Spectrum's Comments: Lots going on here. The battle with the aliens is over, the Popsicles are awake, and Rem takes Beth on a trip into her mind...
Lost Heroes #54 - "The Final Battle"
At long last, the enemy has revealed itself. As Ug called them they are the Midrins, parasitic beings composed of energy.
Doug, Ug and Warlock find themselves confronted by two of the aliens. Not wanting to risk hitting his own companions, Warlock sets his rocket launcher aside. He concentrates, hoping for a bit of good luck to happen.
Ug shifts into something looking very similar to a Midrin and then changes back again.
Ug - "That's it! They are vulnerable to energy!"
He fires his hand cannon, hitting one of the Midrins.
Doug acts, projecting a force globe around the aliens. The unwounded alien attempts to find a way out of the globe, but cannot. The wounded alien has ceased to move completely. Its energy field begins to spread out. The other alien comes in, absorbing it's comrade into itself. The now one alien seems larger than before.
Unexpectedly, a loose electrical wire falls from the ceiling, electrifying the force globe. The alien is hurt by the attack and stops moving. It hangs silently in Doug's prison.
Elsewhere, the last alien confronts Lord Lunatic, Impact, and Outback. Impact enters the room and strikes a heroic pose, attempting to intimidate the alien. The alien holds for a second and then moves to the attack. It glides toward Impact.
Impact swings, attempting to punch the alien, but his fist simply passes through the alien! It feels like he just grabbed an electrical wire and gets a minor shock.
Lord Lunatic comes in, his Phoenix Sword ablaze. He slices into the alien with spectacular results. The alien is cut into two parts. Both parts quiver for a moment and then disperse. In moments, there is no trace of the alien.
After some searching, but attacking groups locate each other. Further exploration reveals no more aliens on the ship. The craft is now secured.
Inside the lounge at Alpha Base, Number 6 entertains the three revived scientists. Upon learning the fate of their comrades, they are saddened. Amy appears particularly devastated. It seems she was engaged to the military pilot.
David - "Your news does not bode well for us. There is much that needs to be done."
Sharon - "We knew the risks when we agreed to stay behind. None of us wanted to abandon the Earth. Our dream is to someday rebuild our race on our home world. The six of us each had skills that would be necessary to complete this task."
David - "How many do you number? Who is your leader? If we are to rebuild the world, then we had best get started. Plans will need to be made."
In Beth's quarters, Rem is helping her come to terms with her new powers. As they converse, Rem switches from vocal to telepathy. Without missing a beat, Beth follows suit. She is quickly learning to project her thoughts.
At Rem's urging, Beth attempts to talk to Number 6. She closes her eyes and reaches out with her mind. However, she cannot seem to locate him. That test meets with no success. After that, Rem attempts to enter Beth's memory to learn what happened when Solitaire merged with Beth.
Within Beth's mind, the Psi images of Rem and Beth come together. It is a strange world, a world of perpetual grey fog. The next thing they know, they are standing on a sun-drenched island. Crystal clear water laps up on the beach. On a large towel, lays Solitaire in a swimsuit. Two attractive men attend to her needs. She notices the girls approach.
Solitaire - "Hello! This is an unexpected visit. What can I do for you?"
GM Notes:
That should keep all of you busy! The 'war' is over and you've won! What are you going to do with the remaining alien and it's ship?
Everyone is back to maximum STUN.
Spectrum's Comments: That's what a I meant by the Beach in Beth's mind. It will also show up again in the later stuff.

With the group in the ship rejoined, Impact makes some suggestions.
"Doug probably can't keep that force field up forever. I suggest we find an energy holding cell for later...um...questioning. That's if we can question these things."
"I'm heading over to the base to make sure everything's O.K. there."
Impact heads over to the base alone in thought.
*Great, I was a BIG help against those aliens. Maybe if my force field had activated I would have been able to nail that thing. I never know when that field's going to work.*
He enters the base. He spots #6 and the scientist.
"Sorry if I startled you. You've probably never seen a guy with orange skin and a purple mohawk before. Believe me, if I could change my looks I would."
*Lucky Ug*
He then looks for Beth. Upon finding her and REM in meditation, he goes to wake them... then thinks better of it and sits down and watches the two in patient vigil.

