New Crusaders #8 - 10

"Battle Royal"

Spectrum's Comments: The Freedom Squad and the LA Knights team up once again as the Great Super Villain contest begins to wind down. The combined group is now outside a strange blue dome facing a small army of villains.

New Crusaders #8

Rainbow Archer nocks another arrow and fires. This time her aim is off and she accidentally (?) hits Beamline!

"Stupid broad!", he shouts.

Firewing silently stalks Areion, waiting for his challenger to make the first move. At last Areion comes forward, flips over Firewing and attempts to kick him in the back of the head. However, he hits nothing but air as Firewing ducked and spun to his left.

"A most unoriginal attack."

Firewing connects with a punch of his own, stunning Areion. Another punch puts Areion on his back.

A scant second before Firewing's first punch lands, Areion can see Serena out of the corner of his eye. With an evil grin, she winks at him and makes her way into the dome.

The Scarlet Sabre fires a blast of energy from her Sabre, but misses the hovering Gaussian. Gaus, returns fire nonetheless. Scarlet redirects the energy attack hitting Cryotron fully. However, the armored villain suffers no damage from the attack.

Sapphire soars across the battlefield and collides with Ripper. The impact brings her to a halt and sends the massive villain flying back over seventy feet.

Ripper crashes to the ground and is dazed. Sapphire is on him before he can regain his wits. She smacks him the face with her clenched fists sending him back another fifty feet. Ripper does not rise from this attack.

A strange haze surrounds Void.

Seeing Dynamo rushing towards him, Sgt. Supreme fires a bolt of lightning at him. Dynamo deftly dodges and keeps coming. Supreme fires again, but gets the same result.

At last Dynamo reaches the villain and lands a tremendous hook, staggering the villain. A powerful upper cut puts Sarge down.

The area around Howler begins to shimmer slightly.

Emerald Knight rushes forward and flicks one of his Biters towards the bellowing Power Crusher. Several beams of energy are fired, hitting and hurting the villain.

Night steers his glider towards Rainbow Archer.

Warlock teleports and re-appears near Beamline. He fires his Grav Gun and hits, driving Beamline to his knees.

The beastly Savij leaps at Gaussian, but she flies to the side and he sails harmlessly pass.

Professor Power reaches Cryotron and punches him in the face. The blow appears to hurt Cryotron, but he remains standing before Power.

Cryotron raises his armored gauntlet and strange energy comes forth. The air around Professor power becomes solid, encasing him in ice.

Power flexes his muscles, shattering the ice. Cryotron swings, but misses Power.

American Eagle swoops down and punches the blinded Esper. He hits, knocking her on her duff.

"You'll pay for that, whoever you were!"

Starlight fires a blast of energy at Void, but it passes harmless through him!!

Jo-Tan and Chaos, both now nine feet tall reach each other and start to fight it out.

Short Circuit runs in and touches the recovering Beamline, putting the villain out of this fight.

Earthmaster suddenly sinks into the ground.

Victrix blasts Gaussian, knocking the hovering villainess back 25 feet. Gaus returns the favor, hitting Victrix with a magnetic blast.

In dragon form, Shadow catches the plunging 'air-Wolf'. He then sets him down near Wraithe.

Elsewhere, Rainbow Archer shakes her head.

"Uh... What made me do that?"

Seeing Night glide toward her, she reaches into her quiver and pulls out an arrow. The shaft is fired and Night is covered in a sticky entangle. He tries to free himself with his knife, but is only about halfway out.

While Esper mentally searches for her attacker, she is unprepared to deal with an energy blast from Scarlet Sabre. The blast drives the psionic to the ground.

Power Crusher, still being annoyed by the Biter, rushes Dynamo and pummels him. Strangely enough, Dynamo feels his strength drain away.

"HA! Your strength now belongs to dah Power Crush-ah!"

Shadow appears on the scene and attempts to breath fire on Crusher. He misses while trying to avoid Dynamo.

Emerald Knight leaps into the air and kicks Howler. Even though protected by a shield of sound, she's hurt and knocked sixty feet across the sky. She comes to a stop and is fuming!

