The Frontier # 78 - 79

The Frontier #78

The Seeker contingent that travels with Sharadin and Selinda finds the experience to be rather boring.

Upon reaching the Gatherer's Tomb, you discover the Elder Artifact has returned to his sarcophagus. Only the hole in his armor where Zynara's Acid Arrow hit reveals that it took any damage.

Not disturbing the Gatherer in any way, the two council members search the chamber. They diligently record the writing on the walls.

They also search the tunnels down the 3rd exit from the Gatherer's Tomb, the one the goblins used to get under Gateway. It's a maze of passages, but eventually opens up to the outside.

Having gathered all the data that they need, they lead you back to the surface and thank you for your assistance.

In Gateway itself, Armon and Arocken are out seeing the sights in the numerous taverns. Business is brisk as the winter season is approaching and Adventuring Companies are returning with regularity.

They notice are drawn to a place called The Golden Lute. Inside, a young songstress, Leone by name, holds the crowd in the spell of her song.

According to a sign it is talent night in the tavern, all bards welcome!

Validar receives a message that same day. It is a response to the first letter he sent six weeks ago.

In brief is relays that life back at the Baron is dull, nothing like the tales he sent in his first letter. The Baron and Baroness are fine. His sister, Rachel, has begun practicing with the longsword. She says that she'll give her big brother a run for his money in a few years.

At the library, Claudius, Zynara and Padraig compare spells and do some swapping.

Zynara's new spells: Alter Self, Color Spray, Knock, Magic Mouth, Spectral hand, Mirror Image. Also, according to my notes you know Bind.

Pad's new spells: Know Alignment, Wizard Lock, Detect Evil, Darkness 15' Radius, Audible Glamer, Light, Mending, Ventriloquism.

The following is a list of the remainder of spells. Those available, but not known by either Claudius or Zynara:

1st Level: Affect Normal Fires, Change Self, Comprehend Languages, Hold Portal, Phantasmal Force

2nd Level: Fool's Gold, Leomund's Trap, Scare

3rd Level: Fireball, Lightning Bolt, Melf's Minute Meteors, Secret Page, Snapping Teeth

4th Level: Confusion, Create Darkenbeast, Dispel Illusion, Enchant Weapon, Halo of Eyes, Magic Mirror

GM Notes:

Next week, updated XP's and the decision of the council!

Also, time to start thinking about what you guys and gals are going to do next. It is approximately the 3rd week of August. You probably have 5-6 weeks of good weather left before winter hits. Assuming that you are going to participate in the war, then you have until March to prepare. Tentative plans call for the army to begin March as winter breaks. The Armies destination is New Keln, approximately 400 miles to the South West.

Pad, information on the Hextorites is in the datafile. If you have any further questions, post'm! :)

SUBJ: Padraig FROM: GM Shifty 02/07/91 S#: 802798

(I read the file, Mad. I was just role-playing the character, giving him a reason to know what I read. ];> )

Pad is intrigued at some of the spells that turn up in the library. "I've never even heard of these spells!" he exclaims. Naturally, he begins diligently attempting to learn them.

Pad will attempt to learn, in order: Create Darkenbeast, Halo of Eyes, Secret Page, Snapping Teeth, Leomund's Trap, Fools' Gold, Comprehend Languages, Change Self, Phantasmal Force, and Affect Normal Fires.

After finishing up in the library, Pad will go talk with Sharadin again. "I've been looking for a particular spell for a while. I wonder if you might know it? The spell is Wizard Eye. I'll be glad to trade you any spell from my books that you don't happen to know in exchange for it."

SUBJ: Arocken (R) FROM: Wildchilde 02/08/91 S#: 437484

"Come Armon, this looks to be just the place for us." Arocken will clap his new companion on the back and bid him to enter the new establishment.

They will move towards a table near the songstress, after a small while Arocken will speak, "Come my friend let us enjoy some of your songs!"

As the night progresses Arocken will tell Armon everything that has happened since he joined the group, The attack on the Hextorite temple, the attack on the foul creature attacking gateway, the time spent within the rod of security dimension, How he came to acquire his ring of regeneration....etc.

SUBJ: Wistful Finrod... FROM: SGT STONEY 02/08/91 S#: 508205

Ah, Me... all these spells flying about, and me separated from my Character Sheets by about 800 miles...

