CR 571 June

GM Notes: At the end of May, the Seekers had defeated the occupants of the Hextor Temple in Whispering Hollow. While the wounded rest and recover at the local inn, the rest of the Seekers search the temple for the missing Ti-Cat and Wendy.

June 1st –

(The Frontier) Finrod discovers that the altar in the Hextor temple can be moved and finds stairs leading down underneath it. The Seekers go down the stairs that end at a long hallway. Several doors are noted including one that seems to provide entry to a vast treasure room. Footprints on the floor tell a different story and that a concealed door is in the hallway. The Seekers break down the concealed door and behind it is a large room with a pit in the middle. Chests and weapon and armor stands are along the walls of the room. A Forbidance spell is in effect and it prevents several Seekers from entering the room. Skeletons start to emerge from the pit. The undead are defeated and more magic items and wealth is found. There is no sign of Ti-Cat or Wendy in the temple. The Seekers return to town, hand out the magic items gained and rest for the evening. Cereld gains the Blessing of Heironeous, a special battleaxe of his sect. Dar selects a green dragon slaying sword. (TF#24-27)

GM Notes: The Blessing of Heironeous allows the holder to cast a Bless spell once per day.

June 2nd –

(The Frontier) Now fully healed, the Seekers set out to find Wendy and/or the Mountain Monster. They reach the Hodkin's place and find tracks of the Mountain Monster leading off in the general direction of the old mage tower Wendy's father was said to be using. The trip to the tower takes most of the day and the Seekers find it in ruins. The upper floor of the tower has collapsed and the walls have many holes in them. The tower does not look to be safe. More Mountain Monster tracks are spotted leading away from the tower and deeper into the woods. The Seekers explore the tower and find a ruined mage lab in the basement. Cryptic notes are found that are believed to be from Wendy's father and Wendy's footprints are found here. Continuing on, the Seekers follow the Mountain Monster's trail and find an old mine an hour from the ruined tower. Cereld sends the scouts in to explore the mine. They find footprints from both Wendy and the Mountain Monster. They are attacked by the Mountain Monster. Finrod hits the beast with a Color Spray spell and it illuminates the hideous creature. Its a monster golem, a creature composed of different monster body parts! The scouts lead the monster outside the mine so they can fight it in wide open spaces. Once it is outside, the Seekers attack the Mountain Monster and manage to slay it. Right after it falls, Wendy attacks the Seekers with a Fireball. Many of the Seekers fall from this cowardly attack. Arafel, Dalliance, Finius and Dantar are killed. A Magic Missile from Wendy kills Validar. Wendy is wounded and retreats back into the mine. The Seekers follow and Wendy is overpowered and captured. She is questioned by Finrod and he believes her to be insane as she believes the Mountain Monster was her 'brother'. The Seekers rest for the night in the abandoned mine. (TF#27-32)

Roster of the Seekers: Cereld (PL), Araduin, Arathron, Dar Thaltus, Finrod, Raeden, and Stephanie.

GM Notes: Major house cleaning going on here. All of the players slain had been gone from the game for a while and so were taken out. Lord Validar did return and as later revealed in New Frontiers, it was Heironeous who did the deed. The still dead bodies of Arafel and Dalliance did return in New Frontiers as part of the attack on Duke Relon's caravan on its last leg to Elcadan starting in New Frontiers #102.

June 3rd -

(The Frontier) Come the morning the dead Seekers are buried. The remaining Seekers then ride back to Whispering Hollow where they are welcomed as heroes once more. Raeden announces that he is staying in Whispering Hollow. The Seekers relax in Whispering Hollow to recover from their recent adventures. New gear is handed out and new spells are learned by the mages. (TF#33)

Roster of the Seekers: Cereld (PL), Araduin, Arathron, Dar Thaltus, Finrod, and Stephanie.

June 6th -

(The Frontier) The Seekers depart Whispering Hollow after resting for a few days. Their destination is Gateway, so that Wendy can be brought to justice for her crimes. New members join during this down time, including the tall warrior Blod, Eagle of Heironeous, Bernice, a halfling finder, an elfin warrior/mage named Desmond, Kaan the Bard, Rathin, a rogue, Kamreill of Heironeous, and the elfin ranger Arocken of Ehlonna. Telinos the Ranger and Valgrin the bard join up at seemingly the last moment. (TF#33-34)

Roster of the Seekers: Cereld (PL), Araduin, Arathron, Arocken, Bernice, Blod, Dar Thaltus, Desmond, Eagle, Finrod, Kaan, Kamreill, Rathin, Stephanie, Telinos, and Valgrin.

GM Notes: And with the removal of inactive players it was time to add new ones. Of this bunch Blod, Bernice and Arocken are still around as part of The New Seekers in New Frontiers.