GM Notes:

Well that covers most of phase 2-5. Night, Wraithe, Warlock, Savij, Starlight and Short Circuit still have actions in phase 5.

Dynamo's strength rating is now 6.

Hero Status:

Areion   -8 of 35 Stunned
Dynamo   34 of 42
Night   34 of 49
Sapphire   26 of 53
Warlock   12 of 31
Wolf   -33 of 40 6 of 12 BODY

Spectrum's Comments: This was perhaps the largest battle I ever ran on Q involving over forty supers! Even worse, it took almost a month to resolve!

SUBJ: wolf FROM: Wild dan 08/11/90 S#: 508729

When i get my senses i go inv and att the VOID with claw and bite also useingstelth

SUBJ: Short Circuit FROM: Kid ego 08/12/90 S#: 431739

::puts a thick fog around any villains that are in close proximity to each other, and then run towards a close villain and punch using my EB::

SUBJ: Shadow (R) FROM: WILD CATS 08/12/90 S#: 3552

"****!, ****!" Shadow yells, frustrated. He still has not hit anybody! Shadow then notices Areion getting walloped by Firewing. "I wonder," murmurs Shadow. Shadow will wing over to Firewing, trying to land behind him while his powers are down. Then, still in dragon form, unload everything he had, except fire, on Firewing, from behind.

During his attack he will say," There is a time for honor, and a time for stupidity, so use every advantage ya got, always!!"

SUBJ: Savij FROM: Psycho Tim 08/12/90 S#: 459377

Still going crazy, Savij will in at full speed and attack rainbow archer with my claws.

SUBJ: Wraithe (R) FROM: Immortal 08/13/90 S#: 489034

Still using Mind Control, I will concentrate next on Howler, having her attack Rainbow Archer. ]:)

I will just implant the command "attack Rainbow Archer", and then move to another villain.

(order to hit- Howler, Power Crusher- giving him the order to move away from Dynamo, and attacking Cryotron)

(I hope I am still saving a phase!--use it to teleport away if any of the villains comes towards me.)

SUBJ: WARLOCK FROM: DMG 08/13/90 S#: 458378

Warlock will first teleport S.E. of Gauss about 75ft.Once there he will use his ODDS power to make her powers turn against herself if possible(If not then he will use them to cause her powers stop.)He will then unload the Grav-Gun at max at her.

SUBJ: Scarlet Sabre (R) FROM: Enchantres 08/13/90 S#: 18127

I will run as fast as she can towards Bruiser. En route, she will be prepared to reflect incoming attacks if possible. Once there, I'll use martial arts on the villain.

SUBJ: Sapphire FROM: Schar 08/13/90 S#: 440951

Satisfied that Ripper will trouble us no more, I'll turn towards Firewing.

'We meet again, Ariax Throne. Our previous meeting left an unsatisfactory taste in my mouth. A taste I intend to remove this day. If it is battle that you want, if it is honor that you seek, then prepare for the battle of your lifetime!'

Assuming that Firewing attacks, and I do before Shadow gets there, I do normal, non-pushed punches. I'll use my flight to resist knockback.

SUBJ: Dynamo (R) FROM: Azhanti 08/14/90 S#: 94380

"Ahhgh, my strength! Well, PC you forgot that yer dealin' with a trained boxer." With that Dynamo starts dancing in circles around Power Crusher (Dodge, levels to defense), keeping him occupied till somebody else takes PC out or his strength returns. "You may be strong Power Musher, but ya couldn't hit my grandmother!"

SUBJ: Professor Power FROM: Nain 08/14/90 S#: 477989

Well, Cryotron seems to be a tough opponent, so I will use my flight to resist KB and unwind with a haymaker into him. If he still seems unhurt, then, "Let's see how good you are underneath that armor." With that Prof. Power's eyes glow blue and twin pale red rays shoot from his eyes.

If I hurt him the first time, I'll just keep on pounding him. I'll do that even after the thermal beam.