SUBJ: WARLOCK FROM: DMG 04/20/90 S#: 839477
As the battle draws to a conclusion and they look for a safe place to store it (in some kind of energy field I guess) Warlock will take a look around the ship for its Tech stuff. He will take a close look at the robot remains and even bring parts back. Once back at the base he will continue to finish his own robot. (Just the basic outfit and it's programming no weapons)
SUBJ: Doug FROM: Shadeblade 04/20/90 S#: 507551
Doug seems to be feeling a little strain from using his 'fields, but he isn't a fool, either...
"We need to get something that will make a Forcebubble... like mine. I can hold this for a while, but not forever. The base will be a great place to start."
"By the way... Great work! You people are the most fantastic group I've seen yet! By working strengths together like we did today, we can do almost anything. I only wish that Trish could meet..."
Doug's face begins to furrow into remembrance. His spirits sink a bit lower on the quick trip back to the base. He becomes quieter, but still forcing a smile.
Back at the base, he brings up the immediate worry to Number 6 through intercom, apologizing at the interruption. Doug will explain quickly, hoping that Number 6 has something to help. He won't release the being unless it can be kept safely, even if only by a guard with an energy weapon.
SUBJ: UG FROM: Yiseal 04/21/90 S#: 65614
When I take form again it is in Doug's image.
"We must kill that thing as soon as possible. It is strictly a parasite. They only way it lives is by feeding off from others. I wish I could study it more to learn it's full capabilities but what I have learned is enough. Kill it!"
Back in the base, I will take to cleaning my weapon. I also get into the computer and see what I can learn about this place. It seems things are not as they seem. I go after 2 areas more than any others. The first is all the information I can acquire about the area that is still closed off. The other info I want is a repair program for one of the ships in the hanger. I want to get one of those combat spaceships working so we are not stuck on the ground. While working with the computer, I take on Number 6's appearance. When work on the ship starts, I will take on Beth's appearance.
SUBJ: Number 6 FROM: Deslock 04/22/90 S#: 29653
"At present, I believe we number ten, although, as I stated, people have been popping in and out with alarming frequency. For this, and other reasons, we have no official leader at this point. As two of the members of our group who have been around the longest, Dr. Williams and myself provide guidance as required. As to plans, things have been in such a state of flux; we've had little opportunity to do more than react to the latest crisis. You undoubtedly had some plan of action which you intended to implement upon your awakening, perhaps we should start there."
SUBJ: Beth
Beth is pleased with her progress with her new telepathy talent.
'Based on observation, I would say that my telepathy is limited to targets with in my sight.'
Upon appearing in my own Psi, I stand stunned for several moments.
'This is amazing... I've never seen anything like this...'
And then finding the 'beach' and Solitaire...
'You! This is all your fault! What did you do to me?'
GM Notes:
On board the ship, a suitable container is found. Ug reveals that while the Midrin as partially intangible, they cannot pass thru solid materials. A close container is found and the creature forced inside.
As Warlock searches the ships for parts, he comes upon an interesting discovery. The parts on the ship are very similar to those in Alpha Base. The only conclusion he can reach is that this ship was built by humans!
Ug, which closed off section do want more information on? The one with the 'black forest' in it, or the old PSI Base?
In addition, the aliens ship would be the ship that is the closest to space worthiness. The ships in the hanger bay are aircraft only.
David says, "I see. Yes, we did have a plan of action when coming out of our sleep. We must get to the control center and run a diagnostic check on the base. Check sensor capabilities and satellite uplinks."
The scientists then make their way to the Control Center.
Solitaire appears surprised at Beth's outburst. "Boy, try to do someone a favor and this is the thanks I get! Care for some punch?"

