1983

January 4th

  • Vortex and Quantum join the Avengers, replacing Density and Warlock, who transferred to the Guardians, replacing Morning Star and Lightburst.

    January 5th

  • The Protectors battle the Ultimates in San Francisco. The Ultimates lose, but none are captured.

    January 12th

  • The Whip is sent by the KGB to eliminate the members of Eurostar individually. Bora, his first target, drops him from a high altitude and leaves him for dead. He is greatly injured, but alive.

    February 2nd

  • The government rescinds its official recognition of the Guardians. Black Diamond and Nightingale rejoin the Avengers, replacing Vortex and Quantum. Warlock and Density decide to remain with the Guardians and Sidewinder returns to the team. The Guardians line up now consists of Hornet, Spinnerette, Lazerblast, Duplicator, Sidewinder, Warlock, and Density.

    February 15th

  • Herculean lands on Earth.

    February 28th

  • Boa Constrictor is captured by Powershift in Central Park.

    April 14th

  • The London Watch is formed by the Watchmaker. The founding members are: Dr. Goldwing, Repulse, Swift Swallow, Mole and Yeoman.

    June 12th

  • A strange meteor strikes a Soviet Spacecraft. The three cosmonauts survive, and all gain paranormal powers as a result. They go on to become Sputnik, Cosmo, and St. Peter's Star.

    June 23rd

  • Captain Thunder dies, passing the power onto his son, who will eventually become Renegade.

    June 30th

  • Resonator joins the Freedom League.

    July 5th

  • Renegade joins the Protectors.

    July 7th

  • The Gold Coast Guardians defeat The Destroyers in a plot to steal plutonium. The Destroyers eludes capture.

    July 10th

  • Sea Change leaves Lyonesse.

    July 15th

  • Villains International goes to Greece to recruit the mysterious Oracle as a member, but she is not to be found. Instead, Golden Marauder and Rakshasa encounter the German villain Master Stroke who is in Greece hiding for Euroguard, a European superhero team. The three villains team up to battle the heroes, but Master Stroke is captured and the other two flee.

    August 25th

  • The Fox of Crime leads his group of hired villains: Shrinker, Armadillo, Brick, Ogre, Lightning, and Thunder to make a raid on Fort Knox. The Gold Coast Guardians stops the raid.

    October 24th

  • Sleeper recruits Terastar for his group, Plunder.

    November 2nd

  • Indigo marries the mutant girl Mara Jacobs. The two leave PSI.

    November 19th

  • Sea Change joins the London Watch.

    December 12th

  • The Titanic Trio forms in Chicago. Founders include Equinox, Vortex, and Nebula.

    December 14th

  • Armadillo joins Project Sunburst.

    December 18th

  • Orrad and another, unknown alien stop a group of plane hijackers on their way to the Middle East. The alien accidentally kills some of the criminals, and then kills himself in remorse.

    1984

    January 5th

  • Indigo's wife is killed by VIPER agents who attempt to kidnap the two mutants. Indigo rejoins PSI.

    January 9th

  • Linda Landis (PRIMUS Investigator Linda Larson undercover) is hired to be the receptionist for the Gold Coast Guardians.

    January 16th

  • Soviet Chairman Andropov merges the Comintern with the Supreme Soviets under Colonel Vasalov.

    January 23th

  • The Conquerors, after committing a long series of terrorist acts in Saudi Arabia, are defeated by the Champions in Riyadh.

    February 4th

  • Avar-7 lands on Earth and decides to become a superhero.

    February 11th

  • Fear finishes creating the Seven Horsemen. They attack a small town in Mexico, utterly destroying it.

    March 19th

  • Fleetfoot leaves the Capitol Patrol to go solo once again, vowing that he'd never again join another team. There is bad blood between the hero and the rest of the team that continues to the present.

