The Frontier #67
The war is over and the Seekers return to Gateway triumphant. They receive the rewards of their victory, plus the rewards from the vital information that they've learned.
Returning to their mansion, they settle in for a long stay after months out on the Frontier.
Finrod and Stephanie announce their engagement and that they will be married in a few short weeks.
The weeks roll past as you all train and perform your various personal tasks.
Arocken commissions a weaponsmith to make him a Longsword and Broadsword. They take 30 days to construct. He locates his new armor and purchases new clothing.
Validar locates an armored and has him begin to construct a suit of field plate. The task will take 16 weeks to complete, and Validar needs to make regular fitting trips during those 16 weeks. Your absence will delay the completion of the new armor.
The mages take advantage of Sharadin's extensive library and his huge laboratory. They are aided by either Sharadin himself or his twin daughter mages, Sherry and Terry.
The various other tasks are carried, such as supply food for the Seekers, hiring new servants, etc.
The feast held in your honor is a great success. Several other adventuring companies attend and you meet many other adventurers. You mingle late into the night.
The only real excitement during the month occurred early one morning when Bernice went to take a bath. It seems that Sheba decided to curl up in the tub during the night. The screams could have woken the dead... ;)
During this time, several novice adventurers appear at your door wishing to join your band.
Spectrum's Comments: And that's where the Bernice and Sheba in the bathtub incident ocurred.

One month will pass during this post. It is now the last day of July. The wedding is tomorrow!

SUBJ: Stephanie
I join in one the festivities after Fin makes our announcement. I drink mead freely all the while staring at him over my mug. I somewhat regret wearing this beautiful new dress when I realize how tight it is. A fear that the slightest flex may rip it!
I smile widely when Bernice announces that she is going to be the Maid of Honor.
"That saves me the trouble of asking, Bernice. We have much work to do in the days to come. Are you ready for the task?"
I also approach Zynara and ask to speak to her in private.
"Zynara, I know that we have talked little since you joined the Seekers. I regret that now. We women need to stick together. I would be honored if you could also be of assistance in this time. I fear that I know little of about the little things that all women should know.
"I was raised on a farm and started to work in the fields when I was old enough. My mother died when I was very young. My father, while a fine man, could not school me in those things a woman should know. In fact, I tried to put this dress on backwards! I never wore a dress before, nor have I ever had my hair made up. I guess, what I'm trying to say is, will you help me learn these things?"
Returning the celebrations, I drink my fill of mead. Late that night, I realize that Fin has surpassed his limit and has gotten incredibly silly.
When he starts spouting erotic elven poetry, I realize that he's had enough. I lift him into my arms and see that he's properly tucked in.
Over the next few days, with the girls help, I'll see what Gateway has to offer in the way of clothes. What an experience shopping for dresses for the first time!
Zynara is a tremendous help in this matter, while getting Bernice to sit still for a fitting is next to impossible!
I'll also greatly increase my own wardrobe. It seems my old adventuring outfit needs to be replaced. I could not expect my future husband to approve of me running around in that skimpy clothing!
Also using my share of the account, I'll buy some jewelry. Mostly headbands, armbands and necklaces.
I study hard in my training sessions and the instructor is pleased with my progress. I learn how to wield the shortsword properly during my classes.
One day, I accompany Finrod to Sharadin's residence and have the mage Identify my equipment.
The night of the great feast I don my blue dress again. I wear a beautiful necklace that Zynara picked out for me.
I am not prepared for the large crowd that awaits us there. It seems that several other groups of adventurers are in attendance. I remain quiet for the most part, choosing to stay near Fin's side.
What's that I see? A crowd of young woman surrounding Noble Validar? And who is that halfling with Bernice? ;D
We leave the party early that night, using the excuse that I am tired. Me and Fin walk hand in hand through the nearly empty streets back to the mansion. With everyone away, we have the place to ourselves. ;D
With all the activities going on with us, we find that the nights are the only time we spend together. I ask Fin to teach me how to read. I find the task frustrating at times, almost to the point of tears. But with his help, we make progress. I can hardly wait to try and learn Elvish!
Time passes all too quickly and the day approaches. I try to relax, but find it impossible.
When the New Seekers arrive, I greet them as time permits.
You see a tall, muscular woman. Steph has long black hair and black eyes.
Spectrum's Comments: Steph was unusually long winded in these posts, but she had a lot of ground to cover.
SUBJ: FINROD (R) FROM: SGT STONEY 11/24/90 S#: 480634
At the party, Finrod is most pleased with the effect produced by the dress he had secretly sent to Stephanie. It seems as if the slightest flex will cause it to shred and fall from her body! It sets off her lithe, muscular frame so well, that Fin makes it a point to tip the young girl that he sent to buy the dress extremely well. She did an excellent job!
And with such beauty to inspire him, can it be any wonder that once he is a little in his cups he should be minded of the erotic poetry of his homeland? The melodic, golden tones of the Elven tongue seem to describe so well, the easy, lithe flow of his loved-one's body!
As the training process goes on, Finrod commissions' two longbows made for himself-- one to have as a spare in case another lightning bolt should claim his primary one again. He replaces his worn wardrobe, as well, and carefully assembles a list of items to place within the chest of security against such time, as they will be needed.