"Well, David, we have been doing some work toward those ends, mainly with regards to the base's offenses and defenses, but we have been doing some overall maintenance work."
Upon hearing of the state of the 'alien' vessel, and it's probable origins, I'll head over and check it out.
If what the others reported is accurate, I'm afraid we may have discovered the fate of the human colonies. -
Coming upon the morgue, I'll inspect the bodies to determine their nature. Were the victims human or of some other race? After determining what I can, I'll head down to the engine room to evaluate the extent of the damage our laser shot caused. Upon arrival, I'll give Fred a call.
"Fred, we've got a new job. Please report as soon as possible to the engine room of the spacecraft outside Alpha Base."
After the call, I begin work on restoring power to the ship.
Prologue 1: Elsewhen...
"The time to act has come. We can no longer ignore the situation. The fate of everything now depends on it."
"I am ready to go, father."
He drew his daughter into his arms and held her for a moment.
"It is truly ironic. He calls them the Lost Heroes.... And if everything works out, that is what they shall truly be..."
They parted. The power came over her and she was gone. He was now alone in limbo...
Prologue 2: Elsewhere...
"Well, the thing with the aliens was fun... Now what deviltry can I cause?"
"You cannot continue with this! These are real people you are playing with!"
"So? They'll never know that."
He ignored his conscience and returned to his keyboard. Words began to appear on the screen...
Number 6 leads the way to the Control Center in Alpha Base. The three revived scientists in tow. They quickly begin to work.
David - "It is in worse shape then I imagined. The satellite uplinks are down. Either they are damaged or the satellites destroyed. I cannot raise anyone on any know frequencies."
Amy - "Sensors are limited. 40,000 mile range tops."
After hearing about the alien ship being constructed by humans, Number 6 and Fred head over to it.
The bodies in the morgue appear to be human in every way. You can assume that the possession by the Midrin eventually 'burns out' the host.
Examining the ship, Number 6 estimates that it will take 10 days to make the ship space worthy. Engine repair will take about a week. Ship has enough power for current operation. The remaining three days are for repairing hull ruptures.
On the Psi-plane, Beth and Rem confront Solitaire.
Solitaire - "I really didn't do anything! Our essences have merged. I'm you you're me. You have access to my powers. I have access to your memories. I must really congratulate on your taste in men!"
With that, 'Taire gives a huge grin and takes another sip of punch.
Epilogue: Out in the desert...
The wayward Black Tarantula continues his trek. Occasionally he looks back towards Alpha Base, but no sign of pursuit is seen. He walks silently, his thoughts his own.
Seemingly out of nowhere, a grey mist appears. It blocks his path and extends to the left and right as far as he can see. There seems to be no way to avoid it.

