Send new skills learned, if any, ASAP.

New spell lists ASAP!

As been mentioned before, the Seekers have an open spell book policy. Here is a list of spells available. I also included the 2nd Level spells so Zynara can make her selections. Zynara also figured out how to cast Melf's Acid Arrow when realizing that she could cast 2nd level spells.

1st level spells available:

Affect Normal Fires, Alarm, Armor, Burning Hands, Change Self, Charm Person, Color Spray, Comprehend Languages, Detect Magic, Enlarge, Friends, Gaze Reflection, Hold Portal, Identify, Light, Magic Missile, Mending, Mount, Phantasmal Force, Read Magic, Tenser's Floating Disk, Sleep, Unseen Servant

New spells to this list would be: Find Familiar, Chill Touch and Protection from Evil from Zynara's and Claudius's books.

2nd level spells available:

Bind, Continual Light, Darkness 15' Radius, Detect Evil, Detect Invisibility, ESP, Flaming Sphere, Fool's Gold, Leomund's Trap, Web, Wizard Lock

In addition, Zynara knows Melf's Acid Arrow.

Searching the rest of the ruins turns up the following. The well-constructed buildings hold some interesting items.

One building was use for food storage. Inside are grains and some vegetables.

Another is an armory. Between the armory and other weapons dropped by the orcs, a huge amount of weaponry is available. The following is a list of items. They are numerous in number, being more then the party could use. At the very least, assume that there are a minimum of 10 each, arrows and bolts not included.

Longswords, Shortswords, Spears, Handaxes, Polearms, Crossbows, Bolts, Battleaxes, Maces, Sheath Arrows, Shortbows.

Another building holds tuns of water and cheap wine.

According to the slaves, another building held suits of studded leather armor and shields. Unfortunately, the dragon landed on top of it!

In a stable behind the temple you find 9 riding horses and 6 mules. An adjacent building holds riding gear and food.

In spite of the parties efforts the woman remains 'out of it'. As Jason said, the priests concocted some potion and gave it to her. It seems to have made her mentally impaired; i.e. an idiot. She occasionally babbles incoherently. When asked, Jason will say that she is a Priestess of Azrella, Goddess of Healing and Fertility.

What notes you can find near the cauldron seem to support this idea. Most of what is left of the potion lies on the temple floor. A small sample remains in the bottom of the cauldron.

The task of hauling the dragon's hoard to the surface has been completed. In addition, a few things were found on the former priests themselves. Below is a list of items gathered, in addition to the list of jewelry and gems from the last post. Some of the items have been ID'd by Fin.

Dragon's Hoard:

22242 gold pieces
Scroll of Prot./Undead
1 map

The rod, battleaxe and gold ring detect as magical. The rod has the word 'shelter' written on it in Keln. Fin feels that the ring has magic resisting properties.

Priest goodies

112 cp
111 sp
924 ep
1725 gp
75 pp

Scroll of Prot/Lycanthropes
A magical rope
1 suit of magical plate mail
3 magic flails
5 suits of magical chain mail
4 magical shields

GM Notes:

Thanks to the efforts of the party's clerics and Ren's healing arts, most everyone is back to maximum. (14 CLW's can do wonders ;)

Party Status:

Stephanie 26 of 55
Cereld 41 of 43
Validar 31 of 53
Dar Thaltus 28 of 31

Also, those interested in joining a 2nd Frontier game should check out the notice on the Town Crier board.

Now what??

Spectrum's Comments: The notice for the 2nd Frontier game was for the Sword of Doom game. Since I've been doing double updates on Frontier as a favor to Muskateer, I started SOD earlier in hopes that the two would be close to each other when they eventually merged.

SUBJ: Renard (R) FROM: Ailoth 07/19/90 S#: 795236

Due to my unfavorable AC, can I have one of the radiant shields? I suppose that one of our magic user types could use the ring better than I, so I'll take the silver ring, the golden orb, and 250 gold pieces.

I'll also take a Heavy crossbow from the armory and 20 bolts, 20 sheath arrows, and 1 longsword. :)

Renard 'o the forest

Spectrum's Comments: I wonder why new players who had absolutely nothing to do with the battle where a treasure was won actually expect to get a cut of the goodies? It seems to happen frequently.

SUBJ: Arocken FROM: Wildchilde 07/20/90 S#: 497128

All I ask is for the suit of Radiant magical chainmail, some arrows to replace the ones I have used and a riding horse.