SUBJ: Night (R) FROM: Wildchilde 08/15/90 S#: 120085

I will cut my self free and drop to the ground to engage the first available enemy hand to hand. throwing a knife we appropriate.

SUBJ: Starlight (R) FROM: Starlight3 08/15/90 S#: 415546

Through the mind link that he shares with Wraithe, **Hey, I can really feel you inside my head. How do I tell you what I am thinking? Maybe if I think them real hard. Can you read me Wraithe? Gee, should you choose Howler next? I think your second choice is better. Howler may not be able to see yet. I think I blinded her really good. If you help Dynamo out, I can see what I can do with Howler and Rainbow Archer.**

If Howler is still flashed, Starlight will fire a light blast at Rainbow Archer, otherwise Howler becomes his target. He will save an action to jump in front of any attacks either made by Howler or that are directed toward Wraithe(assuming he sees them or is warned by his friend).

SUBJ: Intercession FROM: NightStlkr 08/15/90 S#: 828688

As combat rages along the rocky terrain, a figure appears on one of the nearby peaks. The figure is that of a man roughly 6'1" tall with baby blue eyes and impressively built. His light brown hair is long and well-groomed, flowing down to the base of his neck. The man is garbed in gleaming white leather; leather boots, leather jeans, and a white leather jacket zipped up to mid-abdomen with the collar turned up behind his neck.

In the middle of the man's chest is what appears to be an intricately detailed 'birthmark'.

The stranger looks over the proceedings around him, but it isn't the battle that has captured his interest; he seems to be searching for something (or someone) in particular. Then his gaze falls on the fallen Areion. Making his way to the unconscious hero, he kneels down beside him and raises the warrior's head into an upright position by supporting his neck. Placing his free hand on Areion's forehead, it begins to erupt in a pulsating crimson glow as his energies amplify Areion's recuperative properties.

(--6D6 Stun Aid--)

As Areion opens his eyes, the stranger greets him back to consciousness with a warm smile. It is then that the stranger speaks.

"Greetings, friend. My power tells me that you are an entity of magical origins. (--Detect deity w/ various added-in sensory enhancements--). I believe you may be able to assist me in some way. Tell me, what do you know about the surviving Beholders, and where might I find them?"

New power pool since Starlight said O.K. to mind link:

12 28 Teleportation 14", 15 or less activation, 3x END
19 34 Force Field 17 PD & 17 ED, 1/2 concentration, 2x END

(all concentrations are the while activating the power type)

Spectrum's Comments: The Beholder was a new character to the game from Nightstalker's player. He was a member of an ancient race called the Beholders who were vastly powerful. Other Beholders turned up in the future. Some nice, some not so nice, and some were the stuff of nightmares!

SUBJ: Shadow's second thought FROM: WILD CATS 08/16/90 S#: 805379

Instead, Shadow will attack with claws, that's all.

SUBJ: Emerald Knight FROM: Long Bo 08/17/90 S#: 421095

I move back towards Howler and Rainbow archer choosing the one that doesn't yet have an opponent.

As I'm running forward(dodge)I'll br firing my wrist lasers. Once in range I'll use acrobatics and kicks, sticking to that opponent till down.

New Crusaders #9

Unexpected in the midst of the battle, a strange man appears near Areion. Calling himself 'The Beholder' he heals Areion's wounds. Areion regains consciousness, not quite knowing what to make of this new comer.

The action back at the main battle continues hot and heavy.

Warlock teleports near to Gaussian's position. Against all odds, her force field suddenly fails... Just before she is hit by a blast from his gun! Gaussian is heavily damaged and is bleeding from many wounds.

Howler's blindness begins to fade, even as she is mentally assaulted by the Wraithe. She fights back, managing to remain in control of herself.

Savij leaps at Rainbow Archer, but she ducks and he misses. Starlight produces a bright flash before. "My eyes!", she shouts.

Short Circuit concentrates, causing a thick fog appears around Rainbow Archer and Howler.

Unhindered, Archer fires an arrow at Starlight, hitting him. "Sucker", she shouts, "Falling for the blindness bit." Turning, she fires a second arrow, wounding Savij.