::Sigh::

As to what we are to do, Finrod opines that he is interested in a return to the ruined town where the Dragon was slain... there is doubtless more to be learned, there, and we left companions [NPC's] there who should be greeted and allowed to choose to come to gateway if they care to do so...

"Hey, Steph... Let's have a scholarship set up in our name to help aspiring Fighters get proper training in the Arts of Sword and Bow, as a tribute to the Strong, Biting, and Accurate Nature of Our Love. Whadda 'ya think, love?"

--Finrod Fasthand

Steph's Wrestling Partner

;)

SUBJ: Claudius.. FROM: GM Falcon 02/09/91 S#: 802759

"I wasn't implying..", the mage replies to Pad, a bit miffed, "that your books weren't your property, and that I could open them at will, I wouldn't dream of it. Simply that I got my head bit off when *I* suggested swapping once upon a time."

He will withdraw slightly, a bit injured, while finding out if what his mentor told him about spell limits is true or not. When the idea about returning to the "dragon-town" as he calls it comes up, he'll nod. "Yes, let's go back... Maybe we'll find some more clues as to our gruesome friends."

SUBJ: Padraig (R) FROM: GM Shifty 02/09/91 S#: 520921

"You misunderstood the tone of my cautionary note, Claudius. It was merely a friendly word of warning from one more versed in the Arts to one who may not have heard of the lengths to which most mages NORMALLY go to protect the sanctity of their spell books." ];>

"Dragons? Interesting creatures. I've only seen 3, and only talked with one of those. I wonder if they're as nasty here as they were on my world?"

"By the way, how's your troll problem here about? I've had lots of experience with trolls. They're such a fun adversary to fight. All the different types of them, each with its own weaknesses and strengths. They really keep you on your toes."

SUBJ: Armon Flamehilt FROM: Omni Tuens 02/09/91 S#: 471779

Armon goes along happily with Arocken, happy to be out on the town with a companion of good cheer. When they enter the tavern, he cheers Leone dutifully, listening to her tune with interest. At Arocken's suggestion, and his own inclination, he decides to try a tune of his own....making up the words as he goes along (aka as I type). After waiting for others to finish, he draws his mandolin and starts to work.

There once was a Queen,
with a fool of a King,
So dim he would fight any foe;
For at any jest,
he'd challenge the best,
And off to the battle he'd go.

The Fool King had his fight,
and lost by all right,
For his foe was a Knight of
Great Skill;
Now captive of his foe,
the Fool King had much woe-
His Royal Queen the Knight said
he would kill!

The Queen was distraught,
for fear she be caught,
Yet no warrior would champion
her cause;
Lest the Evil Knight best her,
she ordered her court jester,
And the Jester vowed to guard her
without pause.

Undaunted was Evil Knight,
at this sorry sight,
For no man dare challenge him
to his face;
Yet Sir Jester made a pun,
and while Sir Knight made fun,
Clever Jester struck his head
with a mace!

So Evil Knight was slain,
and Royal Queen saved pain,
And Fool King returned home to
rule;
He found King Jester instead,
and all the Queen said,
Was 'He's truer king, you better the Fool!'

GM Notes:

Pad happily jots down the notes for several new spells from the Seekers collective spellbooks. List of spells he was able to learn:

Affect Normal Fires, Change Self, Comprehend Languages, Create Darkenbeast, Fool's Gold, Halo of Eyes, Leomund's Trap, Phantasmal Force, Secret Page, Snapping Teeth

When asked, Sharadin replies that he does indeed have Wizard Eye. He and Pad proceed to talk. The two enter Sharadin's private quarters and do not reappear for several hours.

Fin, when Cereld, Araduin and Dar all become NPC's, I sent them back to the ruins to aid Jason and his friends. They were not forgotten about. :)

The crowd responds to Armon's effort with great enthusiasm and applause. After things quite down, Leone comes over to your table.

"Well played, friend. A most interesting tale indeed!"

SUBJ: Blue Crystal FROM: Beholder 02/09/91 S#: 796951

Seeing that most of the Mage PC's are in wonder at the strange (??) spells. I will sit (kneel) and pray to the god of disease for successful spells until the Party moves along for more important matters.

SUBJ: Zynara FROM: Zynara 02/10/91 S#: 465762

When Pad shows me the third level spells he has, I smile and ask to learn some of them. (Dispel Magic, Explosive Runes, Hold Undead, Item, Water Breathing, and Wraithform)

I then go to work with my new spell Magic Mouth. I will cast it first on my spell books then I will start casting it on a few specific items to protect such items from theft. I will also get a few rocks and cast the spell on them.