    March 21st

  • An unknown villain called Hexmaster, leading the villains' Volcano, Sensor, and Titaness, kidnaps the mayor of New York. The Avengers defeat the villains and rescue the mayor, but Hexmaster proves to simply be a decoy robot of the real villain.

    April 10th

  • A bill, which would restrict the activities of superpowered individuals, is defeated in the Senate due in part to the lobbying of Senate representatives and the speeches given by Rep. Clayton Mansfield.

    April 19th

  • Genocide and PSI first battle each other, causing massive amount of damage to the St. Louis area.

    April 20th

  • VIPER agents attack Sanctuary in retaliation for their influence on the Paranormal Restriction Bill. The Capitol Patrol and Project Sunburst, who happen to be at Sanctuary at the same time, fend them off.

    April 29th

  • Avar-7 is captured in a battle with Mechanon.

    May 10th

  • The Swordfish agents and the hero Seaspray stop an invasion of Bermuda by a Professor Masterson before it gets a chance to start.

    May 12th

  • The monstrous Brute joins the Freedom League.

    June 17th

  • PRIMUS agents apprehend Freon on one of his first robberies.

    June 19th

  • The Metropolitan Extraterrestrial Enclave (METE) is set up, financially backed by the Champions, Sanctuary, and the Protectors. The alien hero Orrad is major figure within this organization. The facility is set up on a concealed island a few miles from Sanctuary Island.

    July 9th

  • Force replaces Vortex as a member of the Titanic Trio.

    July 10th

  • Avar-7, reprogrammed, escapes from Mechanon's control.

    July 14th

  • Mechassassin, having left Eurostar, becomes the head of security for DEMON.

    July 17-18th

  • Troubleshooters #5-7 - The Scarlet Sabre, aided by FIST and Microwave, encounters agents of Iron Maiden, VIPER, and the Thugmaster's Elite while transporting an experimental project cross-country.

    August 17th

  • James Sculley (Spectrum) is kidnapped by Hexmaster.

    August 28th

  • The PSI-Kin are first used by PSI to eliminate two anti-mutant senators. Both senators are killed.

    September 3rd

  • Mongoose makes his first attack against COIL agents as they attempt to rob a bank in Chicago.

    September 13th

  • Mecha of the Champions is slain in an ambush by Mechanon. The robot then poses as the armored heroine to attack the other Champions.

    September 14th

  • Mechanon is destroyed in a battle with the Champions and Avar-7 (in which Avar-7 helped defeat the villain, and then turned on the heroes), but as always, he manages to send a signal to one of his secret bases to create a new body for him. However this time there is a female intruder in the base and she is used by the base to create a new Mechanon. The sprit of the hero Mecha attempts to interfere with this process but accidentally enters the woman. This fusion of spirit, programming and robots disrupts the labs attempt and instead creates a new, different being. Thus the Engineer is born. Mechanon's consciousness, still in the base computer, sends a building signal to another hidden lab to begin construction of a body for him. The Engineer escapes with Mecha's hatred for Mechanon, but sharing the robots contempt for all life.

    September 18th

  • Lyndon Johnson Kaufman, a Silver Avenger, defects to the Soviet Union in the Central American nation of Guamanga. He joins the Supreme Soviets and becomes Red Shield.

    October 1st

  • Warlock and Density are married in a private ceremony.

    October 14th

  • Terastar recruits Silver Dragon into Plunder after a battle with UNTIL agents in Alberta, Canada.

    November 25th

  • The Whip, after leaving the KGB, teams up with Utility.

    November 27th

  • The Circle learns that the demonic entity Krim is to blame for the existence of Dark Seraph's Iron Crown, Earthmaster's Earth Crown, and the Grandmaster's Stone Crown. The heroes confront Dark Seraph in an attempt to tell him that Krim is using him. Instead, Seraph attacks mercilessly. Led by the Enchantress and the Sorceress, the Circle is able to imprison Dark Seraph in a cave in the West Virginia Mountains.

