Known Powers:

The Scarlet Sabre is a young woman who was altered due to an accident. While working late one night on a project to directly connect the human mind to a computer network, lightning struck the building. For a brief instant, a transference took place between the two. Jessica assumed some of the aspects of a computer. She can process information at frightening speeds, do complex mathematics in her head, has a photographic memory, and is unnaturally quick and agile. The computer system adopted human traits becoming an independent cyber entity that calls itself Jaime. Jessica and Jaime are psychically linked and each can see through the senses of the other. There appears to be no limit on how far apart Jessica and Jaime can be and still be in communication. Jaime can even provide hard copies of what Scarlet sees and hears.

In addition, Jessica was an Olympic level gymnast who made the 1980 team, narrowly edging out a rival, Helena Kirby, who would one day become the Huntress. Jess was naturally ambidextrous and double-jointed. After the accident and growing more comfortable with the existence of Jaime, Jessica decided to become a crime fighter under the guise of the Scarlet Sabre. She constructed a lightsabre similar to the ones from the Star Wars movies, essentially a handle that projected a scarlet magnetic field whose properties she could alter with a touch. The sabre can be made razor thin and is capable of slicing through steel in this form. Or it can be shaped into a blunt force that can be used as a club or to reflect incoming attacks. Lastly, it can be used to latch on to metallic surfaces and used as a sort of climbing/swinging line. Scarlet is skilled in hand to hand combat with or without her sabre. Other gadgets in the Scarlet Sabre's arsenal include a hand-held sonar device, an alpha wave generator that deflects the force of mental attacks, and a short duration force field belt. Scarlet's body suit is made out of a type of reinforced Kevlar. Her best known accessory is the Sky Sabre, a small two man mini-jet that she uses as her main mode of transportation.

Notes:

The Scarlet Sabre was another member of the ill-fated New York Hero team known as the Crusaders, formed by the Crusader. She was invited to join after proving pivotal in a battle between the Crusaders and the Ultimates. The Crusaders were a volatile group that the vigilante tactics of Crusader and Copperhead tore apart. After the team split up, Scarlet was approached by Microwave, an employee of the wealthy industrialist Sheryl Campbell, owner and CEO of Campbell Industries International. Sheryl was interested in putting together a hero team that would be supported by CII. The Freedom League would be a team of scientific minded heroes who would be free to pursue their own individual projects unhindered by the constraints of trying to work a normal job and fighting crime. Scarlet accepted and brought Radiance and the Speedster with her from the defunct Crusaders. Together with Microwave and FIST, they founded the Freedom League.

Jessica had been studying to be a computer engineer when the accident that created the Scarlet Sabre happened. Since that time she has mastered several other fields with frightening speed. Among these include aeronautics and physics. Jessica Flynn is known as a respected scientist in the computer field, having several breakthroughs to her credit.

In spite of being a member of the Freedom League, Scarlet primarily works alone or teams up with other heroes. She has shared adventures with both the Huntress and Muskateer. Scarlet took part in the Assault of the Heroes in response to the Great Supervillain Contest and was seriously wounded by the hordes of Shadow Demons.

Working for CII interests on Los Angeles, Scarlet has teamed up with Morning Star and Shockwave and battled Terror Unlimited. Once back in New York, Scarlet investigated a break in at CII and later teamed up with the Huntress against the Dragon Lords. She also assisted Muskateer when Tyler Labs was attacked by Fuergeson the Great and assisted in the apprehension of the White Dragon.

Jessica has accepted the position of Director of Operations within CII. She'll now personally oversee such CII interests as Tyler Labs and the partnership with LawTech. As part of her new position, Jessica now has gained the services of a personal assistant: Tom Braden. She has also met a CII Contract Manager by the name of Kyle Sherwood and has agreed to go on a date with him.

Fuergeson the Great has taken a personal interest in Jessica Flynn, considering her to the his ideal mate with her technical skills and looks. First he tried to kidnap Jessica by using a small army of robots, but they were driven off/destroyed by the CII security robots and members of the Freedom League. Later, he attempted to kidnap Jess while at a press conference announcing the new HE 4000 computer system with the Lore 3000 processing chip. Microwave and a new hero calling himself Starguard thwarted Feurgeson in that attemp. Mysteriously, Starguard claimed that Jessica Flynn was under his personal protection.

Jessica's date with Kyle went very well and she's beginning to fall in love with him. While the couple were departing Tyler Labs, Fuergeson's robots picked up Kyle's car and flew away with it. The pair were gassed and fell into unconciousness. Later, Jessica awoke in Fuergeson's lair where he was going to force her to marry him. At a severe disadvantage and concerned with Kyle's safety, Jessica reluctantly agreed.

Once more, Starguard pulled off a last second rescue and teleported Jessica to safety. He claimed that as long as Jessica was innocent that she had nothing to fear and would require his personal protection. Just what Starguard meant by this is unknown. The mystery hero departed before he could answer any further questions, leaving Jessica more confused than ever.

Jessica grew up on her parents (Henry & Blanche Flynn) farm in Clear Spring, Indiana. She has an older brother (Oliver) who runs the farm with their father. In addition, Jessica has a younger brother (Raymond) and sister (Melody) who are both still in school. Scarlet tells her own origin story in Troubleshooters #4.

The Scarlet Sabre was created by Spectrum and her image came from the pen of Muskateer.

Lost Heroes Notes:

In the time of Lost Heroes, the Scarlet Sabre is dead, disintegrated during the raid on Dr. Destroyer's main base. Enraged, Jaime turned Destroyer's weapons upon themselves, destroying them and all his bases in the process. Jaime is believed to have perished when the computer she was inhabiting was destroyed. Scarlet had a short, passionate love affair with Muskateer in the months before her death. Jessica shared many of her secrets with Muskateer, including root passwords at CII.

Somehow, Jaime appeared to have survived and attempted to reach Muskateer inhabiting the body of one of the Mechanons. She dispatched a message to warn Muskateer, but it came to late. He did his best to destroy Mechanon, only to uncover the meaning of the message afterwards. Now Muskateer is working feverishly to try and save Jaime.

Terra Nova Notes:

On the magically dominated world of Terra Nova, Jessica Flynn is known as the Freebooter Captain Jess. She is the master of the pirate ship "Windsabre". Captain Jess does not appear to have the enhancements that the Scarlet Sabre has. However, she is actually superior in her skill with the sabre.

While transporting the Terra Novan Avengers back to the mainland the Windsabre was attacked by Vina the sea sorceress. The ship was damaged in the conflict, forcing Captain Jess to sail to a small island chain. A hidden city was located on one of the islands and the Windsabre was docked for repairs. Captain Jess plans to use this hidden city as a base of operations for her pirate endeavors.