This is one more than he is allowed to learn, but it is probable that he will blow at least one roll, and this is the order of desirability.
At some point during the month it will occur to the poor doomed elf that if he is to be enslaved by love, then he must have a best man to place the ceremonial chains. Hesitantly, he approaches Validar.
"Ummm...look, Val, uh, I know you and I have our differences--I mean, after all, you ARE a noble, and I DO work for my living. But all that aside, you are as close as I have ever come to having a friend. Would you... I mean, might you... I mean, uh, could you be my Best Man at the wedding?"

When the party rode in to Gateway after the battle, the populace saw a Blond, Blue-eyed Elven warrior riding beside the fine figure cut by Stephanie. He is handsome, after a fashion, and was dressed in worn but serviceable studded leather armor, covered by a dirty woolen cloak of some dark hue that may once have been green, or gray, or black. Once the party settles in to training, however, he dresses in fine clothing of black and gray silk. Although clad not in armor in town, one evening in one of the inevitable brawls in a bar, a drunkard's knife snaps on Fin's flesh, as if he were clad in some invisible form of armor! The confused and terrified drunk fled the scene. :)

After hearing Fin and Steph announce their wedding plans, Blods mind starts to reel with thoughts of Zynara and wedlock. He has thought of it often in the last few weeks, but never had the courage to ask (even though he helped face down a dragon). Finally, after the Homecoming feast, when he and Zynara are alone, he bends to one knee, and proposes marriage in the tradition of his people.
"Zynara, My Love. Wilt thou take my hand in Holy Matrimony?" When she says yes , Blod will take her hand, and gently kiss it. Tears of Joy are streaming down his face and he experiences happiness like he has never experienced before in his life.
The next day, they will approach Fin and Steph, asking if they would mind having a double ceremony.

First a question: Does the gp figure include all the coins we found or both coins and jewels, gems, etc.?
Backtracking a bit:
The first dinner back in Gateway goes well. It is good to enjoy suitable fare after having eaten so many meals in the field. It is also a time of revelry and fellowship and storytelling between the Seekers. Suddenly, the raucousness is broken by the entrance of a beauty dressed in blue.
Validar does a mild double take seeing Stephanie for the first time dressed in finery. What a transformation!
"It seems that your fears regarding your beauty are unfounded, fair Stephanie. And I am certain that such a view is shared by all at this table."
The celebration continues, but while Validar appears to enjoy himself, his drink is conservative. His appetite is another matter entirely however.
When the loving couple returns bearing tidings of marriage, Validar offers a toast to his friends.
"May the two of them find happiness and joy as they begin a life anew. I wish them the best in all things as they take this joyous step in their young lives. To Stephanie and Finrod, may your love live eternal."
Later, as the celebration continues yet, Validar will talk with Finrod.
"Congratulations, my friend. You have found yourself the love of a fine woman. I suspected this would come one day, but for a while thought you might have blown it. That little escapade with Wendelaine was almost your downfall. I am pleased that things righted themselves and am happy for you."
In the time before the Feast, Validar will make a point to have his personal items ID'd along with those that are 'community property'. Once we are certain of their functions, we can better distribute said items.
Therefore, Seekers, if there are items in this category that you have been using and you would like to keep, or would like to have, please make a note of it once our distinguished GM posts the results. Otherwise, I will be on my own as to making the presentations.
Validar is somewhat surprisingly absent from the service for our deceased comrades. He offers no explanation and will deflect any inquiries from the subject.
At the Feast, Validar will arrive in a white military outfit. In place of any unit designation, he wears a badge displaying his coat-of-arms. Again, he drinks sparingly but eats heartily.
Stories of his and the Seekers' exploits are shared with the various adventuring companies throughout the celebrations. Validar enjoys the companionship of the young beauties he meets and is later seen with a few of them throughout the town, though rarely with more than one at any time.

In the weeks to follow, Validar manages to deplete some of his personal treasury. He is quite accustomed to an expensive, if not opulent, existence. Also, as time goes on, he is seen more in the company of one young lady in particular. She is a dark-haired beauty with gleaming green eyes, by the name of Gabriela. Also, during the month of this post, Validar will hire a messenger to journey to Pyris to inform the Baron of his travels.
When Finrod approaches Validar regarding the ceremony, Validar is somewhat surprised.
"Is it not funny how things change with time, my friend? I remember a time not all that long ago when we could not see eye to eye on anything, even coming to blows. "
"I shall accept the honor you do me, friend Finrod. I had not expected such a request, but will do so gladly!"
And Validar cannot help but smirk at the vision in his mind's eye: Surely they could not have picked a more contrasting pair for this ceremony than Bernice and myself!

