Lord Evil is an experienced sorcerer who mixes magic and technology. He has used various enchantments to increase his own physical abilities.

Lord Evil is an Earthman who found himself stranded on Terra Nova over forty years ago. At the time he was a Navy Technician serving on board the USS Eldridge. The Eldridge was part of an experiment to make the ship invisible to radar by using intense magnetic fields. Not only did the ship become invisible to radar, it actually vanished from Earth's dimension. The magnetic fields had opened a doorway in between dimensions through which the ship passed. The man who would become Lord Evil panicked and leapt overboard. When he came around he found himself stranded on the magic dominated world of Terra Nova.

The man wandered Terra Nova for many years. At first each day was a struggle to survive, but the man adapted and became more in tune with the lifestyle on the magical alternate Earth. He learned to kill for survival and without regret. He also studied and learned the art of spellcasting, in spite of how impossible such a thing was based on his upbringing. In time the man became Lord Evil, a powerful sorcerer who was amoral and indifferent to the welfare of others. Only the attainment of his goals mattered.

The decades passed and Lord Evil began to age. He used magic potions to keep himself young and other potions and enchantments to increase his physical strength, speed, and stamina. For the most part, Lord Evil kept to himself and out of the power struggles so common to Terra Nova.

That all changed one day when he spotted Ashley. She was young and beautiful and a powerful sorceress in her own right. For the first time Lord Evil felt love. Ashley found Lord Evil intriguing and the two began a passionate romance that led to the couple being married. Ashley was a member of a group of sorceress who served the Empress of Darkness, Lady Darkness. Lord Evil joined with Ashley on her missions for the dreaded Empress.

After a time, Ashley was selected for the honor of the Joining. She disappeared into a private chamber with the black clad Lady Darkness. Hours later, Ashley emerged covered in the same blackness as the previous Empress. Ashley was now the new Lady Darkness, the Empress of the Empire. The change in stature greatly elevated Lord Evil in Terra Novan society. He was now the consort to the most powerful woman on the Northern Continent. It was role that gave him great power and one he came to greatly enjoy.

In spite of all he now had, Lord Evil still missed his home world. Ruling the Empire occupied most of Ashley's time, giving Lord Evil plenty of free time on his hands. He searched the great library of Shadowhold for a way to return home. Lord Evil researched a incantation that should return him to Earth, but was hesitant to use it.

The Empire's campaign to conqueror the Kingdom of Cynalon was failing. Strange and powerful beings were protecting the Kingdome, forcing Lady Darkness and Lord Evil to personally enter the conflict. Unknownst to the two, the Cynalonian court wizard had summoned a team of heroes from Lord Evil's homeworld Earth. Unprepared for such powerful beings, the two were near defeat when Lord Evil cast the spell he researched as a means of escape. Upon the completion of the spell, the couple found themselves on Earth.

But this was not the Earth Lord Evil was familiar with. Incredible technological advances had taken place during the forty years he had spent on Terra Nova. Lord Evil was now a stranger on his own homeworld. Lady Darkness was even more out of place. Even worse, when they attempted to return to Terra Nova, they discovered that a powerful enchantment had been raised blocking their passage back. They were now stranded on Earth.

The pair took on the identities of Lord and Lady Carrington, members of the wealthy British Upper Crust, granting them great wealth. Given their natural magic skills, the couple soon fell in with the organization known as DEMON and rose high in rank. At the direction of Lord Thorne, Lady Darkness and Lord Evil were given command of the New York City base after its previous masters mysteriously disappeared.

For Lord Evil and Lady Darkness it was an alliance of convenience. DEMON might be useful in the acquisition of magic items that could help get them back to Terra Nova. Ashley kept watch for artifacts that could increase their powers while Lord Evil worked towards a technological solution to their problem.

Lord Evil theorized that if he could duplicate the Eldridge Experiment, then perhaps he and Ashley could return to Terra Nova. Using magic to speed up the learning process, Lord Evil quickly re-educated himself on the technology of the modern world. He uncovered the data on the original Eldridge Experiment and set out to create a device to duplicate the effect, but on a much smaller scale. He dubbed his creation the Portal Device. A variety of supervillains were secretly hired to procure components of the device.

While this was going on, the pair's plan crossed paths with the Avengers. The couple manipulated friction between the Avengers and PRIMUS by capturing Lightburst and then having a disguised Chameleon rob a bank as the hero. A confrontation occurred and while the heroes were preoccupied, Lady Darkness and Lord Evil raided the PRIMUS base. Lady Darkness came into possession of the Stone Crown, a magical artifact that amplified her magical and psionic abilities.

The continued interference of the Avengers forced Lord Evil and Lady Darkness to fake their own capture. The Chameleon was called upon to impersonate Lord Evil. The plan worked and it appeared that the DEMON Base had fallen and the Morbanes captured.

Now free to work, Lord Evil completed the Portal Device and activated it, sending Lady Darkness back to Terra Nova. While she was gone, the Portal Device was used on two other occasions each time reaching a new and different Earth. Almost a week after departing, Lady Darkness returned after restoring herself to the throne of the Empire. The various factions in the Empire all struggled to claim the empty throne in her absence. Even better, the barrier blocking their return had been removed.

The couple remained on Earth while Shadowhold was being prepared for the Empress return. The time of the Joining came once more and two Earth sorceresses were chosen for the honor. On the day of the Joining, Earth heroes attacked the Carrington Estate. While Lady Darkness' enslaved supervillains battled the invaders, the Imperial Couple fled back to Terra Nova with the two new Lady Darknesses. Now back home, the couple are looking to continue their plans of conquest on multiple Earths.