Elsewhere, an aura of fire surrounds Firewing as he hears Sapphire approaching. "So be it, woman", he mutters. He waits for her to make the first move. Sapphire flies in and tags Firewing with a mighty punch. He is knocked back about 25 feet, but doesn't seem to be hurt. A burst of fire comes out of his hands, downing the azure warrior.

The Scarlet Sabre rushes into the fog, towards Bruiser. She reaches him and connects with her Sabre, hurting the villain. Short Circuit comes up behind her, touches Bruiser ko'ing him.

Howler appears over the area of darkness. Spotting Starlight, she moves to the attack.

"I owe you one, Mr. Lightshow!". She screams and a concentrated burst of sonics assaults Starlight. He barely feels her attack, and, in fact, draws strength from it!

Emerald Knight comes running in, firing his wrist lasers at Howler. He connects and she goes crashing to the ground.

Dynamo connects a right cross to Power Crusher, but in his weakened state, Dynamo is unable to hurt the Crusher.

"Hey! Stand still ya lil' twerp!"

Crusher swings, but misses Dynamo. Behind him, Emerald Knight's Biter continues to fire. At last it drives Crusher to his knees and then finally to unconsciousness.

While Night frees himself, American Eagle glides to the attack. He swoops into the darkness flying at about knee level. His wings strike Rainbow Archer tripping her up.

Savij locates the downed villainess and claws her into unconsciousness.

Cryotron blasts Professor Power with an ice ram, but does no damage. Power winds up and lands a devastating blow on Cryotron.

Elsewhere, Victrix and Jo-Tan finish up Chaos.

The Void appears to have disappeared.

Shadow flies in one Firewing and rakes him with his claws. Firewing goes down, still not having completely recovered from Serena's attack.

GM Notes:

That takes care of the villains outside, but what lurks within the dome?

Everyone, except Wolf, will be back to maximum stun in a few minutes. Wolf's going to need some help to be back in the land of the living anytime soon.

Dynamo's strength quickly returns.

SUBJ: Shadow FROM: WILD CATS 08/18/90 S#: 73311

"Woooo! I feel great!" Shadow will turn back into human form and help Sapphire up. "Now what Areion?"

SUBJ: Sapphire

Sapphire shakes the cobwebs from her head and silently curses to herself. When offered a helping hand from Shadow she accepts.

'Thanks, friend. I am alright now. It seems that we've run out of foes...'

Not sure what to do next, Saph will wait for American Eagle to decide our course of action.

GM Notes:

American Eagle lands near Areion and the Beholder.

"A friend of yours, Areion? Anyway, if that dome holds our imprisoned comrades, then he must attack right away. The element of surprise is gone. We may not get another chance like this. Say, what happened to Serena?"

SUBJ: -- AREION -- FROM: AREION 08/19/90 S#: 462484

Areion is so taken aback by this stranger, that he momentarily forgets his situation.

"The Beholders?!? But I thought that was just a legend...you're questions will have to wait, friend. There's an evil artifact of incredible power in that spherical compound, along with a few dozen captive heroes!"

"Eagle! Serena's already inside...I saw her enter the sphere just before Firewing struck me down. We have to get in there, FAST!"

"We have two tasks ahead of us. It may be best if we split the teams up. I have certain...skills...that would make The Knights the most qualified for finding The Emerald Eye, and I consider its safe disposal a personal responsibility. You have expressed a great deal of concern for the captive heroes safety, finding them would be your task."

While American Eagle ponders the pro's and con's, Areion turns to the self-proclaimed 'Beholder'.

"If you truly are a Beholder of legend, your power would prove quite useful to us. Once we've finished here, I'll be happy to answer all of your questions, I give you my word."

Speaking mainly to my own team (new recruits included. :> )

"Eagle's right, we've lost the element of surprise, but perhaps we can keep an edge. A number of you can render yourselves invisible. Do so. I'll create magical simulicons of some of you, Starlight can create illusionary duplicates of the others. My magic won't fool anyone who looks too closely but if I keep them to the rear of the group and the movements simple, they should make suitable decoys."