(Spell Books: Activate when anyone but me opens the book without saying, "He is my mother's brother's, grandmother's, father's sister's grandfather." The book will speak, "You do not have permission to use me. Continue at own risk. This is your one and only warning to return the book.")

(Pouch I keep my money in while in town: Activate when someone other than myself opens the pouch. Pouch will speak, "Help! I am being kidnapped by a thief! Please rescue me and return me to mistress Zynara! Help! Help! I am being stolen!")

(Silver dagger from wedding: Activate when someone other than Blod or myself handles the dagger. Dagger will speak: Same as pouch.)

(5 stones: Activate when the stone has come to a stop after being thrown or tossed. Stone will speak: "Hey ugly! Yes I am talking to you. Just don't stand there. Come and find me. You do hear me? Right?")

GM Notes:

Zynara has added Dispel Magic, Hold Undead, Water Breathing and Wraithform to her spellbook.

SUBJ: Stephanie

Bored, bored, bored. That's the only way to describe Steph's feelings while down visiting Tin Britches. At one point she thinks about whacking him, just for some excitement, but fortunately decides against it.

"Trolls? Afraid not Padraig. We have yet to encounter one. They most not be much of a problem."

"Fin? A mercenary part with money? Are you feeling well?"

"I'm all in favor in just resting until spring. We just completed a several month trek our first year here, plus much has happened since our return. Let's take some time off and relax. Then it's slice and dice Hexes in the spring time!" :D

SUBJ: Vonte FROM: Vonte 02/12/91 S#: 432853

After returning to the party, and hearing of the upcoming war upon New Keln: "Upon what grounds will war be made on New Keln?? War is unnecessary because there is no reason sound enough to cause such damage upon the lands as war does!? I detest war because of its utter destruction of the lands!" After listening to the reasoning, I shall reach a decision as to participate or NOT.

Spectrum's Comments: As you might imagine, that went over really well with the players. It also ties in with my comments when this character first appeared that he didn't bother to look into the game background. Granted, he still might have felt that a war was unnecessary, but at least he would have had background info as to why it was going to happen.

SUBJ: FINROD (R) FROM: SGT STONEY 02/12/91 S#: 506654

Finrod listens with growing disbelief and rising ire to Vonte's ravings. His fists clench and unclench and any who look can see the thoughts behind the ice-blue eyes... eventually, with much struggle to control himself, Fin speaks.

"All my life I have trained and studied and practiced and participated in warfare. I Worship Sacred Steel for its qualities so essential to success in battle. Whenever I do not seek out fights, they come and find me. I will not abide such vile insane ravings in my presence! Were you not already admitted to this fellowship, I would see your blood flow on the stone of this floor, that I might judge it's color, which would no doubt flow as saffron and sickly as your mind! But I will not soil the bond of our Seekers with such slaying. I deem you are not worthy of the stains on our group and our flagstones. Good Day!"

And the lithe Elven Mercenary departs in a rush, gathering his cloak about him and nearly knocking the door from its hinges in his sudden departure.

SUBJ: Mercy FROM: Mastiff1 02/12/91 S#: 408115

Mercy sits back and listens as Vonte goes on. Then he listens to Finrod go at Vonte. When Finrod leaves, Mercy will smile and confront Vonte. "It seem that your Wisdom has taken a leave of absence, when you speak out against warfare, when there is a number of Fighter present within the Seekers. I myself am a Fighter and very proud of it. Just some advise from a brother Cleric, Know when to voice your opinions, and NEVER insult a friend."

Mercy will clap Vonte on the back and smile, "I'm still your friend." He will leave to go see Pad to learn that wonderfully strange language (Drow) from him.

SUBJ: Padraig FROM: GM Shifty 02/12/91 S#: 514222

When Pad hears Vonte's comment, he speaks, "Nothing is that black and white, my friend. Too often are the decisions we make in this life composed of tones of gray. War definitely causes damage, but it is often necessary."

"I come from a world that was shredded by decades of war. The last few years of it saw whole countries laid to waste by vile beasts and magicks. Baulgruel even opened a gate onto the Elemental Plane of Fire and burnt the entire Elven Forest to the ground with it."