The info I am looking for is the closed off section of the PSI base that I was told about when I arrived. If I also find out about the Black Forest, I will also gather info on that. It seems that when the group started to go into the old section, they were lead away from it. Each time they attempt to go someplace, they are lead back to where we are.
When I get back in base, I go looking for one of the original people. One that has been here the longest that isn't a sleeper. Once I get them, "I have a couple of questions. First, how many times have you tried to leave this section and got turned back? Next, how many times have you attempted to solve a mystery to have something else come up to divert you from looking into it? And the last, why would someone save someone that is going to die at the last moment to place them here?"
After I hear the response, "Would you say this is like an experiment or a game that someone is playing with us? I should have died but appeared here still wet. I was transported almost instantly here as I was about to breath in the water that was going to drown me."
SUBJ: REM FROM: REM9 04/28/90 S#: 840952
"Hi Solitaire. It is nice to see you again, especially when you are smiling. Boy did you set up house in here! It is also good to see that you are getting used to having these powers Beth. They aren't that bad once you learn how to control them. We can stay here for a while so you can learn from Solitaire what you can do, although maybe all you really have to do is think about it. After all, if she shares your memories, doesn't that mean that you share hers too? We can't stay here forever though. All these men around reminded me of something that I wanted to tell you before I reached the lab. I can't seem to be able to find Tarantula anywhere and he refuses to open the link that we share. I am a little worried that he is still upset about what happened, and did something foolish while we were dealing with that spaceship."
SUBJ: Doug FROM: Shadeblade 04/28/90 S#: 810449
After getting rid of the prisoner into a more permanent container, Doug disappears to his room. Once there, he carefully retrieves an old envelope from the Harmonizor's case. From the envelope he removes a bundle of pictures. With an almost religious care, he sets them upon his desk. Each one depicts the same woman. She is small, with black hair and a tanned complexion. The scenes are various, even a couple with her wearing what looks to be medieval armor, but Doug is only in one of them. That picture is placed back in the envelope. The others, numbering at least twenty, now stare back Doug.
"If nothing else, I can still look at you. I'm trying so hard to believe that I will see you again, but it gets harder every day. Remember that I'll always love you, hon."
He then turns back to his Harmonizor, sits on his bed in front of it, and begins to play. It starts off quiet and slow, barely audible even to him. Then the music builds. From the silence of a calm night it builds to the speed and loudness of a midnight storm. Finally, as the sound shakes the walls, it drops to an abrupt and utter silence. On the desk, a picture poised on the edge desk stands hesitantly, made unstable by the blasting melody, and then falls fluttering to the floor. Doug watches it through eyes wet with grief.
After moments of silent sorrow, he stands and replaces the photo. He turns around and draws in a deep breath. Then he returns to his instrument and begins to work on something new...
GM Notes:
Work on Warlock's robot proceeds smoothly. Its basic shape has been finished, but it has no programming as of yet.
At Number 6's invitation, the scientists come over to the space ship. Dr. Mendelson is in awe upon seeing the bridge.
David - "They did it.. They really did it... I've seen this ship in the blueprint stage. This is a long-range scout. Not really designed for combat, but speed. It appears that there was been some modifications to it. Powering up sensors. No success, I'm afraid. Either the satellites are damaged or malfunctioning. There's too much debris in orbit to determine for sure. We're not going to know until we get up there."
Ug's research turns up the following. Little info is available on the PSI section of the base. They sealed it off and pretty much forgot about. Rumor has it was haunted. (Which it was by Solitaire.)
The black forest is a mutation of the plants in the botany section of the base. It appears to be a collective intelligence, operating on a plant level. Several people have disappeared in the forest.
As for the oldest of the non-sleepers, that would be either Doug or Lord Lunatic. They both appeared at the same time with a being calling himself Slade. This person has since disappeared.
SUBJ: Black Tarantula FROM: AREION 04/29/90 S#: 458813
The madman called BLACK TARANTULA stares at the obstruction in his path; it takes his clouded mind long seconds to fully comprehend his dilemma. Adamant that he can't go back, he swings an open hand at the mist to find that it is quite solid. Without an instant's hesitation he slams his fist into it hard...two...three...then four times. The lack of damage to the structure only serves to infuriate him. He pounds his clench fists harder and harder into the obstruction, until he is hammering them in unison, from a recoil point above and behind his head (Haymakers).
When this has no effect (which I believe it won't) TARANTULA will take several steps back then lurch forward, slamming his body, full force into it (Move Through). He will retreat back farther and farther...giving himself move room to build up steam as he continues his assault until the wall gives or he collapses against it in exhaustion.

I will listen to what Doug has to say. "Thank you for that information. I am going to head down and explore the PSI Section of the base. If you would like to come along, I wouldn't mind but I would like some answers and I believe I may start getting them from down there. Then again, if my suspicions are true, things might start warming up someplace to stop me from finding something out."
I will let everyone know where I am heading and why if I run into them. I will also ask them if they would like to join me. I a going either alone or with who ever decide they wish to come along. (This is of course after my weapon has had time to recharge.)

I'll return to the engine room, continuing the repairs there. Once they reach a stage from which Fred can continue them for a while, I'll return to the base, and check with the computer concerning accelerated learning technology. "It's nothing. I'm just hurting a bit inside. Someone I lost a while ago, before I zapped myself here. Sometimes it makes me feel sad, and I play it out with music. Sorry if I bothered you..."
Then Ug drops by, with more questions. Doug listens, then replies.
"Actually, I've been here for not much more than a week. The ones who have been here longer are Black Tarantula, Beth, Number 6, and REM. There are a few others, but I haven't really gotten to know them. I also have heard rumors that people tend to disappear around here, like that silver guy that zapped in with Lord Lunatic and I. As for your theory about our investigations being stopped, I can't back them up. I just haven't been here long enough."
Then he listens to the plan to explore the base a bit more, and seems torn for a moment before deciding.