"Anyone have any ideas?"

SUBJ: The Beholder - Marduk FROM: NightStlkr 08/19/90 S#: 85199

"That sounds fair enough to me, my friend. And for openers, I'll make sure these fallen villains don't come to and wander off."

With a touch to the head of each villain, The Beholder uses his awesome power over reality to slow down their body metabolisms. (--3D6 REC Drain, return rate: 5ap/5hrs--) Do 3 times per villain.

After taking care of the villains, The Beholder approaches the bloody, unconscious form of Wolf. As he did with Areion, The Beholder accelerates the fallen hero's recuperative properties

(--10D6 STUN Aid, then a 3D6 BODY Aid--)

With his work completed, The Beholder stands silently while the others plan their strategy. He'll be more than willing to lend his power in any way he can.

SUBJ: Scarlet Sabre

Scarlet's not quite sure what to make of this Beholder character.

'Who is this guy? Can we trust him? As for suggestions, I'm stumped. I have no powers totally out of the ordinary nor helpful at this time.'

SUBJ: WARLOCK FROM: DMG 08/20/90 S#: 441343

As the battle ends Warlock will make a couple changes to his force field allowing him to positing it in a 5 foot radius(and 3x normal strength)in one direction or the normal sphere with a simple command.

After this Warlock will wait for our fearless leader to decide when to go into the dome.

SUBJ: GM Notes FROM: GM Mad 08/20/90 S#: 787666

Aided by the Beholder's powers, Wolf is completely healed in minutes. (Stun thanks to Beholder and Body by Wolf's own regeneration.)

Beholder, then slows down the healing of the villains.

Warlock adjusts his personal force field as he posted. The alignment for the small screen at triple strength is intense. It could possibly burnout due to an overload.

The villains have little to offer in equipment. Cryotron's armor holds a few surprises. Warlock can tell that it's material and construction is not of this Earth. He takes a few parts the he believes that he might need.

After pausing for a moment, American Eagle speaks.

"I accept your expertise in this area, Areion. However, let us see what awaits us inside before deciding to split up. Such action might not be necessary."

SUBJ: Savij (R) FROM: Psycho Tim 08/20/90 S#: 845351

" Blue lady...all right?" says Savij as he runs over to her. "Savij not let you get hurt!" after about 10 seconds of what looks like an annoying pain to saph "Savij...like you!"

SUBJ: Shadow FROM: WILD CATS 08/20/90 S#: 795380

"Ok, Areion" Shadow says. Shadow will then turn invisible and await further orders.

SUBJ: Sapphire

'I am well, thanks Savij.'

Sapphire gives Savij a big hug. She is unafraid of this creature. Being an alien herself, she is unflinched by Savij like most Earthers. He is just another form of life. His claws and teeth also do not faze her. Her skin is super dense, making her invulnerable to most normal attacks.

Seeing Beholder tend to Wolf's injuries I move along side of him, placing my hand on his shoulder.

'You are not known to me, stranger, but you have my thanks. It would be most unpleasing for the furry one to perish in such a manner.'

'I do have one suggestion, Areion. Allow Professor Power and myself to proceed first into the structure. We appear to be the most resilient of the assembled heroes.'

'Also, my furry friend here ::pats Wolf on the head:: is a most skilled tracker. He could easily locate our missing allies.'

SUBJ: Dynamo (R) FROM: Azhanti 08/21/90 S#: 36776

"American Eagle, I may be able ta sneak in while the rest of you attack in force usin' my keen senses of perception ta find the captured heroes. Course we could just do a full frontal assault an' find 'em later, but if there's a lot of bolt throwers, my

stealth may be more useful than my punchin'."

SUBJ: Professor Power (R) FROM: Nain 08/21/90 S#: 809351

"I think Dynamo has a good plan. I'll go to back him up. Anyone else want to join?"

I will try to use my scientific knowledge to free any heroes I find.

SUBJ: Night (R) FROM: Wildchilde 08/23/90 S#: 839823

I will offer to accompany a group into the Dome.