"Yet, we warred against him. In our last battle we unleashed a form of anti-magic that destroyed not only every magic item and spell within hundreds of miles, but killed any creature of magical nature as well. A horrible thing if perchance a unicorn, faerie, or some other noble creature was left within that area. But, if it hadn't been done, Baulgruel and his hordes of trolls, drow, and magical monstrosities would have gone on to destroy every semblance of Nature on the planet."

"I am as much a warrior as any fighter here. I was raised to combat Baulgruel's evil purposes. Never say that war is evil or unjustified. Life just isn't that simple. Hear the reasons before you condemn the act."

Pad will spend an hour or so a day teaching Mercy the basics of the language of the drow on his world.

"Whether this is the same language they use here, I cannot say."

SUBJ: Armon (R) FROM: Omni Tuens 02/12/91 S#: 837443

Armon smiles at Leone as he catches his breath, pleased at the response to his performance.

"Thank you very much, Leone... How could I not fair well when I had your song to inspire me? Truly, yours was the finer art worked this night. May I buy you a drink? Shall we...trade some stories, mayhaps a tune or two?"

The young bard tends to drift ahead of himself, always quickly absorbed into a conversation.

SUBJ: VALIDAR FROM: Bl Panther 02/12/91 S#: 841476

Once the discussion of the Seekers turns to the subject of war, Validar's attention is easily grabbed. He is obviously surprised however when he sees the way the discussion turns. War? Unnecessary?

Validar will allow the others to make their feelings felt before speaking up, but it is obvious that he has some very strong feelings about this topic. The noble warrior then proceeds to present his case.

"I think that it is fairly clear where my personal stance on the subject at hand lies. My father is the Baron of Pyris. He himself fought in the Great Keln Wars alongside General Logan and many other great warriors. From the moment I was able to walk I was being trained in the arts of warfare. War and battle are like meat and drink to me. I find it almost an alien thought to place the words WAR and UNNECESSARY together."

"War is most definitely necessary in the lands we live in. Perhaps somewhere there is an idealistic society where men do not take up arms against each other, but it is clearly far from our beloved Cynalon. Had this war never been started the forces of evil would have overrun this kingdom. Explain to me how that would be better than this bizarre idea you speak."

"There is simply no way to lay down our arms and allow the Keln Empire to reform itself. Cynalon and Keln have been at war as long as any can remember and longer still. Keln is a land of foul and wicked monsters, and ruled by men who are worse still. The Hextorites are as formidable and treacherous a foe as any you may wish to confront. And you speak about refusing to do battle with such evil? Astounding!"

Validar pauses for a moment, allowing his mouth to catch up with his racing thoughts.

"I could continue on and on about the reasons that this war must be conducted. But there is no reason to justify it to you or anyone. We are going to war against a kingdom of monsters, who would sooner torture and maim every last citizen of this kingdom. Let end with this: Anyone who does not oppose the threat of evil is contributing to it themselves. If you are indeed opposed to our battle, then you have no place with the Seekers."

"What is your decision?"

SUBJ: Claudius.. FROM: GM Falcon 02/13/91 S#: 433896

Claudius will listen to the ongoing debate on warfare, and stalk to the cleric icily.

"Aye..", he hisses, "Warfare is regrettable, but necessary. Consider this, my obviously young friend."

"I am a scholar. Though I specialize in offensive (invocation) magic I would not have minded much if war had never touched me. Then I was captured by Hextorites."

"They gave me a drug to subvert my mind, but at the last I broke free as these people were battling to free prisoners they had taken."

"We came back to find Gateway under siege. They used those same chemicals to try and subvert our leaders to their will. Chemical warfare."

"No, the Kelns started it. I'm not sure how I feel about crushing them, but bringing the war to their soil doesn't bother me one bit."

"I stand with Validar. If you can't support what we MUST do, perhaps you should go elsewhere than a band of warriors. A quiet cloister on the far end of Cynalon perhaps. I'll join you once this is finished once and for all."

SUBJ: Stephanie FROM: Schar 02/13/91 S#: 798238

::groans, fearing that Readen has been reincarnated::

"Aye, they speak the truth, Vonte. If you had seen the horrors that they have brought upon the innocent, then you would have not needed to ask that question. They are evil and must be removed from the face of the land. There cannot be any other way."

"I stand solidly with the others. The Seekers will aid in their downfall. I pray only that no Seekers fall in this battle. We have lost too many good people to these scum."

Spectrum's Comments: No, Steph never forgot about that infamous druid.