Lost Heroes #56 - "Time Out!"
Alpha Base was a buzz with activity.
In Beth's quarters, her and Rem opened their eyes from the journey into her Psi. They find Impact waiting for them.
Warlock has finished work on his own robot. It has taken its basic shape, but has no programming as of yet.
After a brief discussion, Ug, Doug and Outback head to the old PSI section of the base.
Lord Lunatic's activities are known only to him.
Outside the base, Tarantula attempts to climb the barrier to discover what happened to the stars.
In the space ship, Number 6 leaves Fred to continue the repairs. He exits the ship, walking towards the base. Dr. Mendelson is approaching him from the base.
David - "How go the---"
Suddenly he comes to a stop. A complete stop in mid stride, in mid-sentence. Number 6 questions him, but cannot get a response. Looking around he notices more strangeness.
The steadily blowing wind is gone. Not a sound can be heard. Dust borne sand is suspended in mid-air.
Somehow, everyone else seems immune to these phenomena.
Suddenly, everyone finds themselves in the meeting room. A woman in a flowing, scarf-like outfit stands at the head of the table.

To Outback: "I am no threat to you and I will not permit you to use violence. If I have insulted you, then I apologize. No malice was intended."

His hand is on his sword grip and his force field's strange aura becomes slightly visible. He seems almost... prepared for it? His muttering doesn't seem to make a lot of sense, either.
"I KNEW that it would happen before long. I wonder why I didn't feel it coming? I can usually sense it. More important, I wonder what trouble I'm in now."
After a moment of observing and listening, he relaxes. He is puzzled and somewhat awed by the "woman?" that brought all of this about. After a bit, he finds the voice to speak his own mind.
"You say the whole universe is in trouble? And that one guy is causing it? I might find it hard to believe, but you being here and acting so... extremely seems to give a bit of credibility. I don't know if I can believe you yet, but then again, can we afford NOT to believe you? That kind of leads me to my biggest question... Why can't save the universe by yourself, in evidence of such power you show. And how is a group like us supposed to help do battle with this guy?"
The questions are asked directly and with no mincing of words. What little force of will Doug has, he will use. If this is some elaborate hoax, then he doesn't want to be the butt of the joke. His mind trails back to the recent appearance of the false Tricia. The pangs of pain, confusion, and anger begin to arise again.
SUBJ: Number 6 FROM: Deslock 05/07/90 S#: 29045
"You'll forgive me if I display skepticism when you pop in here stating the universe is coming to an end. I'm a scientist, I'd like a little proof before I'm going to act upon a statement like that."
I'll move to the nearest computer console, and activate it.
"Computer, please analyze and report on the newcomer in our midst."
Still more answers:
To Doug: "You misunderstood me, Ermon is not directly responsible to the forth coming destruction of the universe, although he has ties to it. In spite of all my powers, I cannot directly interfere with the time stream. To do so would cause far worse disaster. Ermon shall be stopped shortly. As for saving the universe, you shall find the answer... in time."
Number 6 attempts to activate the computer, but nothing happens.
"That device will do you no good. We are currently in Null Time. I have suspended the flow of time so that we may have this meeting without the knowledge of Ermon."

Doug absorbs a bit more info, but only gets more confused.
"Pardon me if I seem dense, or uninformed, but I'm not sure I understand. Matter of fact, I don't think anyone really knows what's going on here but you. We're at a disadvantage. You say this Ermon guy ISN'T causing the "Fourth Coming of the Universe," or whatever you call it. I'm also at a loss as to what WE are going to be able to do to help. I mean, Hey! You've definitely gotten our undivided attention..."
