dragon falls. I watch in awed silence. I rest for a few moments before proceeding on.

I greet the newcomers as they exit the temple.

'Well met, Claudius, Renard. I am Stephanie, a warrior by trade.'

She then watches Renard buzz around the dragon with a curious eye, wondering what he is doing.

'So, you are a mage Claudius? Araduin and Finrod are our most power mages. They should be able to help in, Zynara. The Seekers generally share spells. We came to these ruins almost by accident. We were rushing back to Gateway. We suspect that an army of goblins are attacking. Perhaps even as we speak.'

Remembering the fallen Finrod, I excuse myself and rush back to the battlefield. En route, I meet with Validar. I am genuinely surprised and touched by his words and actions. I return his hug, squeezing him tight, but not trying to hurt him.

'High praise indeed, coming from a warrior such as yourself. But I fear that I only delivered the killing blow. Dar and yourself must take the credit for weakening the dragon. Without that, my shaft would have meant little. But you are wounded still. You should not be up and walking about.'

Saying that Steph picks Validar up and carries him to safety, in spite of his protests. "Put me down, woman!" I'll carry him inside the temple and look for a place so that he can rest. On a bed preferably.

Returning to the battlefield, I will meet with Dar and Blod.

'Well fought fellow Seekers! I am most pleased that you survived the battle!'

I will give them both a big hug and carry them to the safety of the temple.

'Cereld, Eagle, you have my gratitude for saving the lives of these noble warriors.'

Saving Finrod for last, I'll gently carry him to the temple.

'You're lucky to be alive, my friend. That was a foolish move on your part. It would be a shame not to have you around.'

I give him a gentle kiss on the forehead and carry him to safety.

Upon being alerted to the slaves' plight, I'll go help Cereld with them. I also inform him of the condition of the woman in the temple.

'What's that you say, Arocken? Treasure?!? This I got to see!' ;)

Spectrum's Comments: That was one of the things I liked about Stephanie. She could just about get away with murder at times. Validar was NOT happy with her. :D

SUBJ: Bernice FROM: Modesty1 07/16/90 S#: 2117

The little thief continues to fire bullets at the dragon for a few minutes after it falls to the earth in its death throes. Howling in rage and fear, she doesn't realize that it's dead. She presents quite a sight. (Gosh, I hope none of these wildly shot bullets hit her friends!) ;)

When it finally dawns on her that the dragon is DEAD, she stands quite still surveying the scene for several minutes. Her sling drops from her hand. Then, she sits down in the middle of the street (?) and cries. If anyone approaches, they can hear her moaning

about a) how scary it all was,

b) everyone who died

c) poor Validar (and others)

d) her mixed emotions about this adventuring life

e) her longing for home and on and on.

She inconsolable - don't even try!

After this goes on for far too long, the sobs die down, she wipes her eyes, picks up the sling, and stands up. She goes to Validar and pats him on the head (assuming he's sitting). "My poor sick warrior! You were so brave! Can I get you anything?" She'll go to all the wounded (does that leave anyone out?) with similar comments, and hero-worship in her eyes, spending more time with Validar, Steph, Fin, and Araduin.

Her greeting of the new party members is a little restrained (for Bernice). She approaches both with outstretched hand. "Welcome, I'm Bernice. Yep, I'm with these guys! Pretty tough, huh? And... Do you know of any food around here?" You see a, well, not too attractive halfling before you. She smiles and you notice two rows of crooked teeth. She's dressed in a rather worn cloak that's closed with a gaudy brooch. "Family heirloom" If you ask.

Finally she'll approach the party leaders "Think these priests slept on real beds? Be kind of nice to sleep in a REAL bed for a couple of nights, huh?

Through all of this you'll notice Bernie has developed a nervous tic in one eye, and though she's putting up a good front, she's shaken.

A changed halfling, (well, inside anyways)

Bernie

SUBJ: Validar FROM: Panther 29 07/17/90 S#: 107552

Upon being hoisted off the ground by his overzealous companion, Validar will begin to complain. Though at first his grumbling are quiet, so as not to draw attention to this embarrassment.

Seeing that his words seem to be falling on deaf ears, Validar will increase his voicings.

