Crusaders #19 - "'Living in a Land of Confusion"
As Firestar agrees with Spirit's idea to secure these villains, Imperial and Ranger go about that task.
Felicity - "No, there is no place to hold these villains for any time on this base. "
Firestar - "In any case, we can call PRIMUS and have them come collect the trash."
Nightingale - "That would take care of the problem. However, I suggest making sure they do not awaken. All of them have mental powers and therefore are never helpless as long as they are conscious."
Imperial - "Fair enough! If any of them start to stir, I'll just bop 'em on the noggin."
Firestar - "Come on, Felicity. Let's go call PRIMUS."
Imperial - "Order me a pizza while you're at it."
Spirit - "What about Blowtorch?"
Firestar - "Good question..."
Felicity - "The scanners may be able to locate him."
Spirit - "I think I'll take a look around myself, if no one minds."
Turning desolid, the Spirit slips through a nearby wall and is out of sight.
Imperial - "Just stay out of my room!!"
Also, the slagged Lightwarp appears now to be made out of metal or plastic. There is still nothing more left than a greenish puddle.
Ranger - "What shall we do in the meantime?"
Imperial - "Well, wanna join me for a nice cold Pepsi?"
Some few moments later, Firestar radios Imperial and Ranger, standing guard over the still unconscious Psi-Kin.
Firestar - "PRIMUS is already on the way. However, there's something else. Felicity has managed to locate a large heat source on the basement level. Radar also places an intruder there."
Ranger - "Our friend, Blowtorch?"
Imperial - "Sounds that way. We're on our way!"
However, neither hero is able to hear Felicity on the radio. If they did, they would have heard her say something about a massive power build-up, leading to an....
E X P L O S I O N ! ! !
Suddenly, a good one-half of the large structure is suddenly ripped by a massive ball of fire!
Enforcer has his little exchange with CINDI. Fortunately for the A.I.D.,
CINDI - "Why yes! In fact the password is SLEDGEHAMMER. I was watching TV", which made me think of it."
The base opens, and Enforcer enters, after asking Nomad and Starshine where they can be reached.
Nomad - "We'll I'm still on my way to the Crusaders base. And I still think you should come with me, pretty lady. You've certainly got the ability!"
Starshine - "Well, I don't have anywhere else to go. And I always did want to see New York. Okay. Let's go. Seeya around, Enforcer."
Some time later, the two heroes can be seen flying toward the Crusaders base.
Starshine - "I still don't understand how I got here though."
Nomad - "Beats me, maybe....Hey! What's goin' on down there?!"
On the street below them, the two see a motorcycle suddenly veer off the street and smash into a parked car. The driver is sent sprawling. Upon further investigation, the man, an Indian, is wearing a costume of some sort, in yellow and white.
The pair swoops down and find that the man is not alone. A squad of VIPER agents is moving in on the dazed rider. However, these are not ordinary VIPER agents. Under their normal helmets, they appear to be skeletons!!
Agent - "You killed us, Yellow Eagle! Now we're going to return the favor!!"
The heroes all come around at roughly the same time. Imperial, Firestar, Spirit, and Ranger all get up and wipe the dust off their bodies, all aching terribly. How long you were out is hard to tell, although a few small fires burn here and there. Neither Nightingale nor Felicity can be seen however. The same holds for the Psi-Kin.
Imperial - "Oh my head! What happened?"
Spirit - "I have no idea. All of a sudden there was fire, everywhere."
Firestar - "Felicity said something about the energy being familiar. I remember her yelling a name. Fire-something..."
Ranger - "Perhaps Firewing. He's the only one I know of who has such power."
Imperial - "Oh great, my headache just got worse..."
"Not as bad as it's going to be, son! Everyone put your hands up! You're all under arrest!"
As the stunned heroes turn to look, they see that all around the destroyed base are numerous PRIMUS agents. A Silver Avenger leads them, and they all have their weapons trained on you.
Post away!!
Spectrum's Comments: For those who haven't figured it out yet, our heroes are trapped in Genocide's Arena environment. (As shown in Spectrum #1-5 on the main site.) So everything that's happening to them is all in their minds and drawn from their minds. Ranger thought up Nightingale, Firestar Felicity & Ernie, and so on. Ironically this was not the only time this kind of scenario was run on Q Link. I did a different version of it in Young Champions that was played mostly for laughs with a completely different group of heroes.
I think Yellow Eagle was supposed to be a new player, but he never posted and so went away very quickly. Easy to do in a artificially created environment!

