Captain Valor possesses super-human strength and healing powers. He has the power of flight and is somewhat resistant to injury and harmful environments. Additionally, Captain Valor is skilled in hand-to-hand combat.
Notes:
Captain Valor is one of those characters who is hard to pigeonhole. He is beyond normal human range in strength, but not classified as a true brick. Likewise, he is a skilled martial artist but lacks the agility normally associated with a fighting specialist. His flight is rather poor, but he does heal quickly. Rather, Valor is a hodge-podge of powers.
The Captain has yet to reveal just how he gained his superpowers. He does not detect as a mutant, but they could still be something he has possessed since birth. Valor himself likes to spin fantastic tales to cover origin questions. Among his favorites are that he's from another planet, he was struck by a green argonite meteorite, or that he drank a test serum in an experiment. The truth is anyone's guess.
To say that Captain Valor has an ego problem is an understatement. He is supremely confident in his abilities, and has no problem in sharing this with those around him. Valor fancies himself a ladies man, but his attitude tends to put them off more than attract them.
Captain Valor has been a long-time Avenger, and a founding member. Valor and Hunter were the only Avengers to have been with the team from formation until the incident when the Crystal destroyed the Avengers Mansion. Captain Valor's body was never found in the wreckage, leading to much conjecture as to his current state and whereabouts.
The truth about Captain Valor's fate is a bit more complicated. Moment's before the explosion that destroyed the Avengers Mansion, Valor was under direct mind control by the Crystal. It ordered Captain Valor to insert its fifth shard. Upon doing so, the Crystal tried to absorb Valor as it had done with the Morbanes Lady Zee and Lord Shadow. However, this process was interrupted when Sargon and the Black Tiger attacked the Crystal.
With the transference process incomplete, Captain Valor was trapped between two worlds. (Those absorbed by the Crystal were sent to its place of origin.) For many weeks, Valor floated in this featureless void between dimensions barely clinging to life. This all changed when the Crystal returned Lady Zee, Lord Shadow, and the others it had absorbed to Earth to act as its agents. This transference caused Valor to become 'unstuck' between dimensions. Captain Valor was drawn back to the place where he had disappeared from: the Avengers Mansion. He appeared several times as a momentarily ghostly apparition.
One of these appearances was noted by the Enchantress, who had spells to alert her to Crystal-based magic taking place. She entered the Avengers Dining Room as Captain Valor was beginning to fade into Earth's Dimension. Fearing it to be an attack, the Enchantress cast a counter-spell and Captain Valor was tossed into the dimension where the Crystal originated.
The next thing Captain Valor knew he was on a beach on the alternate Earth called Terra Nova. Here, he was found and nursed back to health by Kaloni, the native protector of the Tanbora Islands. Once recovered, Captain Valor discovered that Terra Nova, while similar to Earth in someways, was actually very different. Monsters and creatures thought only to be myths on Earth were real here. Magic dominated in place of technology. Captain Valor earned the favor of the natives by indirectly slaying Rocara, a gigantic bird that terrorized the islands.
A few weeks later while trying to stave off an invading force of slavers, Captain Valor encountered the Terra Novan version of the Avengers. Some of the faces were the same, but for the most part, these were very different people. Black Diamond was the woman-warriror Lyndah, Nightingale a Priestess of the Goddess Azrella, and so on. The Avengers were on a mission to restore the soul of the Hunter of Evil. With Captain Valor's help, the Avengers reached the Temple of Souls and restored Hunter.
Having little else to do, Captain Valor joined up with the Avengers and is currently traveling across the Great Southern Sea towards the Northern Continent where the Avengers are in mortal combat with the forces of the Empress of Darkness. While en route, the sea sorceress Vina attacked the Windsabre in an attempt to capture Friza for the Empress. She failed in her attempt, but did damage the Windsabre, forcing it to make landfall at a small chain of islands.
Upon reaching the islands, Captain Valor located a hidden city shielded by rocky cliffs. The Windsabre docked at the hidden city to make repairs, while Captain Valor and the other Avengers went to explore. While getting up close and personal with Lyndah, she and Valor were attacked by an iron golem in the shape of another Earthly Avenger named Density. The pair were captured by the mage Warlock and he attempted to transfer the soul of his wife Density from her iron golem prison and into Lyndah's body. The attempt failed and Warlock was accidentlally killed when the Density Golem fell upon him.
Lyndah and Captain Valor have become lovers, much to the annoyance of Robert of the Forests who secretly has a crush on the swordswoman.
Captain Valor was created by Spectrum and drawn by Muskateer.