"Now see here, my friend, I am not some delicate wallflower to be carted about! I am a warrior and prefer to be treated as such. Your desire to help me is appreciated, but you go TOO FAR! At the very least, you are welcome to assist me anywhere you please, but set me down!"

As Validar is not currently able to physically end this embarrassing situation, he will fume the rest of the trip. Once Stephanie sets him down to rest, Validar will give her a long look.

"You realize of course that you just earned yourself the first rotten job that comes up for this group. Please don't EVER do that again. And since you carted me all the way up here, do you think you could at least bring along my helm and shield?"

After Steph has left the room, Validar will shake his head for a few moments trying to figure out how he let this happen.

However there are more pressing concerns right now. And it appears that Validar will have some to contemplate these concerns. There are a few things that need to be fit in to the overall picture. There may be more to this attack on Gateway than we originally thought.

To Bernice:

"I am fine, friend Bernice. Do not worry yourself overly. What a battle, eh?"

SUBJ: FINROD FROM: SGT STONEY 07/17/90 S#: 497270

Opening his eyes from what he thought was death to see the welcome countenance of Cereld, Finrod gives a weak smile. "Well, friend Cereld, since I see you, I assume we won? Excellent... Is anybody looking for its lair?" A dim gleam appears in his eye at the thought of treasure.

Later, when Steph comes to carry him off to convalesce with the other invalids, Finrod tries hard to look as put out by the attention as Val was, but it's a little hard to look upset and stern, when you are surreptitiously enjoying the closeness and the gesture of caring. "So, they tell me it was your arrow that got the old green bat. I knew you were destined to excel with the bow; you were such an apt pupil. Good work."

When Stephanie kisses him, a deep red glow of embarrassment and pleasure spreads across his pale face. "Aww, heck, Steph, you know I'd never leave you to fend off the world alone... I knew all along I'd live through it!" (is anyone buying this) "My only regret is that Demonslayer fell before the Dragon decided to fall for my ruse. But anyway, you know I'd never willing deprive you of my company."

Observers might well wonder what that look of special fondness in the back of his eyes is when he gazes at Steph. Finrod is not USUALLY prone to such emotive gestures.

After a while, the wounds and the gas-seared lungs take their toll on the doughty elven multiclass, and his eyes droop, then close in sleep. His dreams are troubled by visions of not reaching Gateway in time, and finding it smoking and looted. He finds little rest in such slumber.

--Finrod
--Driven Seeker

SUBJ: Stephanie

Stephanie merely grins at Validar's complaints.

'Don't be such a sour-puss. You enjoyed it as much as I did. Let loose with your big, tough warrior image once and awhile. Fetch your helmet and shield? Yes, master. Right away, master'

Steph leaves the room with a wide grin on her face.

At least Fin takes his medicine a bit easier and doesn't squirm like a little demon.

'Why, Finrod, I do believe that you are blushing.' Another wide grin follows.

While completing her tasks, Steph notices Bernice tagging along.

'I am pleased to see that you are uninjured Bernice! Of course you're more then welcomed to help. I'd enjoy the company!'

Eventually, we make our way down to the dragons den. I pale at the sight of the huge pile of gold. I had never seen this much money ever before.

'My friends, we have riches beyond my wildest dreams...'

Steph pauses for a moment, thinking back to the years of struggling on the farm. Somehow it seems so long ago. A tear comes from her eye, but she quickly wipes it away before anyone notices. Steph then joins Bernice in going through the horde, looking for items of jewelry in particular.

GM Notes:

Stairs are found leading to the second floor of the temple. Six bedrooms are found up there. Nothing fancy compared to the last temple. The priests were 'roughing it', but what is there is much better then the ground!

Sorting through the dragon's horde, Stephanie notices that the only coins present are gold. There are many thousands of these.

In addition to the gold, the following items are in the horde:

10 Gems
1 Gold Orb
1 Bejeweled Coronet
1 Gold Seal
1 Gold Bracelet
1 Bejeweled Silver Necklace
1 Bejeweled Silver Box
1 Silver & Gold Box
1 Silver & Gold Earrings
1 Silver Ring
1 Gold Chain
1 Gold Ring
2 Scroll Cases
1 Rod
1 Battleaxe

SUBJ: Cereld FROM: Lanceson 07/17/90 S#: 407100

"Yes Fin we won, but not without paying a price. Don't worry now about the dragon's lair. If there is one, we will have more than enough time to find it while you heal."

