Known Powers:

Quantum possesses a staggering array of powers, but not all her abilities are available at all times. The accident that granted her super powers in effect made Wendy into a living solar battery. She absorbs light and releases it in a variety of ways. In addition, Wendy can tap into the Dimensional Energies that created Quantum and greatly boost her own power. The connection to this Dimensional Energy is tenuous at best, causing Quantum's power levels to wildly fluctuate. With continued observation, Quantum realized that she operates at a variety of power levels, gaining additional abilities with each increase in power.

The least powerful level Quantum operates on is Level One. At this power level, Wendy's physical traits are within normal human range. She possesses her standard light powers, but using them is very taxing. Quantum can fire blasts of light of varying degrees, erect walls of solid light, and has the power of flight.

Level Two is Quantum's normal operating level. All of Wendy's physical traits and light powers are increased, and they continue to do so for each new power level she attains. Quantum's rudimentary mental powers being to show at this level, as she gains the power of telekinesis. The Dimensional Energy amplifies her natural senses, allowing her to see in the Infrared and Ultraviolet ranges. Her resistance to damage increases as well.

Quantum can reach Level Three with regularity. At this level, Quantum can begin to dominate battles. All her previous abilities are geometrically increased. In addition, Wendy gains the power to directly attack the minds of others or make herself intangible. Her senses increase in power and she can see microscopically and telescopically. She is able to survive in harsh environments and can breath normally underwater. Her body can regenerate and she gains a rudimentary danger sense.

On average, Quantum can reach Level Four about once a month. At this level, Quantum's mental abilities continue to increase. She gains the ability to locate minds and can teleport herself and others by an act of will. Her teleportation can penetrate into other dimensions as well.

About once every six months, Quantum hits Level Five. Quantum gains the ability to travel through space at faster than light velocities. Her vision becomes so strong as to be able to see through all but the densest materials. Quantum's mental powers expand, allowing her to become aware of any source of danger in her immediate area. She is able to understand any form of verbal communication. Quantum can change her clothing according to her whims.

Quantum has only reached Level Six a handful of times during her career. All of her abilities are geometrically increased to a frightening degree. She is able to dominate virtually any villain team on her own. On average, Quantum reaches Level Six once a year. Theoretically, Quantum should be able to advance to Level Seven and beyond, but has yet to do so.

Notes:

Wendy Lee was a typical young woman until one fateful day. She was a passenger on a flight bound for Los Angeles that was hijacked by VIPER over the Rockies. Wendy, and the other passengers were kidnapped to be used as hostages in a plan that involved the grand, one-time alliance between VIPER, Dr. Destroyer, and Mechanon.

The villains had constructed a device they called a 'Dimensional Interface Generator', which they intended to use to super-charge Dr. Destroyer and Mechanon. The combined forces of the Avengers and the Guardians raided the base and fought their way to the vast laboratory holding the Dimensional Interface Generator. "Disturb this generator and all these hostages die a horrible death!", Dr. Destroyer announced to the arriving heroes, forcing them to hesitate.

However, the entrance of the heroes had inadvertently weakened the shackles holding Wendy. Unnoticed, she slipped free and using a carelessly discarded wrench smashed the generator! Wendy was at the center of the explosion that followed, as the energy that had built up in the generator was unleashed. Instead of perishing, the explosion had infused Wendy with great power.

Wendy fought Dr. Destroyer to a standstill, the villain temporarily being supercharged by the same explosion. However, as his charge began to wane, Destroyer used the last of his energy to escape. Wendy's powers seemed to fade as well.

In spite of her decrease in power, Wendy had been changed by the explosion. Her body acted like a living solar cell-- she drew strength from light and had light based powers. It hurt her to be shielded from lightwaves. In addition, Wendy is permanently bonded to the energy from whatever dimension the generator was pulling it from. This connection is much like a radio signal in operation. Sometimes reception is clear, others it's fuzzy. Because of this, Wendy's powers radically fluctuate randomly.

After long thought, Wendy decided to use her powers as a costumed heroine. Her hero name comes from a principal of atomic physics in which electrons jump from one quantum energy level to another to another, each jump producing photons, or particles of light. Wendy called herself Quantum.

Quantum has had a long, but somewhat odd, hero career. She has fought and beaten some of the most powerful villains this world has to offer, but has also inexplicably lost to several third-rate villains. Wendy briefly served as a member of the Avengers. Once she realized that her powers fluctuated among several distinct power levels, Wendy decided to resign her spot on the team. With her powers functioning so radically, she was more of a hindrance to her teammates than a help.

Wendy currently wanders the Earth, going where she feels she's needed. She's parlayed her modest inheritance into a small fortune to handle her personal needs. Wendy has had a long on again, off again relationship with Sam Lui, a field reporter for World News Network.

Unknown to Quantum, a mysterious being that operates as some sort of time/dimensional guardian has some measure of control over the power levels that Wendy can reach. Just who this being is and what their interest in Quantum is has yet to be revealed. This unknown being is able to trigger surges in Quantum's powers, allowing her to reach levels 4 and above.

Quantum is the creation of one of the designers of the Champions Game, George MacDonald. The original write up for Quantum appeared in Dragon Magazine #111. Her image is from the same article; the artist is unknown. Quantum was adapted for our game by Spectrum.