SUBJ: VALIDAR FROM: Panther 29 07/20/90 S#: 107000

"Cereld has proven wise in his distribution of the magical items that we have obtained in the past. I will leave that decision in your hands, my friend. I personally care not for any of the items, but if one remains, I would like the high priest's shield as a memento of sorts."

"I would like to make a point about this disgusting armor here." Validar will motion to the armor from the clerics. "I find it distasteful at best to be in the company of equipment that has been dedicated to a soulless slug like Hextor. I suggest burying the items or destroying them in some fashion. I trust that Cereld and Eagle, as clerics of his nemesis, would feel much the same as I, if not worse. In any case, I would not go riding into Gateway wearing such armor."

"Also, as I have said in the past: We have a large amount of treasure to divide up, including the 2 large rewards upon returning to Gateway. It is my feeling that anything that we do not leave with the former slaves here should just be added to the group treasure and it can be divided amongst us at a later, more relevant time. We shall have no use for money until after the situation at Gateway is solved."

Being curious, at some point Validar will examine the map in an attempt to figure out where it is. In some of the time spent preparing for our departure, Validar will clean his armor and weapons and do his best to remove the damage done by the emerald wyrm's large teeth. Validar will also take the time to thank Steph and Bernie for their trouble, but this will be done in private.

Validar is also curious as to the intentions of the other people we freed from the temple proper.

SUBJ: FINROD FROM: SGT STONEY 07/20/90 S#: 127458

"I, too, defer to the eminently just distributions that Cereld has made in the past...He has always done his best to insure equitable awards. I only suggest that perhaps the ring of resisting magic (type unknown) would best be given to Claudius...have you seen how poorly he gets out of the way in sparring?

From the general equipment stuff I will need a longsword, shortbow (damn, will I NEVER be able to replace my ruined longbow??), and 20 arrows.

"Validar, I'm busy with continued analysis of these magic Items, but I share your curiosity about the Map... perhaps when we get back on the road we could spend some time putting our heads together on this?"

"Steph, do you think I'm well enough to go for a little walk and get some air? These quarters are a little stuffy, and I've not seen the stars in far too long...you know how we Elves value the starlight. Perhaps you could accompany me on my stroll--just to make sure I don't overdo, of course." ];)

GM: Spell and skill updates will follow. Sorry, but I don't have my charsheet with me.

--Jim :)

SUBJ: Stephanie... FROM: Schar 07/20/90 S#: 817355

listens to everyone's opinions of the treasure.

'Comrades, noble Validar does have a point. We are in the middle of nowhere. Lining our pockets with coins will accomplish nothing at this point. We Seekers have a method of treasure division. There is no need for anyone to jump about saying I want this, I want that. Everyone will get a fair share. However, there is nothing wrong with making requests for magic items. The good cleric has handled the task of giving out the magic items and has done a good job thus far.'

'I too find the priests armor distasteful, but surely we can make use of it! It would be most fitting to use evil's own tools to foil them. Can they not be cleansed in some manner?'

Steph herself has no interest in any of the enchanted items present. The only thing that catches her eyes is some of the jewelry. Is some are given out, she will then state her preference. In the mean time she will fill her quiver with arrows.

During the task of sorting the treasure, Stephanie tries hard to keep a straight face as Bernice deals with Arocken. Poor guy, she thinks and makes a mental note to stay on the halflings good side.

'I think you're well enough for a walk, Finrod. I had best come along. Just in case the worst might happen.'

;)

HI! How is it going? Just need to clarify some things before I post.

1) Do your spell casters need material spell components or are we considered to have the common materials?

2) I need 1 more level before I learn another non-weapon proficiency, right?

Okay, here is a list of spells I would like to try and learn from the others. Let me know which ones I get. 1st= Enlarge, Burning Hands, Charm Person, Comp. Languages, Friends, Sleep, Unseen Servant, Mending, Light

2nd= Continual Light and Wizard Lock

I really didn't see any spells I could learn that were what I wanted. Looks like I will be doing some spell research when I get to a town that has the facilities.

Well, waiting to hear from you.

Spectrum's Comments: With numerous levels gained in this post, there were a lot of administrative posts and emails going on.

SUBJ: Renard (R) FROM: Ailoth 07/20/90 S#: 82573

....Validar, this armor is magical...It is quite rare that a party as ours is gifted with these items. Burying them because one of Hextor's foul minions wore them is just plain.... well... not practical. (Stupid if you get technical). If you feel that the armor is unclean, then you can have one of our clerics bless the armor. As for the gold... we can bury it. (A little clichéd, but it will work) we can make a crude map out of anything that will suit.