Seeing Validar get up and go walking around with his wounds, Cereld is about to start screaming at the noble warrior about how he is not going to heal him if he opens those wounds again, but then when he sees the way Steph handles the situation, it is all that Cereld can do to run out of earshot before he starts rolling on the ground in laughter!! After several minutes of joyful bliss (much needed after the deaths of some good friends) Cereld will wipe the tears from his eyes and head back for the temple. Seeing Steph returning with Finrod this time, Cereld will greet her at the temple door and talk loud enough for all, particularly Validar to hear him. "Good job Steph, male warriors sometimes don't know when they should give up the fight for a while and let their body heal for a change. I am putting you in charge of making sure that Validar, Finrod and Dar stay in bed until they are better. Tie them up if you have to, but keep them there." At this Cereld gives Steph a wink and a wide grin. He then heads off to see how everything else is going on in the fort.

"Ok Seekers, since it looks like we are going to be here for a bit, I guess the first thing to do is see what the former residents left us for supplies. Let's look in the other buildings to see if there is anything useful in them. Anyone who is wounded or in need of medical attention, bring them to the former temple. Where is that woman who the priests drugged? Does anyone know what they gave her and what the antidote is?"

During the next few days, Cereld will use his abilities to heal all the wounded in the fort (Validar too if he will let him).

When the hoard is discovered, he will ask Bernice to take some of the former slaves and bring the treasure up into the daylight, being careful of any jewelry and other things that may be magical. He will then ask the magic users of the party to take a look at this stuff and let him know what they find out about it. One more thing, "Under no circumstances is anyone to touch that door until the whole party is well again."

SUBJ: VALIDAR (R) FROM: Panther 29 07/17/90 S#: 119703

Validar will not say much more about the recent events, hoping that by not talking about them, they will quickly pass from memory. When Cereld mentions the healing, Validar will grudgingly comply.

"If the situation were different, I would decline your offer, my friend, but time is still our greatest enemy. We should be out of here as quickly as we can. I trust you have already started the process of securing this place."

"In actuality I do not really have many wounds to reopen. The dragon only bit me once. I fear that I succumbed mostly to the foul wyrm's breath weapon."

"I hope this does not sound selfish, but I would appreciate it if you might use that healing on my person as quickly as possible. Not that the company is undesirable."

"However, it would be easier on myself, as well as those you've entrusted to care for us."

If everyone is agreeable on this, I will try to be a bit more of an easier patient.

"One thing that has me slightly concerned is this drugged woman we found in the cells below. I am hoping that the concoction that they were making and used on her is merely a new experiment and not something that they plan to put into use."

"There is some tactical folly in attacking a fortification like Gateway with mere goblinoids or even Hextorites. The users of magicks alone in that place would be more than a match for such an army, even if it attacked unknowingly. The more I think on it, the more I find that the horde may only be a form of feint. Our presence may be more vital than any of us originally had thought."

Having given everyone something to think about, Validar will take some time to actually rest and sleep (horrors!). That should give everyone a suitable rest from his complaining. ;)

SUBJ: FINROD FROM: SGT STONEY 07/17/90 S#: 504709

"Cereld, you'll get no argument from me on your orders to rest and recuperate, but I must protest your insistence that we stay until all are at full health. That would be delaying far too long. We should, instead, wait only until all are well enough to travel, then set out once more. While we wait, though, I will find effective, non-strenuous work for myself."

Fin's spells during the rest period will emphasize IDENTIFY and DETECT MAGIC. Between these and a little careful examination and experimentation on the items found, he should be able to get a pretty good Idea of what their functions are, so that Cereld can distribute them judiciously.

Though he is a good patient, and rests frequently, his sleep remains troubled by visions of Gateway ravaged; it's inhabitants joining the all to large number of dead companions.

SUBJ: Arocken FROM: Wildchilde 07/18/90 S#: 73917

I will begin to transport the Items from the Dragons lair to our new quarters starting first with the gems and jewelry or any item that may have magical possibilities (i.e. Battleaxe). I will then ask if at the most available juncture if one of the clerics would be able to call upon his/her deity to help in the healing process as my body has seen better.