    December 1st

  • The Engineer, in the guise of Mechanon, hires Titaness, Brick, Vibron, and Fire & Ice to assassinate prominent PRIMUS and SAT agents, proclaiming the "New Order". Three such agents are killed, but Fire & Ice and Brick are apprehended.

    December 2nd

  • Linda Larson, undercover as Linda Landis, tips off the Miami Herald about Citadel's affair with Susan Marks, the wife of the Gold Coast Guardians benefactor. This leads to the end of Citadel's hero career.

    December 4th

  • The Capitol Patrol, manipulated by faked messages sent by the Engineer, discover Mechanon's whereabouts and attack him. After a long fight, Mechanon defeats the heroes, but during the battle, deduces that it was the Engineer who led them to him. Rather then kill or capture the unconscious heroes, he flies off to find the Engineer.

    December 9th

  • Troubleshooters #2 - Neal Washington is bitten by a werewolf, ironically his own father. While fleeing the creature, he ends up in the sewers and is rescued by an ancient looking man who claims to be the Guardian of Astegor. The Guardian bestows his powers on Neal, who becomes Photon.

    December 18th

  • Doc Sonic joins the Protectors, just in time to for her to help the group stop the murderous sprees of the monster known as Leech. Leech is rescued by the sorcerer whom he serves.

    1985

    January 16th

  • Terror, Inc. battles the South American team, the Victores, as they attempt to kidnap the President of Argentina. The villains are soundly defeated, but manage to escape with the aid of the false Spectrum created by Hexmaster.

    January 19th

  • Earthbrother and Aspen defeat the ReDirection Cartel's criminal operations in London.

    January 25th

  • Silver Arrow joins the Freedom League.

    February 1st

  • Lady Blue breaks into a warehouse of the Briar Chemicals company in San Francisco to expose illegal chemicals. The Protectors try and stop her, but in the ensuing battle, a worker is doused by the illegal chemicals and transformed into Hideous. Hideous knocks out Lady Blue and escapes with her into the woods.

    February 2nd

  • Hideous is driven out of the woods by a battle between Slug and Thunderbolt, who had accidentally ran into each other. The other villains are also driven away when Lady Blue awakens, angry. She has hunted Hideous ever since.

    February 5th

  • The Superior Seven begin operations in Dallas, Texas. Founders include Captain Lightning, Maverick, Sorceress, Titan, Centurian, Earthquake, and the Comet.

    February 10th

  • After a long series of chases throughout Central America, UNTIL agents finally capture the Geodesics.

    February 19th

  • The Circle, continuing their campaign against the entity Krim, defeat the Grandmaster, who is accidentally killed, and turns over the Stone Crown to PRIMUS for safekeeping.

    February 21st

  • The Marks Divorce hearings conclude. Citadel, a broken hero, his identity exposed during the trial, disappears from the public eye.

    February 24th

  • Scarlet Sabre #7 - The Freedom League and the Conquerors clash over an inactive Minuteman robot.

    February 28th

  • Eurostar attacks Sanctuary to get at the alien Enon. They are forced to retreat by the staff, the Champions (who were there at the time), and Euroguard, who had followed the villains to the resort. As a show of thanks, Enon builds a teleportation system linking Sanctuary Island to the United Nations Building in New York City.

    March 13th

  • Phobos and Deimos offer their services to Plunder.

    March 29th

  • In the aftermath of the Mark's Divorce, the Gold Coast Guardians disband.

    March 30th

  • Ladybug attacks Warhawk in Chicago, and humiliates him.

    April 4th

  • Earth-Brother, Aspen, Starline, Wintershade and Weather-Ring form the Nightwatch.

    April 15th

  • The Supreme Soviets attempt to destroy NORAD and are thwarted by the Avengers.

    April 17th

  • Warhawk leaves the Champions and retires from his superhero career to lead a normal life.

    June 3-5th

  • Troubleshooters #1-3 - Photon battles an unknown monster escaped from a strange portal.