This is insane! Things have been happening here that cannot be reasonably explained. I'm beginning to get the horrible feeling that perhaps we we're the ones who were captured!

Leaving his friends to solve the Problem with Primus hoping they can talk there way out. Once in the basement levels I will stay Invisible and Search for Felicity and blowtorch. If I find Blowtorch this Time I will Kill him and Rip him open. Because I'm starting to form a Theory.

Spectrum's Comments: I'm not sure what Spirit's theory was supposed to be, but I did turn out incorrect. If, as I suspect, Imperial's actions lead to battle, I'll move in and start taking out these 'Primus' agents as quickly as possible. I'll keep on the move, since, if these guys are anywhere near as good as the real thing, we've got a fight on our hands.

Crusaders #20 - "Mind Games"
The arrival of the PRIMUS agents and their attempt to arrest our heroes come as a bit of surprise. However, the heroes don't exactly go along with the request either.
Firestar - "Gentlemen, there has been some kind of misunderstanding. We are the Crusaders."
Silver Avenger - "Don't make us laugh. We know this is a VIPER pit. We've been watching this location for some time now. Give yourselves up, before you get hurt!"
Spirit - "I don't know what's going on here, but I'm going to find out!"
Turning to his spirit form, the Spirit suddenly sinks into the ground and disappears. Without warning the PRIMUS agents start firing!
Ranger - "So much for talking our way out of this..."
Imperial - "Ha! The Tin Avenger and his boys in blue! Well, come on you jerks! This is the Crusaders that you're dealing with! We don't take nothin' from nobody!"
As the PRIMUS agents start to move in on the smoking ruins of the Crusaders Mansion, Imperial takes to the air to meet them.
Firestar - "I demand to know what the charges are!"
Silver Avenger - "I already told you. We know that you are all VIPER agents! There are more charges against you than I care to list.
As the Avenger moves to intercept Firestar, Imperial and Ranger swarm into the PRIMUS agents. Ranger combats the agents hand to hand with numerous spinning kicks and quick moves. Imperial meanwhile, uses his great strength to simply overwhelm his opponents. Fortunately for our heroes, both are quite effective and agents begin to fall quickly.
Firestar - "Well, I've done everything I can to clear this up. Now, you've forced me to defend myself!"
Silver Avenger - "Do what you like, sister, you're about to..."
Suddenly there is a tremendous burst of fiery energy. The Avenger is downed, as well as three of the nearby PRIMUS agents.
Imperial - "Yeah! We got 'em on the run. Let's stick it to 'em, Ranger!"
As the battle begins to rage overhead, the Spirit drifts down through the ground and debris that has fallen into parts of the basement. The blocked passages are as inconsequential to Spirit as the earth itself.
Spirit - "I'm starting to form a theory about this. Let's see if I'm right."
The Spirit moves through the basement level and eventually comes to the area under the communications center. Under the rubble, Spirit can see part of Felicity buried.
Spirit - "I better be careful of her, even if she is unconscious. Just in case my theory is correct."
However, after a few moments of unburying the young woman, it is painfully obvious that she is dead, crushed by the fallen debris. Spirit stares at the body for a few moments, then turns away.
His eyes then catch a familiar sight: Blowtorch's weapon! Spirit turns solid and pulls the weapon free from the rubble. He looks it over and sees that it is still operational. Then he sees the outstretched hand of the villain. Only the arm is seen sticking free of the debris.
Working like a man possessed, Spirit frees the villain. After a few moments of prodding, Blowtorch groggily begins to come to.
Blowtorch - "Oh, man, I hurt all over..."
Spirit - "Not as badly as you're going to hurt!"
Blowtorch turns at the familiar sound of his weapon spewing flames.
Blowtorch - "Who are you? What do you think you're doing with my weapon there?!"
Spirit - "This!"
With a sudden move, Spirit aims at the villain and fires. Blowtorch is engulfed in flames. He staggers forward as Spirit continues to bathe him in the deadly fire. After a few steps, Blowtorch falls, still on fire. The smell becomes overwhelming. Burnt, charred flesh. Spirit stands watching the final death throes of the villain.
Meanwhile, at the hidden base of the Enforcer...
Enforcer - "CINDI, get me patched up quick! Wherever that explosion came from, they may need my help!"
As CINDI begins to clean and dress the Enforcer's wound, the A.I.D. begins scanning the area with the bases computerized system.
CINDI - "Sensors state that the explosion was centered on the mansion of the super-hero team, the Crusaders. Memory circuits indicate that the team has been recently re-formed and the base re-inhabited."
Enforcer - "Interesting... That's also where Nomad and Starshine said they were going. Well, I did say that I would hook up with them again."
As CINDI continues his work, the Enforcer tries to pick up a news broadcast of the event. For some reason, all the airwaves contain static on all channels.
Enforcer - "What in the world...?!"
CINDI - "Apparently there seems to be some sort of city-wide power shortage. We seem to be experiencing a major blackout. The base itself is on auxiliary power.
Enforcer - "Why didn't you say so before?"
CINDI - "You didn't ask."
Enforcer - "Aren't you done there yet?"
CINDI - "Just a moment more."
CINDI finishes the patch up job, and Enforcer dons a new costume.
Enforcer - "I'll be using the car as transit, so I will keep in touch with you."
CINDI - Very well. Do not forget the password this time."