SUBJ: Vonte FROM: Vonte 02/13/91 S#: 435690

After hearing all that has hurling at me, I will sit for a moment and absorb the fall-out of the comments directed like daggers towards my person.

"I agree in one point, Defense of one's own lands is one thing starting a war for some another is not OK."

I respect all your opinions for the world holds many, but isn't this a democratic party...each member has a right to offer his own opinion to the party for the decisions to be made??? "I feel it is only fair that you allow me this freedom to request information about this war, without making death threats against me!!! And that is just what I asked for INFORMATION as to that war as been declared... I was not raised, in the temple, for mindless slaughter like most of the party. Kill for the sake of killing

If it is in defense, then War is inevitable, and is just. Speaking of the innocent, do you feel Man (humanoids) are the only intelligent life on this planet???

:::looking to Thundron for some support:::

Ehlonna teaches us that if man wants to kill each other that is their business, but WAR does not only include the warring parties, it includes the surrounding ecological system. Why should the peaceful animals die, because Man decides it is their time??? The only creatures to benefit man's (women's, humanoids too) wars are the buzzards and worms. But more creatures give up(more like are taken from them) their lives because of a warring faction, the animals benefit nothing. THAT is to whom my defense is made.

SUBJ: VALIDAR FROM: Bl Panther 02/14/91 S#: 834265

"I understand your desire for information, Vonte. However, I think that you may have come off in a high-handed moralistic sense with your particular tone. With a party as large and diverse as this, there are bound to be disagreements in viewpoints. This was not the last argument that the Seekers have engaged in, nor the last, I fear."

"It is my opinion also that you overstated your concerns. There are not many opportunities for a war to be dangerous for nature when one is doing battle by sword and lance. Unless one is particularly poor in their skill. Even the most devastating wizard magicks are not near so strong in the potential for destruction as nature itself in the form of a hurricane, or lightning storm, or flood."

"Still you must live by your own conscience and no others. The Seekers have flourished in the past by examining all viewpoints and combining them intelligently. But most importantly, we thrive on teamwork and the knowledge that we can count on every single member in a life and death situation. That is the decision that each of us made when we decided to ride together."

@ = Beginning Mage spells for the Bard: Friends, Phantasmal Force, Protection from Evil.

Everyone functions as his or her new level in all aspects. Some of you will have to update your spell lists.

As the Seekers discuss their options for the months ahead, Vonte brings up the subject if the war is necessary, setting the stage for a large debate.

Elsewhere at the Golden Lute, Armon and Arocken share a drink with the Bard Leone.

"Yes, a drink would be nice. Help's the parched throat. Swap stories? I'm always looking for more stories for my repertoire. I'd look forward to such discussions. So, how long have you been in Gateway?"

Next day, the Council informs you of their decision concerning the Gatherer. For the time being, the tunnels will be sealed. The Gatherer will remain undisturbed. The appropriate magical alarms will be set into place in case he should awaken. The tunnel to the outside will also be sealed.

[The feeling here is that it will act as sort of a guard in case any others attempt to enter the city via the underground tunnels. Perhaps the intruders will activate the Gatherer accidentally, effectively sealing their own fate.]

GM Notes:

As last post, decide on your course of action. Rest for the winter or take in one last adventure before the end of summer.

Whichever you decide upon, I would rather it would be as a group. It would be unfair to those who do not go to sit on the sidelines for those weeks.

SUBJ: Padraig (R) FROM: GM Shifty 02/14/91 S#: 848378

Pad listens to the discussion of what to do before winter and says, "Personally, I'd like to get out and see a little of your world's wildlife before settling down for a few months of enforced inactivity. I vote we find a little something to do before winter."

If the party decides to stay in town and wait for spring, Pad will more or less disappear into Sharadin's house for long periods of time.

***The following will take place ONLY if Armon asks to learn a spell from Pad's book***

Pad will shake his head and say, "No offense, Armon, but I can't allow that. I know the Seekers have adopted this policy of 'open spellbooks' from somewhere, but I cannot let you have access to my books. It's not a personal thing; it's a rule of my cabal. They believe that people who dabble in magic do more harm than good. We are strictly forbidden to allow anyone but a true mage access to our books. I hope you can get what you want from the others."

Pad will once again make his spell book available for those who have just learned to use 3rd list magicks. As well as the ones previously posted, the following have been added from various sources. (I can't recall off the top of my head that are not from party members, so it's easiest just to post all the new additions to my books.)