SUBJ: The Beholder - Marduk (R) FROM: NightStlkr 08/23/90 S#: 438760

At Sapphire's gesture of friendship, The Beholder looks up at her with a warm smile on his face.

"There is no need to thank me; I'm a Beholder, and Beholders hold all life in high regard. I am just glad to be of some help. When this ordeal of yours is through, perhaps you can return the favor by helping me find any survivors of my race."

SUBJ: Starlight FROM: Starlight3 08/23/90 S#: 461526

**Wraithe, they're all talking way to fast for me to keep up, could you tell me what is happening? I read what Areion wanted me to do, could you ask him who he wants me to try and 'create'? Also, um the job of keeping myself invisible, flying and trying to

maintain my light tricks is a big drain on me all at once. If I do this, maybe it would be a good idea if I kept off my force field until I need it. After all, you could warn me if anything is happening right? What do you think?**

SUBJ: Emerald Knight FROM: Long Bo 08/24/90 S#: 824933

Walks over and picks up my drained biter. "Well, down to one."

While the others are talking I go to work on my rifle. I created it to be easily converted and now I'm taking advantage of it.

I pull the inside barrel out increasing the diameter of the outside barrel to 4". Next I pop out the clip secreting in a hidden spot in my uniform. I next pull a small proton accelerator from my suit and click it home.

"There you go boys and girls. Can you say plasma rifle. I knew you could."

Mail From: Immortal Date: Tuesday 21-Aug-90 22:27 EDT

I will change my power pool to:

Clairsentience sight & hearing full concentration while used (-1)3x END (-1) invisible power effect (-1)(he is concentratiing on shielding his power from mental detection)[60 active pnts./20 real]

mind link - starlight [5 real points]

Force Field 17 pd & ed 1/2 conc. to activate 2x end [34 active pnts./19 real]

I will use the clairsentience to search for any heroes and for Serena. I will search for 1 minute intervals, and will tell the others what I find.

Wraithe (Immortal)

New Crusaders #10

The two teams remain outside the strange dome in the hills of LA. Several plans and ideas have been put forth, but none of been decided upon.

Areion, using his magic sense, can detect four sources of magic within the dome. One of these is Serena.

Wraithe reports that he has located the missing heroes in the dome. He relates that he sees them on the 6th level of the dome. The entrance itself is one the 3rd level of the dome. He doesn't see much in the way of guards, however what he does see turns everyone pale.

Not only is Serena moving towards the Emerald Eye, but Dr. Destroyer, Menton and Borealis are too!

GM Notes:

For the sake of those unfamiliar with Champions, Dr. Destroyer and Menton are 5 star villians. Borealis is a 4.

Dr. Destroyer is the most infamous villian on the planet. His mere presence means that you should be afrain... very afraid! His power is incredible, in the vein of Dr. Doom.

Menton is the most powerful psionic in the world.

Borealis is the premier villain of Canada. Also, very powerful but not in Destroyer and Menton range.

Hiya Mad.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

There's something I want The Beholder to do in his post that I think I should clear with you first. I know he's an extremely versatile character, and I don't want to mess up your campaign. I want The Beholder to use his power to obtain The Emerald Eye. This is how it'll work:

1) First, he'll locate the Eye-- (--Detect 'Magic Artifact' on 14<; range, targeting, discriminatory. No Range Penalty.--) Cost: (3+6+5+20+5) x 1.5 = 58ap pool cost: 23pts

2) Then he'll make the Eye appear to be bathed in a bright light to hide it from view-- (--1 Hex Image: 'Sphere of translucent light' vs. sight sense group. -3 to PER rolls, Indirect [-1/4]--) Cost: (10+10+9) x 1.25 = 36ap pool cost: 14pts

3) Finally, he'll teleport the eye back to him. (--10" TP- Usable vs others w/range, Indirect [-1/4]--) Cost: 20 x 2.75 = 55ap pool cost: 22pts

The Beholder will leave the image on until The Eye is teleported out of the dome. When the image goes off, it'll appear to Dr. Destroyer & co. that The Eye has disappeared.