June 9th –

(The Frontier) The Seekers reach the area where they noted the passage of an army of goblins before. There they are attacked by a pride of griffons. The griffons are easily defeated/driven off and the Seekers ride north, retracing their route back to Gateway. (TF#34-35)

June 11th –

(The Frontier) In the predawn light, a rider is seen approaching the camp from the direction of Whispering Hollow. Much to the shock of the Seekers, it is Lord Vanarkus, seemingly risen from the grave! He claims to have woken up in the forest just a little bit ago and a short distance away. There was a horse waiting for him and he rode it back to the main group. Lord Vanarkus gets the Seekers to accept that it is him, but then he spies Wendy still among the group and seeks vengeance. Finrod intercepts him. Harsh words are exchanged and then magic and steel. Wendy rushes to stop the fighting. She trips and impales herself on Finrod and Lord Vanarkus' swords and dies. Wendy is buried and the Seekers ride on, putting the whole affair with the traitorous wench behind them. With Wendy dealt with, the Seekers retrace their steps and ride after the goblin army instead of returning to Gateway. (TF#35-36)

Roster of the Seekers: Cereld (PL), Araduin, Arathron, Arocken, Bernice, Blod, Dar Thaltus, Desmond, Eagle, Finrod, Kaan, Kamreill, Rathin, Stephanie, Telinos, Valgrin, and Lord Validar.

June 15th –

(The Frontier) Following the path of the goblin army, the Seekers come across a valley. The goblins circled around the valley rather than take the shorter route. A group of scouts is sent ahead of the main group of Seekers. The scouts are ambushed by Fomorian Giants, hideously mutated monsters. The giants are defeated and the Seekers search the cave the giants used as a lair. In the cave they find Zynara, a mage who has a snake familiar named Sheba. Zynara joins the Seekers. Given just how large the Seekers have grown with all the new members, eighteen of them in all, Cereld and Lord Vanarkus become co-leaders of the Seekers. In the days that follow Blod and Zynara become close. (TF#37-39)

Roster of the Seekers: Cereld and Lord Validar (PL), Araduin, Arathron, Arocken, Bernice, Blod, Dar Thaltus, Desmond, Eagle, Finrod, Kaan, Kamreill, Rathin, Stephanie, Telinos, Valgrin, and Zynara.

GM Notes: Zynara was another new addition and one that also carries over into return of the Seekers in New Frontiers. While the change in leadership from Cereld to Lord Vanarkus was still a ways off, it made sense to have them be co-leaders earlier to make the transition smoother. Cereld's player was gone from Q-Link, so he needed to be replaced.

June 19th –

(The Frontier) Having followed the trail of the goblin army for over a week, the Seekers reach the main Keln Road once more. Far to the west lies Gateway, while the ruins of a city can be seen to the east. Numerous campfires are spotted coming from the ruins. Scouts are sent out to explore the ruins while others go off into the woods to hunt for food. The rest of the Seekers set up camp. The scouts return and it is revealed the ruins are held by many orcs with Priests of Hextor controlling them. Oddly enough, the Hextorites converse with something concealed in a grove in the ruins, but the scouts cannot make it out. It appears that the orcs are another army unit being used by the Hextorites. They are being prepared to march on Gateway soon! Cereld and Lord Vanarkus iron out a strategy to attack the city the next morning and remove this threat. (TF#40-41)

June 20th -

(The Frontier) In the predawn light, the Seekers split up into three groups to begin their attack on the orcs and Hextor priests in the ruins. One group consists of Araduin, Bernice, Dar Thaltus, Kaan and Rathin. They enter the city, avoiding patrols, and reach one of the remaining guard towers. Once close to the tower, Kaan casts the Phantasmal Force of a large green fireball in the air overhead, the sign for everyone to start the attack. A patrol of orcs spots them and the group rushes into the tower and barricades themselves inside. The group fights their way to the top of the tower, removing enemies as they go. The door at the base of the tower gives way and Kaan rushes back down to stop the incoming orcs. The bard hits them with a Sleep spell ending their threat. Dar rushes to assist him but finds it not necessary. Kaan then rushes out to engage other orcs while screaming at the top of his lungs. Dar rushes off into the city having seen the occupant of the grove stir-- a green dragon!

The second group of Seekers contains Finrod, Araduin, Eagle, Arocken, and Valgrin. Upon seeing the green fireball, the group moves into town. Their objective is to reach the center of town and use Web Spells to block streets and channel the enemy onto a specific path. A patrol spots them, but Araduin puts them to Sleep with a spell. The group then puts up the webs to channel the orcs. More orcs appear, but are driven off or slain by magic. A larger group moves to attack, but most are driven off by use of a Wand of Fear. The heroes whittle down the remaining orcs and finally drive the last of them off using the Wand of Fear again. While they recover from the battle, they spot the green dragon over the webs.