The Enforcer races away from the base and toward the mansion of the Crusaders. His mind is occupied by the current events. Outside, nearly everything is dark. Then it hits him. There are no people anywhere!
Suddenly, the black sports car screeches to a stop. Enforcer opens the door and looks out. There are numerous buildings and cars all around, but no people. He looks up and is quite surprised to see the Los Angeles Coliseum just off to his left.
Enforcer - "What in the world...?!"
The blue and black-garbed adventurer slumps back to his seat and closes his eyes. Strangely, he can hear all the familiar sounds of New York City.
As he quickly opens his eyes again, the sounds quickly fade. The city appears deserted again. Enforcer radios back to his base.
Enforcer - "CINDI, I want you to...CINDI? CINDI?!"
But the communication system is dead. With a silent curse, Enforcer guns the throttle and the black car speeds off into the night with an incredible screech of rubber.
As Nomad and Starshine swoop in on the scene developing below them, they see the skeletal VIPER agents swarming in on the costumed Indian.
Nomad - "The man looks like he could use our help!"
Starshine - Yes, he does!"
Starshine flies in at full speed, easily racing ahead of her hooded companion. She lands near the agents' apparent prey and opens fire. Bursts of bright energy erupt from her fingertips and engulf two of the agents. They howl an inhuman howl and are blasted into dust.
However, the agents number about 10 and the other eight open fire on the pair. Starshine manages to deflect most of the damage away with her forcefield, but Yellow Eagle is not as lucky. He is driven back to the ground again.
Starshine - "I'm really getting sick of this whole dead thing. New York is really a depressing town!"
Nomad crashes down on one of the agents from the sky, and downs him (it?). However, two more of them swarm over him and bring him to the ground in a pile of bodies.
Meanwhile, the rest close the circle about Starshine and the fallen Yellow Eagle.
Starshine - "Everyone told me there were a lot of muggings in New York, but I assumed they were made by people!"
VIPER Agent - "You killed us, Yellow Eagle. Now we shall kill you!"
Starshine screams as two of the horrific forms grab her from behind. The rest close in on the defenseless Eagle. Nomad, meanwhile, battles on his own as well.
After a few moments, Starshine bursts into the air and away from the ghastly creatures. She takes a moment to compose herself and then turns back to the scene below. The sight sickens her.
The skeletal agents have mauled Yellow Eagle. Nomad is unable to help, still battling his own opponents. Starshine flies back at the rabid crowd of seemingly increasing agents. They completely cover the fallen Indian now.
In one incredible burst of photonic energy, Starshine emits a machine gun-like series of energy beams. In a mere moment, the entire bunch of ghostly VIPER agents is a mere smoking pile of ash.
Nearby, Nomad manages to put down the remaining of the two agents, beating it to the ground with its own arm.
Starshine - "Oh my goodness..."
Nomad - "Looks like we were too late. There's not much more we can do for this poor soul."
Starshine - "And here I thought the superhero world was a glamorous one. This is beginning to become depressing..."
Nomad - "Come on. We still might be able to do something about that explosion. Let's go. I'll radio the police and an ambulance."
The two heroes then take to the air, silently.
The fighting is pretty much over by this point. PRIMUS agents lie scattered about the still smoking ruins of the destroyed mansion.
Imperial - "What a bunch of wimps!"
Ranger - "I have a bad feeling about this whole situation. There's something wrong here. Very wrong."
Firestar - "I have to agree, Ranger."
Imperial - "Aw, you guys are just a bunch o' worry-warts. The only thing that's wrong is our base is destroyed!"
Ranger - "I disagree. For one thing..."
Suddenly, Ranger is dropped by a mysterious blast from hiding. He is unconscious.
[Note: At this point, you should read the mail that I said not to read until now, Deslock]
Firestar - "What was that?!"
Imperial - "It came from over there, sweet cheeks! Let's go!"
As the two heroes fly toward where the blast came from, they see two costumed figures.
Void - "There are two more of them! Let's take them out. Quickly!"
Freon - "Don't worry. We can handle them."
As the heroes close in they see a man in a black costume and another in a blue and white costume. The man in blue is suddenly encased in armor made from ice.
Firestar - "Neat trick, but it won't help you against me!"
She blankets Freon in fire and he is quickly and easily downed. Imperial, meanwhile, races toward the Void.
Imperial - "And you're mine, Mr. Shadow."
However, Imperial merely passes straight through his target."
Void - "Fool!"
Suddenly, a ghostly hand springs from the Void's chest. It gropes toward Imperial.
Imperial - "Neat parlor trick. But I've got a few of my own."
Void grabs his head, letting out a scream. The hand disappears and Void drops to the ground.
Imperial - "This is getting too easy."
Firestar - "For once, I hope you're right, Imperial."
The two remaining heroes revive Ranger. At this time, Nomad and Starshine arrive on the scene. A few moments later, Enforcer's car comes up on the ruined mansion as well.
At this point you are all free to discuss your options and decide what you're going to do. Spirit is currently still below the mansion (at least for the moment).
Also, Void and Freon seem to be coming to at this point as well.
Spectrum's Comments: I did say that Yellow Eagle didn't last long. While I don't have a copy of the mail Ranger's player received, the gist of it was his character waking up and seeing scientists running around in a laboratory before he reappeared in the Arena environment.