Spectrum's Comments: That idea did come somewhat as a surprise. While similar, running a game and writing stories are different. In a story, I have complete control over everything, so things work out (mostly) as planned. In a game, there is a lot less control and things can go off on unexpected tangents. Just a matter of rolling with the changes and adapting on the fly.

SUBJ: Savij FROM: Psycho Tim 08/27/90 S#: 806659

With a howl of rage, the help of having an animal's instinct to kill, and not knowing how powerful his challenge is, savij runs to attack menton as fast as he can move.

Mail From: DMG Date: Monday 27-Aug-90 00:36 EDT

GM Mad a quick change. First make the 3x Force shield a 3x (therefore less chance of short.)and his fix his teleporter so it can teleport something else the same distance. (Although this would take 1 action to set up.)

Spectrum's Comments: Below is my response to the Beholder mail above. In short, my standard answer of "Try it and find out!"

Hmmm.... An interesting tactic, there Beholder...

Don't worry about messing up the game, things never go as planned anyway! ;)

You can try to do what you wrote, however the first thing you note is that there are 3 Emerald Eyes! One is more powerful then the other two, but not that much more.

Second, you'll find that there is a shield vs. teleportation around the dome. No one can teleport in or out. A very necessary defense to keep anyone, not just your character, from stealing the Eye. :)

SUBJ: Sapphire

Sapphire will reach out, attempting to prevent Savij from running off.

'Contain thyself, friend. There will come a time for battle. As of yet, we don't know where the villains are. The time for talk is over. Based on the Wraith's report, we must act. Quickly. This 'Emerald Eye' must not fallen into any of the master villains hands.'

That said, Sapphire stands back, preparing for the awesome confrontation to come.

SUBJ: Scarlet Sabre

'Dr. Destroyer?? O'bloody hell! This just gets better and better...'

Scarlet will appear at ease, but she is nervous as all heck inside. If it does come down to a fight against such heavyweights, she will always ready to redirect any ranged attacks coming her way.

'Well, shall we go? Today is as good a day as any to die.'

(She heard that on TV somewhere... ;))

SUBJ: Wraithe FROM: Immortal 08/28/90 S#: 814508

Perhaps those who can become invisible, and teleport, should enter the dome at one location while the rest enter at another. It might give us the element of surprise. If someone can shield the area from sight, that also might would help.

:Hey Starlight, what do you think?.. If we don't get separated, lets double team the villians we attack.:

(For use with New Crusaders Post # 10.)

Having used his power to locate the Emerald Eye, The Beholder attempts to retrieve it for the heroes.

Using his awesome power, The Beholder causes the Eye to disappear right before the eyes of any onlookers.

Meanwhile outside the dome, a rift begins to form in the air in front of The Beholder. Suddenly, The Emerald Eye falls from the rift; landing at The Beholder's feet.

Here's how The Beholder is trying to do it:

SUBJ: HELP! (dynamo[feelin'small](R) FROM: Azhanti 08/29/90 S#: 799219

"If those three are as powerful as you say they are, we'll need all the help we can get just to survive against them. If we can free all the captured heroes, and assuming that they are battle ready, we might even stand a chance of defeating them. We'd probably sustain about 65% casualties though. Better still, if we can free the other

heroes AND trick them into fighting each other, we might well stand an even chance of seeing tomorrow. I'll do my part, but against people like this, bein' a real good boxer isn't much help."

SUBJ: Professor Power (R) FROM: Nain 08/29/90 S#: 818343

"Good logic and reasoning Dynamo. I'll go with you to help free the heroes."

SUBJ: The Beholder - Marduk FROM: NightStlkr 08/29/90 S#: 425008

Hearing the others mention The Emerald Eye a half dozen times, The Beholder then comes to the obvious conclusion that it is of great importance to the assembled heroes.

Using his power, he scans the dome in search of this enchanted item (--Detect Magic Artifact w/ various sensory enhancements--). After he has located it, The Beholder speaks.