The practical Renard

SUBJ: Claudius... FROM: GM Falcon 07/20/90 S#: 400767

Claudius purrs like a happy kitten when he learns of the party's open-spellbook-policy. Being interested in the ex-change of knowledge, he is more than comfortable with this procedure.

As he looks at the treasure, he says nothing, and stays out of any arguments over who gets what, still taking the time to learn of his new group, and adjusting to his freedom.

Claudius will spend most of his time around the other mages, talking of spell techniques, then other things... science, engineering, etc. to try to determine the general expertise of his new cohorts.

When given a chance, he'll try to learn the following, in order:

Magic Missile (If he fails once, he'll try again if a second copy is available)

Alarm, Detect Magic, Identify

SUBJ: Araduin FROM: Deslock 07/21/90 S#: 99227

"AH! At last! I've been looking for these spells for some time now, with little luck."

I'll attempt to learn Chill Touch and Protection from Evil. I'll memorize Magic Missile, Sleep, Color Spray, Web, and Flaming Sphere, after first helping out Finrod as much as possible in identifying the various magic items we've acquired.

"I sure there'll come a time when we'll wish we had such luck, but at this point I'm more interested in the food we've found than in another pile of treasure."

I'll move about the town, helping out as I can, trading spells and training with the other mages.

- Was all this worth it? True, this town seemed to be set up as a re-supply center, but we've lost several days, and several comrades. I fear we may arrive at Gateway too late. -

Feeling somewhat depressed, I'll seek out Bernice.

"So Bernie, tell me of your exploits in this battle. We were separated early, and I have not had an opportunity to hear your tale. Come, come, sit and tell me all."

SUBJ: Blod... FROM: Begal 07/22/90 S#: 405622

First, I would like to apologize for being silent these last few posts. I was having 'puter trouble.

If it is ok with Cereld, I would like the plate mail. If someone else needs it more than I, then I would like a set of the chain. As for the rest of the treasure, the proper time to split it is in Gateway, after we have finished our business.

"Me like this loud armor!!! If I wear it, I sound like Sir Clang!!!" :D

GM Notes:

A flourish of spell swapping occurs due to the Open Spell Book Policy. Araduin, Claudius and Zynara all add new magicks to their repertoire.

Araduin added Chill Touch and Protection from Evil, closing out his first level spell list.

Claudius added Magic Missile and Alarm. (According to my list, you already had Detect Magic and Identify in your book.)

Zynara's new spells were sent via E-Mail.

A debate has come up over the priest armor. The chain mail appears like any other chain mail. The plate however is black with a large white skull on the torso. Beneath this is the symbol of Hextor: six red arrows in a fan pattern.

At the moment Jason plans to return to Gateway and see if he can get help for Andara.

The map is old, showing a portion of the old Keln Imperium. Several cities are mentioned, but they are not familiar. The one thing of interest on the map is a place marked with an 'X'. A short note, written in Keln, reads: "Kelnars Treasure Vault???"

--Finrod the Restless

SUBJ: VALIDAR (R) FROM: Panther 29 07/23/90 S#: 415764

Validar is quite surprised at the mercenary attitudes of his comrades regarding the Hextorite armor. He had not expected to be a single minority in voicing his disgust at the utilization of the captured armor.

The strain of the healing process has seemed to tax his resolve somewhat. Validar still feels VERY strongly about this subject, but for some reason has decided that arguing about this subject has become pointless, as no one seems to understand his stand. Hearing all the talk about the armor, Validar finally throws his hands up in the air in frustration and disgust.

"Very well, you may all do as you please regarding these vile 'things'. If anyone wishes to utilize these items of evil, that is their decision. I shall not condone it however. And I shall have nothing to do with it either. If anyone chooses to wear such armor into battle though, just be certain to stay out of my way. It would be unfortunate if you were to be slain by accident while wearing such."

Validar will stalk away from the discussion, taking the time to spit derisively at the ground near the armor in question before leaving the area.

"There is no honor is using such items. And I would be damned to fall in battle wearing this."

He will gather up the map and go to spend some time trying to find some clue to the true location of this treasure vault. Locating the source of the Imperium's wealth would be an act that the Crown would look most favorably upon.

Validar will start up the stairs of the temple. However, he stops in mid climb. He takes a moment to look the structure over and thinks better of it, deciding to find a somewhat comfortable place over where his warhorse is tethered.