1st List Affect Normal Fires, Audible Glamer, Change Self, Comprehend Languages, Light, Mending, Message, Phantasmal Force, Shocking Grasp, Ventriloquism

2nd List Darkness 15' Radius, Detect Evil, Fools' Gold, Improved Phantasmal Force, Know Alignment, Leomund's Trap, Strength, Wizard Lock

3rd List Leomund's Tiny Hut, Secret Page, Snapping Teeth, Spectral Force

Pad will ask for a suite of rooms to be assigned to him in the Seeker's mansion. He will then warn everyone that he is laying out certain magical defenses around his rooms. Everyone will be warned never to enter his rooms except in his presence.

SUBJ: Claudius FROM: GM Falcon 02/15/91 S#: 818468

First, Claud will attempt to learn the following, either from a party member or research:

(Invocation) Fireball, Lightning Bolt, Melf's Minute Meteors - Will do anything to get these spells...multiple copies and so on.

(High priority) Explosive Runes, Dispel Magic

(Other) Clairaudience, Clairvoyance, Illusionary Script, Prot/Evil 10'

* If Explosive Runes learned, will entrap spellbook--anyone but me opening it.

* If Illusionary Script learned, will entrap spellbook--anyone looking at the writing (pg 1) will close the book and forget it exists.

Claudius will break off from the Great Debate long enough to let it be known that he votes to go out one last time before summer breaks, again to the 'dragon village' to see what happened.

Back to the debate, Claudius will speak: "Aye, you have the right to speak Vonte, but again: They started it, and now we have a chance to finish it and bring peace to the land once and for all. That is where I stand."

SUBJ: Armon Flamehilt FROM: Omni Tuens 02/15/91 S#: 812804

The bard, being elsewhere with a new friend, is oblivious to the arguement....

"Oh, I've been drifting in and out of the city for a month or more now.... only recently I joined the Seekers, though. They seem a friendly enough bunch, even if they are a little reckless with spells..." He lets out a nervous laugh at this.

"So tell me of yourself...are you in Gateway often? Or this fine establishment, more particularly?"

Armon, on following nights, will make time to revisit this particular tavern...either oblivious to the debate over adventuring or camping through the winter, or indifferent (most likely).

SUBJ: GM Notes: FROM: GM Mad 02/15/91 S#: 460018

Claudius adds Fireball, Lightning Bolt, Melf's Minute Meteors, Explosive Runes, Clairaudience and Dispel Magic to his spell book. The other spells are currently beyond his understanding. ;)

SUBJ: Vonte 1 FROM: Vonte 02/16/91 S#: 797671

After much thinking..."I must seek another member of my Beliefs seeking assistance in this matter."

"I must leave the party for now, but I will return in a few days with my answer as to remain with the group and fight in the upcoming War or to leave."

"If I must be found I will be with the High-Priestess Lara in the neighboring forests."

So long for now, and may peace be with you! :)

I will pack my equipment, and leave for Lara's Domain. Hoping to find the piece of mind I am in search of!

SUBJ: Thundron FROM: Dark2 02/16/91 S#: 521335

After repairing my weapon, I will avoid the great debate of war for a bit. I head toward the forest for a fortnight of fasting and contemplation on my own to determine if it is my deities' wishes for the war to take place. After that time has passed, I will return and offer my opinion on the matter.

SUBJ: GM Notes: FROM: GM Mad 02/16/91 S#: 485992

Armon - Leone replies back. "I'm attached to a different group working for the Crown. The Wanders, perhaps you've heard of them? When not out with them, I hang around Gateway. The Golden Lute is my favorite resting spot."

Also, Vonte, you may have misunderstood one point of our conversation. Lara is not a high priestess of Ehlonna, just a couple of levels higher then yourself.

There is no temple to Ehlonna in this area. Lara is an adventurer attached to a different group, the same group as Leone in fact, the Wanderers.

You located her at a favorite gathering place of elves, rangers and Ehlonna priests, The Green Forest, a tavern. :)

Spectrum's Comments: Just a hint at some stuff I did with Vonte online in a chat room. It was the fastest way to handle the situation.

SUBJ: Arocken FROM: Wildchilde 02/16/91 S#: 511022

When the topic of participating in the war comes up Arocken speaks "I say we join the crusade. I shall not rest until all the lands are rid of evil!"