SUBJ: Renard (R) FROM: Kid Texas 07/18/90 S#: 833918

As for the dragon's brain....(long story to follow)

While I was growing up, my father was a messenger for an alchemist named Kilthrip. He was an elf, and I learned much from him, including my ability with plants. He was a very nice man, and was more like my father than my real father. He said that his most prized possession was a piece from a blue dragon's brain. He said that with it, he could make a potion that would allow men the power over dragons... but one day, he asked my father to run a letter to a druid, my father was never seen again, and the townspeople blamed the druid. They ravaged the beautiful forest (I didn't care about my father because of his attitude towards

Kilthrip) and I vowed to protect the sylvan lands after that. That's why I want a portion of the dragon's brain, but a swatch of his scaly hide will do ;)

(long story, huh?)

Anyway, I cast my eye on the ring, and I do wish to have it, along with the golden orb, and 200 gold pieces.

I will try to use my Herbalism proficiency to identify and prepare ANY sort of plant that will act as a healing balm, or a stimulant to wake the slumbering woman.

Renard, the Sylvan Warrior

P.S. instead of one ring and the orb, I wish to have the gold ring and the silver ring.

SUBJ: Claudius... FROM: GM Falcon 07/18/90 S#: 817143

Claudius looks slightly confused, as he notes the strangers and their even stranger actions. Finally, he wanders over to the treasure trove, and also gapes at the sight. He simply stands there in awe for a long time, never having seen so much in his life. He then returns to the main party.

When he hears of (someone's.. sorry) offer to trade spells, he eagerly opens his book to her. He looks through her book in turn, and slowly clenches his teeth in frustration, finding nothing he can use.

He then looks up, and speaks: "I don't suppose anyone here has a *Magic Missile* spell they'd be willing to trade? Considering my specialty, I think that'd be most devastating.."

He turns to (whoever..bloody) and speaks: "You may copy whatever you wish...the deal is simple. At a future time, if you acquire a spell I'd like, I can copy it in turn. One for one.. agreed?"

Spellbook:

SUBJ: Bernice, again FROM: Modesty1 07/18/90 S#: 499254

Bernice gladly assists Step in ministering to the wounded. She puts on a bright, cheery face for her 'patients' but walks heavily when no one is looking. When Validar barks at her Bernice jumps back looking both hurt and scared, and scurries away. She also accepts Cereld's appointment to bring the treasure out. Bernie tries to look serious, but Cereld notices the tic is gone (for now) and her eyes shine brightly. 'Right away, my leader'. She turns to a small group of ex-slaves. 'OK. Listen up. Cereld has appointed ME, and I appoint YOU to carry the Seekers treasure from the lair. Follow me. And step lively. NO...pick up some sacks. Now, follow me. No. This way.' and they're off. Bernice is thoroughly enjoying this.

If Arocken makes any move to bring the treasure out he runs into 90 pounds of outraged halfling. 'I BELIEVE it was ME Cereld told to bring the dragon's horde out!' And she'll glare until he backs off.

At the lair, Bernie tells the ex-slaves to pick up the gold; she'll handle the big stuff. And she lovingly places the items on the list in her sack.

SUBJ: VALIDAR (yet again...) (R) FROM: Panther 29 07/18/90 S#: 851098

Before Cereld leaves, Validar speaks up one last time.

"Judging from this recent battle, it seems that our dual leadership is working quite well. Our plan was sound, well thought out and quite effective, no? I look forward to continuing to share such duties with you, my friend." Validar will extend his hand to the cleric.

When Bernice jumps at his words, Validar appears genuinely surprised. He looks to the others wondering what it was he said that made her react so.

"It appears that the stress of this battle has gotten to all of us. It is unfortunate that we will not have long to rest before an even more difficult hurdle will be reached."

"One more thing, friend Cereld. It is my opinion that the dividing up of any monetary gains by put off until later. We already have quite a large collection of community funds and until Gateway is settled, money is highly irrelevant. Any magical items may be helpful to put into use. In any case, this is my opinion. I'm sure that you have things under control."

"Right you are friend Bernice, I am awaiting your orders, as you are in command." ::Bowing Deeply::