In regards to Jason's plans, they are more than welcome to ride with us as we are going to Gateway as well. They may have some battle on their hands in the process however. Also, if his group were to remain with us for a time, it will give those of us with magical knowledge the opportunity to cure her affliction and in the process provide the key to Gateway's survival, if that should be the case.

SUBJ: FINROD FROM: SGT STONEY 07/24/90 S#: 416248

The wiry elf follows Validar over to where he sits next to his warhorse.

"Here, now, fellow, buck up! The party may seem to be a little harsh with you about your views, but they are by no means mercenary. Take from me, a mercenary from way back: they are not in the least MERCENARY." ::Smiles::

"You are quite right, as well, to distrust the armor consecrated to Hextor, but neither you nor I can claim to know more of such things than our noble clerics, and they seem to think that they can cleanse the Items of unclean dweomers."

::Sits beside the big fighter::

"Here, then, let's have another look at that map...I know something of ancient history, perhaps I can recognize some obscure landmark, with which to place this map." ::Another smile::

GM: this constitutes an attempt to use my Ancient History NWP. :)

My upgraded skills.

You can probably guess from the long post, if you wade through it, that Bernice's new weapon will be Short Sword.

Thieves skills: Add 15% to Detect Noise and Find/Remove Traps.

That's about it.

SUBJ: Claudius... (R) FROM: GM Falcon 07/24/90 S#: 130326

Claudius looks at Validar, and shrugs to himself. He sees the knight's point, but knows that disregarding an item, or worse knowledge, because it belongs or was known by the enemy, is foolhardy indeed.

"May I?", he asks, wandering over and also looking at the map. "I also know of ancient history...maybe together we can make sense of this thing..."

(Anc Hist for me too! ;))

Memorized Spells:

Lvl 1- Magic Missile

Spcl - Magic Missile

SUBJ: Cereld (R) FROM: Cereld 07/24/90 S#: 843074

Seeing Validar start to walk away in disgust, Cereld walks over and gently lays his hand on the warriors shoulder being prepared to duck in case he takes a swing at me :>) "Do not let the others sway your opinion about the armor my friend. I concur with you. (Oh boy, who would have believed this from our first adventure? Cereld and Validar in agreement against the popular opinion of the party) that suit of armor is so full of evil it disgusts me. I must admit that I thought at first that we might be able to convert it to our cause, but I fear that this is way beyond my abilities. I cannot, being a priest of Heironeous, allow anyone to wear that vile suit. WE must destroy it so that its evil may not stain this world any longer. I do not think that I may be able to do even this on my own so I ask you to help me in this matter." Cereld will then address the entire group,

"The suit of plate armor is useless to us and will be destroyed. On this matter I will accept NO argument. As I have just finished telling Validar, I have checked with Heironeous and he says that it is utterly EVIL. Being a cleric of Heironeous, my only alternative is to destroy the foul suit. As to the rest of the treasure, I once again agree with Validar (this is becoming a habit) that the monetary treasure can wait to be divided up. As to the magic, I have listened to everyone's requests and feel that it should be split up as follows. If anyone wishes something else or has something to say that they feel I have overlooked, please let me know.

Araduin will get both scrolls.

Zynara will get the rod. Perhaps with the help of the others, you can figure out exactly what it does.

Eagle will get the battleaxe, weapon of Heironeous.

Claudius will get the gold ring. The same thing that I said to Zynara goes for you Claudius. Oh and forgive me my manners, the last few days have been a little rough on us all. Welcome to the Seekers.

Bernice, I could not think of someone who would not make better use of the magical rope than you. We do not yet know how it works or what it does, but I trust that you will figure that out or the others will help you.

Dar, Blod, Arocken and Renard will get suits of chain mail. Dar, since you have the tendency to be like my friend Validar here and try and take on dragons by yourself (Cereld has a huge smile on his face) you will get the more enchanted of the suits. Renard, what I said to Claudius also goes to you. Welcome to the Seekers.

Renard, Dar, Finrod and Arathron will each get one of the shields.

Validar, you get possession of the map that seems to have your attention.

This leaves the three flails and one more suit of chain mail. I have a need of one of the flails, but I will return it later (if it survives) as I have no use for it. Any who want them are free to take them."

SUBJ: Cereld cont. (R) FROM: Cereld 07/24/90 S#: 849577

"I would suggest, however, that if Jason is going to accompany us to Gateway that the remaining suit and one of the flails be given to him.