But I feel that there is a bond of trust between us such as I have felt with no other Male in my life. I am honored that you are willing to serve in my Wedding, and will not soon forget the favor you do me."
"Blod, I am surprised that you would wish to hold a double ceremony...where I come from such things are considered bad luck. But, if Steph wishes to add the joy of the two occasions together, I will go with her decision on the matter. Would it not be better, though, to hold the weddings one week apart, so that our friends may have the joy of TWO celebrations?"

The mage continues his errant travels in the next month, constantly exploring the city, looking into old tomes of forgotten lore, listening to gossip, and so on. Rather than a powerful invoker, he seems more interested in information, ANY information.
In the days to come, Claudius will have his personal effects identified (I think I have a ring in particular. I think) and add three daggers (two normal, one silver preferably) to his repertoire.
He begins to grow restless towards the end of the month, though, and can often be heard mumbling that this is taking too long, and that it is time, as soon as possible, to take care of this war once and for all...

Claudius does pick up on one interesting rumor concerning Shadowkeep. A band of adventurers' intent on plundering the fallen Emperor's treasure could not reach the keep. Some mysterious magic prevented them from approaching within 10 miles of the site of the Keep.
Rumors and gossip run rampant on this subject. Could Kelnar, the former Emperor of Keln, still be alive? What really did happen in the final confrontation between Keln and Cynalon? Could Keln be gathering his strength to start the war anew?
Lots of questions, no answers...

When Stephanie asks if I would help make a lady out of her, I smile, "I would be honored for such a beautiful lady as you. Now the first thing we do is......."
I teach Steph all I know. When we go shopping, I even ask the wives of the shopkeepers to help. (The male shopkeepers find I do a lot more buying from a lady salesperson than a man. When given no choice, I will do my best with the men.
When Blod asks if I will marry him, "YES!" I then give him a big kiss and hug. When it is mentioned that it is bad luck to have a double wedding, "Blod, let us delay a week as suggested. I am more knowledgeable in languages than marriage ceremonies. Anyway, it will make things easier for preparation. I won't have to be helping Steph as I am trying to get ready for my own wedding."
Later I will approach Steph, "Steph, we have been having a lot of fun of late shopping and all, how would you like some more fun? Would you be my maid of honor?" If she says yes, we go out shopping again. (See even back in the ol' days us women loved shopping. :) )
At the big bash, I keep close to Blod. I don't crowd him when he gets around the guys but when another female comes around, I am there.
When the items I have are ID'd, I also ask if they can give me an idea of about how many charges are on them. I also shop for some clothes and a wedding dress.
For the new people, Zynara is 5' 11" and weighs between 120-135#. She has golden blonde hair that reaches her knees when she doesn't have it in a bun. Her eyes are emerald green with silver flecks. My eyes turn more silver around Blod for some reason.

Early one morning Arocken will congratulate Fin in his choice "A fairer maiden could not be found in any land elven or no, I congratulate thee!"

The change in Stephanie over the last month has been amazing. First she's learned to dress like a woman and not a man. Her hair is usually done up in some fashion, not hanging down like a mop. Her walk has even changed, as all the men have noticed! :D
Me, Zynie and Bernie see alot of each other, talking, shopping and doing girl things together. :D

The band known as the Seekers continues their interlude within the city, discovering the true power of their possessions and preparing festivities for their multiple weddings. One morning, a knock is heard upon their mansion door. Opening the door reveals a brown-haired human of average height, wearing a dazzling red cloak. He smiles as the door is opened, and speaks his first words to a Seeker.
"Greetings, brave one. I am Armon Flamehilt, master storyteller, traveler, and jack of all trades. I've kept myself occupied in fair Gateway for the last few months, searching for adventure and hoping it would find me. At long last, it appears it has. I'm aware, as most that travel these parts are, that a large battle recently occurred over this valued city. I'm also aware that you and your company played a crucial part in this struggle. Therefore, I've decided to seek you out, so that I might join your travels. I beg of you, will you allow a humble bard to join your glorious band?"
With this said, Armon bows low before the Seeker at the door, awaiting approval, and secretly praying he hasn't just embarrassed himself in front of one of the caretakers.
Spectrum's Comments: Yes, this is the same Omni Tuens from the Sword of Doom with a new character for this game.