(Is he really that good of an elf, or just a little adventure hungry? I'd opt for the latter)

SUBJ: Zynara (R) FROM: Zynara 02/16/91 S#: 812020

When the debate about war comes about, I leave the area not offering any comments on my part.

A little later I will go find my husband.

"Blod. I have this funny feeling things are changing. Before winter sets in, can you get the group to go out one more time on some sort of adventure? My brothers and I wanted to adventure as much as we could til we settled down. We also hoped to have enough gold so we wouldn't ever have to worry about money as we raised our children. Please for me, get the group to go out at least one more time before winter sets in."

SUBJ: Vonte 2 FROM: Vonte 02/16/91 S#: 472407

I must have misunderstood (again) Gm Mad Even though She is not the high- priestess she is a true believer in the ways of Ehlonna, and her advice would be much to my advantage.

Upon arriving at the Tavern-in the-Woods I will inquire as to whom Lara is. After the barmaid/mate points her out, I will move towards the table that she is at.

"Lara, Priestess of Ehlonna???" if she acknowledges my existence: "May I have a moment of your time, Please??"

If she will give me an audience, I will explain the problem, and hope that she can help.( I will also apologize for being so intrusive)

With the advice (already provided by Gm Mad) seated in my head, I will return to the "Seekers" Manor.

By the way, Gm Mad has informed me all who were in need of Healing (before I left town) has received it with the blessings of Ehlonna!

I will address Validar as Party Leader.

"Dear Sir, I have spoken to another Priestess of Ehlonna. And She has helped me see through the dimness of my perceptions of the War with New Keln.I wish to serve the party the best way I can, and that way is to accompany the party in the upcoming war. If the party sees fit to allow me to continue being a "Seeker"?"

Addressed to the party members present:

" I am sorry for the comments that I had made earlier, about the War and "some" of the party members, I did not truly know of the destructions the New Kelners had put upon the world. Hopefully, you will allow me to continue to serve as a Cleric to the Seekers?"

"What say Ye?"

Spectrum's Comments: I don't really recall what Lara told Vonte, but suffice it probably was something along the lines of that the enemy would do a great deal of damage to the woodlands and those who live in it if left unchecked.

SUBJ: VALIDAR (R) FROM: Bl Panther 02/16/91 S#: 801112

First of all, a comment to Padraig,

"The Seekers may indeed be housed in a mansion, but it is not all that the words may inspire to the mind. The crown provided our adventuring band with a quite weathered, modest structure that we have since managed to enhance in our individual and personal manners. It was only upon our recent return to Gateway after the seige that we employed any of the servants, except for the Calhous family. In short, we can offer you a some-what furnished room, but there simply are no "suites". Most of the gathering and relaxation chambers are open to all members of the Seekers."

One the subject of an adventure between know and the coming of winter:

"Since everyone who has offered an opinion on the matter seems to be in favor of one last adventure for the year, I have a suggestion for the basis of this expedition. Those of you who were there should well remember the door that was found at the back of the dragon's den. As we were unable to enter at the time, its contents continue to remain a mystery."

"For those of you who have joined us since then, this edifice was found in the back of a green dragon's den that we battled at a ruined orcish stronghold, during our skirmish with the Hextorite forces. I would imagine that this should prove an adequate test of our abilities. Assuming, of course, that our newest mage has some sort of magicks which will allow us to bypass that door. The use of force was strictly futile."

Finally, Validar will address Vonte upon his return....

"As leader of the Seekers, it would be my right to allow you to rejoin our band of adventurers. However, as this is a somewhat diplomatic grouping of individuals, the matter must be taken up amongst all the party members."

"Therefore, I am putting it up to a general vote of all party members."

Anyone who wishes to make their opinion felt on this subject can either post it or send me mail. Anyone who does not respond by closing of this post will be considered to have abstained in this matter.

SUBJ: Armon (R) FROM: Omni Tuens 02/17/91 S#: 488436

"I'm afraid I don't know much of the Wanderers....is your group questing after anything in particular? Do you have any opinion on the upcoming war?"

Armon doesn't register an opinion on Vonte, as he's been out and around too much to be aware Vonte had ever left the Seekers.

SUBJ: Claudius.. FROM: GM Falcon 02/17/91 S#: 397171

Claudius, a bit gung ho about his new *Explosive Runes* spell, well enchant the door to his room to explode if anyone but he opens the door, or fails to say the pass-phrase "He who SEEKS shall surely find.