Jason, the choice is yours if you wish to come with us. We are more than certain that Gateway is probably under siege, so it will be very dangerous. If I may be so bold as to make this suggestion, I would prefer if the others stay here and guard this place until we return. There may be others who are coming along behind us, and I would feel a little safer knowing that there is someone defending there supply camp. Anyone who does come here will not know that the place has been raided, so this will give you the element of surprise and more than a fighting chance against any foe. There is one thing that would help them even more though, and that is a leader. Jason, you would very easily fit into this position. The others will follow your lead easily. If you do this, I give you my word as a priest of Heironeous that I will seek out scribes and alchemists to find an antidote to the vial poison that was fed the beautiful priestess. What do you say?"

After the conversation has ended, Cereld will prepare for the 'destruction' of the armor. The day before we leave he will load up with Bless, Remove Curse, Strength and Dispel Magic spells. He will ask that Dar and Eagle do the same. He will take the suit to the other side of the fort (having never destroyed a magic item before). He will first cast Strength spells on himself and anyone else (except Validar) who is helping destroy the suit. Then he will lead the others in a barrage of spells on the armored suit. After this he will take one of the magic flails and beat the suit until it is nothing more than a worthless pile of junk.

SUBJ: Cereld (R) FROM: Cereld 07/24/90 S#: 845571

Further note: Cereld will scoop up some of the remaining potion in the cauldron into a flask or bottle (probably the one that the paladin emptied if it is unbroken and after it is washed out). He will also take any notes on the mixture and put them in his backpack.

SUBJ: Zynara (R) FROM: Zynara 07/24/90 S#: 466517

Since I have no interest in any of the magic items, I ask for none. When I receive the Rod, I will thank our kind cleric and then go about testing it in a safe area.

I will hold onto the rod for the time being for the party and use it for the parties good but I lay no claim on it. I am content with the knowledge I gained from the open spell books. I only wish I had understood the comprehend language spell.

I will offer my assistance in helping with the map. My knowledge of history and languages might come in handy. I will also get the horses and mules and help pack the treasure we found here. What we can't take with us, I would suggest leaving here for the ex-slaves and those that stay. I don't want to sound greedy but the money is the most important part of the treasure to me. It will come in handy when we get to a good town for spell research.

SUBJ: Another long one (R) FROM: Modesty1 07/24/90 S#: 425226

Bernice seems a little on edge these days after the treasure haul. She avoids Cereld's eyes, and pats her pocket unconsciously. But she loves sleeping in a real bed, and eating something besides hardtack. She avoids discussions about leaving this relatively comfortable place.

When Cereld speaks her name, her head jerks up guiltily. When he tells her about the rope though, she steps forward and takes it. Not quite as excited as you'd expect, but probably happier than anyone else is. She'll try out the ropes properties, not sure of what a magic rope would do. She'll attempt to climb short walls with it, tie something up with it, and throw it at objects (not people) to see if it ties itself.

When Validar thanks her, Bernie asks a favor. Almost shyly she asks, "Could the weapons be so bad to handle? I agree with you, I could not wear armor that an evil priest wore, but would the weapons be tainted? I hope not, because I would like your help in picking out a short sword. I feel ready to try out a new weapon, and since you know so much about that sort of thing. Will you? Please?" She smiles hopefully at him.

Bernie will readily recount her part in the battle, with slight embellishments. (You asked for this Araduin!) ;) "Well...I guess you know that I was with the group that took the tower. I was, of course, the first to arrive. When the others finally arrived a band of orcs was advancing up the street, intent on destroying us. I, of course, wanted to stay and fight, but the door opened easily and Dar pulled me in after the rest of the group. Someone slammed and bolted the door. Then Dar picked me to help him out with the unknown dangers upstairs, and left the others the job of holding the door closed" ::derisive snort here:: "I was, maybe a little nervous. Anyways, halfway up the stairs, we ran into some orcs. Eight...or maybe ten. Well, Dar and me had no trouble with them, it was a slaughter. When we got to the top of the stairs, we surprised....um... probably TWELVE orcs." Bernie will describe this battle with great detail.

"After that..." she's quiet for a second. "Well, I rushed down the stairs to help with the dragon, but I must stumbled on the last steps, or something, because I woke up a few seconds later on the bottom of the tower. I jumped up, cleared my head and ran outside. I really wanted to attack the dragon with my dagger, but he was flying, so I took out my trusty ole sling" ::she pats her hip:: and throw those bullets as hard as I could." Bernie leans close and confides in him. "I'm not sure if it was Steph's arrows or something else" ::wink:: "That killed that dragon." She says all this with a straight face. "And what did you do, Araduin, my friend?"