    June 3rd

  • After leaving Utility as sworn enemies, the Whip joins with the members of GRAB for a major jewel heist in San Diego. The Protectors chase them down and imprison them all.

    June 4th

  • The Conquerors replace President Reagan with a mutant shapeshifter. Genocide detects the mutant in the White House, however, and their Minuteman Robots kill the mutant and severely wound Neutron, the group's leader.

    July 14th

  • Remover crashes on Earth and is taken to METE.

    August 22-24th

  • Troubleshooters #13-15 - Reporters Kari Donovan and Peter Ramsey search for the Purple Phlox and Kari ends up becoming the modern day Purple Phlox.

    August 28th

  • Brainstorm escapes from PSI, and becomes a crimefighter.

    August 30th

  • Assisted by Photon, the Avengers defeat a band of vampires living underneath New York City.

    September 4th

  • PRIMUS, lead by a Silver Avenger, attempt to gain entry to Sanctuary to apprehend Halfjack. They are stopped by the staff and the Protectors.

    September 13th

  • Mechanon opens a portal to an alternate Earth (referred to as Strike Force Earth), sending the unwitting Avar-7 there as a scout to discover if Mechanon has a counterpart on that alternate world. Mechanon added the ability to see what the android sees during his capture. Avar-7 battles the members of Strike Force individually, defeating them.

    September 14th

  • The Champions learn of Mechanon's plot and travel to Strike Force Earth, rescue the heroes, and defeat Avar-7. The Champions bring Avar-7 back to their Earth.

    October 10th

  • Mongoose and Black Mamba battle in Chicago when Mongoose attempts to stop COIL agents from stealing a priceless Egyptian statue of the god Set.

    October 12th

  • In another senseless act of violence, the Seven Horsemen attack an Albanian city, causing great damage.

    October 30th

  • PSI battles the Genocide Minutemen Robots in Los Angeles. The battle attracts the attention of the Freedom Squad and the Guardians forcing both to retreat.

    November 1st

  • The Remover leaves METE. He encounters Powershift and the two battle, but the Remover escapes capture.

    November 3rd

  • Feur joins Terror, Inc.

    November 5th

  • Genocide Minutemen raids continue all across the Western United States Coast. Many mutants are captured, heroes and villains alike. The real Spectrum is taken from Hexmaster's lair.

    November 6th

  • RAVEN tricks Firewing into attacking Sanctuary to kill the Champions, who are visiting there. He is defeated by the staff, the Champions, Freon, and Mind Titan. Firewing is banned from Sanctuary.

    November 7th

  • The false Spectrum abandons Terror, Inc., returning to Hexmaster.

    November 11th

  • Spectrum #1-4 - Spectrum encounters Icicle and Shadow Queen in Genocide's Arena. They encounter several imaginary threats and then later team up with the fellow mutants Brother Basilisk, Panda and Raccoon, Void, Mind Slayer, and Black Mamba. Realizing that they are trapped in some sort of "shared world", the plot to escape by overloading the system.

    November 12th

  • Spectrum #5 - The mutants free themselves and go their separate ways. Spectrum, Icicle, and Shadow Queen attempt to return to Los Angeles, but Hexmaster causes their plane to crash. Spectrum is captured by Hexmaster once more.

    November 20th

  • Troubleshooters #25 - While on a skiing Holiday in Aspen, the Enchantress and the Sorceress meet the Purple Phlox and battle the demon Ansara.

    November 23rd

  • The Avengers rescue numerous homeless people who had been kidnapped to be Thanksgiving dinner to the Saietta clan. The crime family is wiped out by rival criminal fractions with the exception for Roxie Saietta who swears revenge on the Avengers.

    December 24th

  • Blowtorch sets the National Christmas Tree in Washington, DC, ablaze. He is quickly defeated by the Capitol Patrol and the fire is extinguished.