"If it is so important for you to obtain The Emerald Eye, perhaps I can save you the trouble of retrieving it by bringing it to YOU. Hmmm... I sense the presence of 3 such items; 1 being a bit stronger than the others. maybe I should fetch them all, starting with the strongest of the trio."

The Beholder's pectoral 'birthmark' begins to radiate with a crimson glow as his powers reach out in the attempt to retrieve The Emerald Eye.

SUBJ: Shadow FROM: WILD CATS 08/30/90 S#: 848081

Dr. Destroyer? A shiver goes up Shadow' spine Ok, now what?

SUBJ: WARLOCK FROM: DMG 08/31/90 S#: 809415

Hearing what were up against Warlock will let out a low moan. Seeing that the group is going to split up, if the Beholders trick fails, then Warlock will go with what ever group should need him most(hopefully the prisoner break out group).

SUBJ: -- AREION -- (R) FROM: AREION 09/01/90 S#: 458037

"You've got a good idea there, Wraithe, though I'm not sure it will work. Serena entered the dome, and is tracking The Eye on foot. She's not the kind of person to bother herself with menial tasks, unnecessarily. A Gate spell would have been much faster and easier. If you should succeed, then proceed to attempt to rescue the captives. If such an entry is possible, I trust your power will be able to handle the feat, Beholder? You've proven yourself to be an adequate healer, and we may need those heroes on their feet and ready for battle if we're to make it through this alive."

Further actions on Areion's part will depend on whether or not The Beholder was successful in retrieving The Emerald Eye of Azog.

If he was:

"No one touch them!! The true eye is a talisman of great power, as I suspect are the other two, tainted by an evil master. Such power never comes without a hidden price."

"Well done, Beholder! Now all we need worry about is rescuing the captive heroes before the villains discover the theft and come after us."

"Eagle, If some of us can teleport inside, I think the rest of us should stay together to run interference..."

Areion makes a lifting motion towards The 'Eyes' and they rise into the air inside a translucent green bubble (Mage Force s4: 10Str TK, 15AP 12RP)

"and play decoy if necessary. But for now, let's keep these safely hidden."

Through the use of his Mage Force, Areion will line the three mystic objects along his scabbard and use an Image spell (s8: Images vs sight and mental sense groups, -2 to Per roll, 26AP, 21RP) to make the Mage Force glow and The Eyes blend into the shield and deaden any supernatural emanations they may give off.

"If teleporting in proves impossible, then our teams should split up. The Knights will run interference while The Freedom Squad rescues the prisoners. Wraith, you should go with the Squad since you can lead them to the heroes. Beholder, you should go with them too. This...Savij appears to be eager for battle. Perhaps you'll allow him to accompany The Knights?"

"Let's do it!"

If The Beholder fails:

"It was worth a try, but it looks like we're going to have to do this the hard way. If the teleporters don't get in, then we must split the two teams up. Eagle, you and The Squad should try to rescue the heroes while The Knights and myself go after The Eye. Wraith, since you know where the prisoners are being held, you'll go with The Freedom Squad as will the Beholder."

Areion waits for them to comply or voice their disagreement.

"Savij appears a bit unruly for a stealthful mission, perhaps he should come with The Knights. We may have need of another combatant."

Once he and Eagle agree on a plan, Areion will activate his Magic Sense (s10: 45AP, 36RP) and lead The Knights into the dome.

"This is it. One desperate battle against impossible odds. These are the adventures that legends are made of! I know what most of you are feeling, but there are countless lives depending on our victory here, today! We wouldn't be much in the way of heroes if we only fought the battles we knew we could win. Cast your doubts aside and do the best you can...no one cast more of you than that!"

"Those of you can become invisible may wish to do so now."

SUBJ: Starlight FROM: Starlight3 09/01/90 S#: 53101

:Sure sounds like a good idea to me Wraithe! I don't think I want to take on any of these guys (and gals, sorry Serena) on my own.:

All the while he is waiting for Areion to decide what we are doing, Starlight can't help but wonder if he is ready for this. Maybe it is not to late to call in the Crusaders, or maybe the Champions. How about the Boy Scouts?