SUBJ: Renard FROM: Ailoth 07/24/90 S#: 17083

I thank you Cereld for your gracious gifts. I do believe we have not met. Hello, My name is Renard, I am a ranger by trade. I am an experienced hunter, herbalist, scribe (in common only), animal trainer, (I am presently looking for my war dog, whom the orcs took and were prepared to eat), and I am also proficient with the rope, and I can speak fluent Elvish. I hope these abilities can help you in your quest. I do believe it is to get to gateway. Am I right?

After I find My war dog, I will feed him the various foods in the storehouse and let him rest.

GM: I'm going to take off my studded leather and put on my chainmail, but I'll still carry the set of studded leather with me for future use. (fighting 2 handed) I'll take my 20 sheath arrows and stash them in my backpack, and I'll also take 200 gold from the hoard for future use. (Bribes)

SUBJ: Arocken FROM: Wildchilde 07/24/90 S#: 425857

"I too share your sentiments on the Evil Plate Mail armor Validar, but as for the rest it could be most beneficial to our cause and should be used."

I will remove my Studded leather and replace it with the new chainmail. I will then begin to search for Kortul.

SUBJ: VALIDAR (R) FROM: Panther 29 07/25/90 S#: 393868

When Cereld attempts to stop Validar, he will look down at the hand on his shoulder then to Cereld himself.

"I don't think there is much danger in ANYONE swaying my opinions."

He will then continue on as in earlier post.

While talking with the little halfling,....

"I never said anything about the weapons in particular, Bernice, but it is also possible that the weapons could be dedicated to the evil deity. However, as he does not have a main weapon, Hextorites don't often have weaponry like our clerics of Heironeous."

"I can certainly help you pick out the best quality weapon available. I could also assist you in learning to use the weapon, although I am somewhat more familiar with the heavier-handed weapons. However, I think my specialty weapon might be slightly inappropriate for you. It may take some time, but we could begin on the basics whenever you wished."

"It may not be my place to ask, but you seem somewhat jittery of late. Does something bother you, my friend?"

When Finrod comes over to sit next to Validar, the stoic look on his face hides the genuine surprise he feels.

"Actually, I find these actions quite mercenary. The desire to use something regardless of the danger or morality involved. But I care not to discuss the point any longer."

As the others start to congregate around the map, Validar will point out that the writing on it is in Keln. Pointing out one particular place on the map,...

"It says here that this is the location of Kelnar's treasure vault. Kelnar was the previous Emperor of Keln. This vault must hold many items of great power. It would most likely also be a dangerous undertaking. Kelnar was a mage of no little regard."

Validar will also point out the names of the other landmarks to those knowing ancient history, as none of these places are known to his limited knowledge of Keln geography.

After things have quieted down a bit regarding the great armor debate,

Validar is much more personable again. Soon the talk turns to the preparations for leaving.

"I think that we should take the money that we are claiming as our own with us. Between our mounts and the additional ones, we should have no trouble carrying it with us."

"I don't think that it will slow us down considerably, providing we can locate enough storage items. Also, Renard, Cereld and I have decided that the money shall be split up in Gateway. Therefore, your request for the 200 gold pieces will have to wait until then."

"I think that we should make haste to leave this place as quickly as possible. If anyone else requires healing, I suggest it be done immediately, as well. We are still over five days travel from the town. Each day we lose gives the goblinoid horde that much more of an advantage. And there are much better accommodations than this back in Gateway, once we reclaim it, Bernie."

"Cereld's suggestion to leave Jason and his party to protect this place is wise. The threat of more reinforcements coming in is not low, however, and I would not be surprised to see many of the slaves scamper out of here at the first sign of trouble, if left to their own means."

"One other thing we must decide upon is if we should leave the mules behind for now. They will add to our travelling time by a full day, at best."

"Finally, Cereld, since this is my map, I suppose that it also means that everything in this vault is mine as well?" He says this with a sly smile on his face.

"Cereld, as you should know by now, the use of a shield is alien to my nature, and I cannot therefore accept one as my magic Item. Since, however, all the other items have been distributed, I will content myself to return this Shield to the Party Treasure, and hope that you will remember a little more within my realms next time the opportunity arises."

"That's quite a tale, Bernie, I think I shall have to compose a song about your exploits. My own accomplishments in the battle were rather limited, I'm afraid. Still, the orcs have been scattered, and we shall soon move on to Gateway. Perhaps there we shall have material to turn your ballad into an epic."