In the gathering/meeting room he will listen to Validar's proposals, then look at Vonte, then back.

"It would be wrong to shun a man for expressing his beliefs. My comments on leaving were mainly because we WOULD be in the war, and he may not wish to participate. I'm pleased that he does. I vote yea, let him stay."

He will turn back to his spellbooks and anything the library may have allowed him to borrow (doubtful, but still), and study, pausing to fit a pair of glass-like lenses attached to steel rims over his eyes and on his nose. (Read- spectacles)

When Validar's suggestion comes up, he speaks: "I don't remember that, but I don't think I EVER saw the dragon's den, and I was pretty much out anyhow. Aye, we can try and go back."

Spell list- Gateway

3) Lightning Bolt, Explosive Runes

Spelllist- On the move

SUBJ: Stephanie FROM: Schar 02/17/91 S#: 477539

After a time I grew tired of the discussions of war and head out towards the kitchen.

Later when the subject of heading out again is brought up, I respond when asked.

"Aye, perhaps one last fling would be nice. Count me in I guess. I have no problems having Vonte around."

SUBJ: Thundron FROM: Dark2 02/18/91 S#: 420320

I of course vote yes to allowing Vonte to return even though I don't remember him even leaving or why. Maybe I should read the posts more carefully.....

I'm in for one more adventure before winter!

SUBJ: Armon Flamehilt FROM: Omni Tuens 02/18/91 S#: 839905

"It has been a pleasure talking with you, Leone. I promise I shall send word to you if we uncover anything the Gatherers may find useful." Armon smiles as he rises from the table. "I fear I had best return to the Seekers, or I shall be excluded from something of importance. Would you mind sending word to me occasionally, mentioning anything of interest you discover?"

SUBJ: FINROD (R) FROM: SGT STONEY 02/19/91 S#: 449085

The steel-cult warrior has kept his own counsel these last few days since storming out in the argument with Vonte.. He goes out early in the morning, and returns only to spend the evening and night with his Lovely Wife.

When questioned, he merely says, "Been catching up on my reading, is all...", and shrugs.

He is very careful to make sure that Steph knows his exact whereabouts while he is away from her side... he remembers how his father made the mistake of not keepin' his mother informed, and ended up single... ;)

On the subject of Vonte, The steel-eyed Elven Mercenary again shrugs his shoulders. "I believe I am on record about him. He is of use to the party, and increases my Lady-Wife's chances of living through combat. I will tolerate his presence, else I would have spilled his blood that very night."

GM Mad: This time is spent sequestered all day in the library perusing that certain volume of Mage-lore...

Can't think of a better time to use it than right now. :)

SUBJ: Padraig (R) FROM: GM Shifty 02/19/91 S#: 394920

"I have nothing against Vonte's joining. Everyone is free to speak his or her mind, just as everyone else is free to slap down any silliness that anyone else spouts off. Since he has decided that his ethics will allow him to work with us, I see no reason to bar him."

SUBJ: Arocken FROM: Wildchilde 02/19/91 S#: 410656

"I agree, He has done nothing wrong and should be considered a Seeker!"

When Validar mentions the door Arocken speaks up.

"I must disagree Validar, The Keln Empire could be forming as we speak to crush our very existence, If we strike now we can eliminate them as a threat for sometime, Surely a warrior such as yourself knows the value of a well timed attack, and I think now is such the time."

SUBJ: VALIDAR FROM: Bl Panther 02/19/91 S#: 850414

"I can understand your zealousness, Arocken. However, to strike at true blow at the Keln Empire will require substantially more power than the Seekers can assemble. The blows we have dealt them are suitable to stem their growing tide at this time. After all, did they not cancel the great sacrifice they had planned? Clearly, they are in a time of recovery. Besides with the winter closing in and the distance required to travel between even this remote outpost and the Keln capital, any attack in force would be thwarted by the cold and snow."

"We will engage in the War come spring. Everyone will be suitably prepared by then for a true assault. In the meantime, we can use our brief interlude for some personal gain and satisfaction."

SUBJ: Claudius... FROM: GM Falcon 02/21/91 S#: 434993

"I agree, Arocken..", the mage speaks, "..with Validar."

"I don't mind giving my life for a cause, but not stupidly. I don't propose our small group take on the Keln army, thank you."

Spectrum's Comments: Next time: The Seekers head out on one last adventure before the onset of winter.