The remaining Seekers are tasked to assaulting the Hextor Temple itself. They approach the temple near the stables and the orcs tending to horses there flee upon seeing the Seekers. The group enters the Temple and finds its layout similar to the one in Whispering Hollow, minus the terraces around the main altar. At the altar three individuals are strapped the slabs and their blood is being drained. Moving deeper into the temple, more tortured prisoners are found. Finally, the enemy priests are found and battle ensues. The priests are all slain in a vicious battle. Telinos and Kamreill are killed and Blod is badly wounded. The roar of the green dragon is heard and the Seekers assaulting the temple ride off to confront it.

The Seekers unite to face the menace of Woodstalker, the green dragon. Dar bravely fights the reptile alone with his dragonslaying sword, but is overcome and nearly killed. The archers fire numerous arrows, but do little damage to the monster. Lord Vanarkus rides in and stabs the dragon with his lance, doing serious damage. The dragon bites him in retaliation and knocks him off of his warhorse. Blod, Stephanie and Finrod come in from the flank, but do little damage to the dragon. Cereld and Eagle reach Dar and pull him to safety. Healing magic saves the ranger's life. Woodstalker flies off and then comes back over the ruins breathing chlorine gas over his attackers. Blod and Lord Vanarkus fall from the attack. Cereld restores Validar's health and the nobleman instructs Stephanie to use her bow to bring the dragon back down to the ground. Eagle assists Blod, saving his life. Woodstalker flies back into town once more and breathes again. Valgrin goes down under the poisonous gas. Finrod makes himself a target for the dragon and gets clawed for his troubles and nearly dies. Woodstalker continues to make strafing runs over the ruins and eats Desmond. While the dragon pauses to devour his snack, Stephanie connects with an arrow from the bow Ti-Cat made for her. Other arrows follow and the dragon falls from the sky and dies from its wounds. It takes out most of the grove and some of the slave pen in the process. The remaining orcs flee the city upon seeing Woodstalker defeated.

Several prisoners are released from the Hextor prison, including the invoker Claudius, Renard the ranger, Siltin, Jason and Andara of Azrella. The other slaves are freed from their shackles and the debris of the pen they were held in. Four died when the pen collapsed, but the other 58 survived. The wounded are rounded up and give a place to rest and recover. Jason begs a cleric to help Andara. The Hextorites forced her to drink some vile potion and it made her incoherent, as if she was deeply drunk. Unfortunately, nothing can be done for Andara's condition. Claudius and Renard join the Seekers.(TF#42-48)

Roster of the Seekers: Cereld and Lord Validar (PL), Araduin, Arathron, Arocken, Bernice, Blod, Claudius, Dar Thaltus, Eagle, Finrod, Renard, Stephanie, and Zynara.

June 21st -

(The Frontier) Seekers recover from the battle in the ruined city with Woodstalker. Arocken explores the dragon's den and finds its treasure. In the back of its cave lair he finds a large, locked stone door. Zynara realizes that the stone door has Elder writing on it, warning explorers not to go any further. The group debates what to do about the armor worn by the Hextorites whether it should be used by some one in the group or destroyed. Cereld settles the issue by having the armor destroyed. Treasure is handed out and new spells are learned. It becomes clear to the Seekers that these ruins were used as a staging area for the Hextorites in building up their army units to send against Gateway. Only a few supplies are left, but there is evidence that there had been many more. They discover that these ruins were once the Keln city of Mesilva. (TF#49-50)

June 22nd –

(The Frontier) While testing the magic rod given to her, Zynara mysteriously vanishes. She returns a short time later, explaining that the rod took her to paradise. Cereld discovers notes about the mind-numbing potion that the Hextorites tested on Andara. Other notes show that the priests here were instructed to gather bands of humanoids and send them to Gateway along with many of the mind numbing potions. These orders were all signed by Har once more. (TF#50-51)

GM Notes: Har was essentially the Hextorite tasked with conquering Gateway. The Seekers found orders signed by him back at the Whispering Hollow Temple. He would be a thorn in the side of The Seekers for a long time.

June 23rd –

(The Frontier) The Seekers depart Mesilva and begin their journey back to Gateway, fearing that the city is under siege. They travel across the Keln Road, but going is slow as the road has not been tended to in decades. Jason and the others rescued remain behind. Cereld promises to come back for them. (TF#52)

June 26th –

(The Frontier) A pack of wolves advance on the Seekers while they camp, but are easily driven off. (TF#52)

June 28th –

(The Frontier) A bear crosses the Seekers path. (TF#52)

GM Notes: After weeks spent crossing the old Keln lands, the Seekers are now on their way back to Gateway trailing the enemy army.