Void and Freon are also starting to stir.
Ranger - "Tell me, to the best of your knowledge, were each of you captured by those robot goons? Our escape has not been adequately explained. That, and there are inconsistencies in our present environment.

Fire begins to surround her hand.
Firestar - "I am not in the best of moods, so if I were you, I would choose my words most carefully."
Freon stands up and moves toward Firestar.
Freon - "I don't particularly like your attitude, girly."
A sheath of ice-like armor suddenly surrounds him.
Void - "Wait, my friend, they appear to be real people like us."
Imperial - "Of course we're real people!"
Firestar - "Are you suggesting that our earlier opponents were not?"
Void - "Indeed. We have been fighting numerous foes over the past few days. Each time they were defeated, our opponents disappeared."
Freon - "We thought that you were more of the same. We figured once we beat everything thrown at us, we'd eventually make it out of here."
Starshine - "Wowers. This is bizarre."
Void -"We were previously accompanied by Shamrock and Black Mamba as well, but they cannot be found."
Enforcer - "Maybe they were illusions, as well."
Nomad - "This all seems a little too real to be an illusion."
Starshine - "Everyone! Look around you!"
As hero and villain alike stare about, they find themselves on a featureless, ghostly white plane. Slowly, after a moment, the familiar surroundings seem to fade back in again.
Ranger - "I think that is a pretty good example that my idea is at least partially correct."
Enforcer - "I had something similar, if not as drastic, happen as well."
Nomad - "Man, this is just too much!"
Imperial - "I agree."
Enforcer - "So, what's the plan on how to get out of this nightmare?"
Firestar - "Well, I am open to suggestions."
Freon - "I suggest that we not remain in one place for too long. The attacks come with much more regularity then."
Imperial - "It seems to me that we could go just about anywhere we wanted, if this just some hokey dream world."
A short time later, the heroes find themselves assembled inside Madison Square Garden.
Imperial - "So, now what?"
Void - "Something is coming!"
Suddenly, the roof of the structure is collapsed in. As the dust settles, a number of figures can be seen in front of the heroes: Thunder & Lightning, Grond, Vibron, Sunburst, Oculon, Bulldozer, and Titaness are assembled before the group.

Wow... Things just keep getting weirder and weirder... Ranger is right. The last thing I recall before being 'here' has being blasted by that robot. We all must have been captured. The technology involved to pull off this stunt is incredible... We must figure out someway to get out of this mess. If we were all captured by Genocide that could explain how Starshine and the others ended up in this place. Since we can't tell the difference between reality and illusion, we seem to have no choice but to enter another senseless battle. And since I doubt that such a large group of 'real' villains would be found in this realm, they must be illusions. With that thought in mind, we don't have to hold back in dealing with these illusions. Since I am more resistant to energy attacks, I'll attack those who possess such attacks. If I have enough END left, I'll fire a Nova blast into the villains to soften them up. Otherwise, use the normal EB.