"Unless anyone has an objection..", the invoker says one night, "I'd like to lay claim to the lightning wand. Being an invoker, perhaps I can get better use out of it since I have some knowledge of such spells, and it certainly adds to my worth in this war."
He will freely share any and all rumors concerning Shadowkeep, and will start researching/asking about that with anyone who'll listen (also employing ancient History...please write, Mad :))
Claudius is a slightly pale human, standing slightly below average in height, and thin besides that. He has brown hair worn a bit long, and blue piercing eyes. He buys/wears a blue doublet and hose, with a billowing bright red cloak, not really noticing how badly the colors clash.

"I will do anything for you, My Love!" Blod says, agreeing to postpone the wedding a week.
While waiting for the ceremonies, Blod will go to a weapon smith and have 2 lances constructed for him. He will also visit a bowyer/fletcher and purchase a stout long bow and a score each of sheaf and flight arrows. He will also continue to train, working as hard as possible.
After a particularly rigorous day on the practice field with Validar, Blod approaches Validar and says "Friend Validar. Would you possibly consider being Best Man at a second wedding? I would consider it a great Honor if you would stand with me."
Blod would like his stuff ID'ed. In case I did not mention it before, I did want to keep the Gauntlets of Fumbling. (Make a nice present or joke, eh? ;D)

Blod stands nearly 7 ft. tall. He is quite muscular and huge. He always has a grin on his face, unless facing something serious. Just putting some things in writing for our great leader to decide on.
I would like to keep the Rod of Security in my possession. I can think of a couple of uses for it other than resting on an adventure. :) As for the wand of Enemy Detection and Wand of Fear I am currently carrying, I will continue to carry them for the group if so decided. The ED wand can be used by anyone though and the Fear wand I believe can be used by one of our clerics as well as the mages. I would like to speak up and ask for the Necklace of Adaptation. I would also be interested in finding out more about the Book of Silver Magic. This doesn't mean I want the book, I would just like to know who can use it to it's full potential.

To the newcomers: Validar stands a touch over six foot and is muscular, but not overly so. His brown hair is kept short and simple and a mustache adorns his face. His eyes are also brown in color. He has a noble bearing about him, and while in Gateway dresses simply, but in clothing of very good quality. For any official happenings, Validar wears an all-white military style uniform. In the place of any unit rank or designation, he wears a badge displaying his coat of arms: an ebon griffon, with red beak and claws, on a field of blue and silver.
In adventure situations, Validar will be seen in a suit of field plate armor covered by a tabard that also displays his coat of arms. The same is also painted upon his shield.
"Very well, since no one seems to object, Claudius you may have the Wand of Lightning. Zynara can have the Necklace of Adaptation. She will also continue to carry the Wand of Fear, since as we have no clerics in our band at this time, there is no one else to utilize it. Except of course for Claudius, but I would like to be able to bring to bear the powers of both wands at the same time, should that ever be necessary again."
"I believe that the Wand of Enemy Detection, however, would be best used by our scouts and therefore, while remaining community property, I would like Arocken to carry it."
"Just a side note to our professional shoppers, try not to go overboard. The fund is for all of us, which may include some that are not here. Just try not to be too excessive or I'll have to split up the account and distribute it around." ;)
When Blod approaches myself with his request, Validar is still slightly surprised:
"Well now, this is quite interesting. I had not expected to receive such an honor but once, and I am offered it twice in one week's time. Of course, I will accept the honor. And again, may I offer congratulations to you and your lovely bride. Would that it were possible to CHOOSE to fall in love with such a striking beauty. I hope you bring each other much happiness."
Interesting. It seems that the Seekers seem to hold a higher opinion of Validar now than at any time in the past. I'm not sure if I'm happy or disappointed. ;]

The Libram of Silver Magic, Zynara, Benefits Lawful Good, Neutral Good, and Chaotic Good mages by raising them to the midpoint of their next level.Unfortunately, That includes all three of us mages, so we are no closer to deciding who gets to use it. I, for one, would like to point out that the character who would gain the most NET EXPERIENCE POINTS from it is myself, being both the highest level, and also a Multi-Class (both you and Claudius should soon exceed me in spell-casting ability). Just an Idea. :)
Also, I have a good history of passing on magic items to the newer characters as I get better ones...Remember the Shortsword I gave to Bernice? At the time I gave it up, It could have been a +3 for all I knew, and the longsword I was getting might have been a +1, but at least the longsword gives me my elven bonus, which the short-sword did not, and Bernie couldn't use the longsword anyway.While we are on that subject...I've been looking back over the posts looking for when I got the +1 Shield (never realized I had it). I finally found out that Our Noble Clerical Leader gave it to me during one of my three-week absences... being part thief, I am unable to make best use of the thing...I can only use it when I don't plan on operating as a thief for a while. Does anyone particularly NEED this Item? If no one speaks up before the wedding, I am going to give it to Steph as a wedding gift (Don't breathe a word of this to HER!). So speak up or forever hold your ...er...normal shield. :)
