CR 571 May

Post by GM Mad »

May 2nd –

(The Frontier) Dwaladin of Vergadain, priest of the Dwarven God of Luck and Wealth, joins the Seekers. (TF#7)

Roster of the Seekers: Cereld (PL), Arafel, Dalliance, Dar Thaltus, Dwaladin, Finrod, Flint, Radagast, Raeden, Stephanie, Ti-Cat, and Lord Validar

May 5th -

(The Frontier) Ti-Cat finishes making a bow for Stephanie. (TF#7)

May 9th –

(Stephanie's Tale) The Crown Prince arrives in Gateway to send the Adventuring bands off into the old Keln Lands. While the adventurers are gathering, Lord Kelvin bulls his way through the crowd and nearly runs over a young boy. Stephanie pushes Lord Kelvin aside just in the nick of time saving the boy. Furious, Lord Kelvin tries to hit Stephanie. She ducks and then strikes back, putting Lord Kelvin on his back. Now even more enraged Lord Kelvin goes to attack Stephanie with his sword, but is intercepted by the Crown Prince. Lord Kelvin meekly backs down once he realizes just who he is dealing with. The Crown Prince, who saw the whole incident transpire, dresses down Lord Kelvin, leaving the nobleman fuming.

GM Notes: Yes Marcus is a jerk. And yes, Stephanie tends to punch people who annoy her.

May 10th –

(The Frontier) Finding Wendy's message for help on the mission board, Lord Vanarkus and Stephanie meet with the young woman. She relates that ten years earlier her father, Akbar, traveled into the Keln lands and was never heard from again. His diary was later found and returned to his family. Using the diary, Wendy intends to find him, but desperately needs help. Her father traveled to a place called Whispering Hollow deep in the Keln lands a decade ago. The Seekers decided to help her. (TF#7)

GM Notes: There was a mission board in Gateway where various tasks and help wanted ads were posted. I mentioned several of them, but the one with Wendy looking for her father Akbar was the one the Seekers became interested in. Those names were based on NPC's from the earlier live games.

May 11th -

(The Frontier) The Seekers depart Gateway with Wendy riding east on the main Keln road. Near the end of the day they reach Wykroft's Waystation, a caravan stop one days travel from Gateway. The stop over was rebuilt in the last year and is run by Wykroft. The Waystation offers a place for adventurers and caravans to stop safely for the night. Much like the posts along the High Road, those along the Keln Road are one day's ride apart. Unlike the ones on the High Road, only those stops closest to Gateway have been restored thus far. (TF#8)

GM Notes: The waystations on this side of Gateway are a new invention, since it just makes sense to have a safe place to rest every days travel apart. Others will turn up during the early posts of the Sword of Doom game.

May 12th -

(The Frontier) The Seekers reach Sven's Stop, the next caravan stop along the old Keln Road. Unlike Wykroft's Waystation, Sven's Stop is still under reconstruction. But there is enough of it built up to offer a safe haven for the night. (TF#8)

GM Notes: And this is the last sign of civilization. Beyond this any camp sites are uncontrolled and the roads are not maintained. Due to the slower travel speed, it now takes 1.5 days to reach the next stop over.

May 13th -

(The Frontier) The road going east from Sven's Stop is in worse shape from years of war and neglect, forcing the Seekers to slow their pace as they are riding into uncontrolled territory. (TF#8)

May 14th –

(The Frontier) The next caravan stop over from Sven's is reached and found to be in ruins and no one lives here. (TF#8)

May 16th –

(The Frontier) The next caravan stop over is reached near midday. It is abandoned ruins. (TF#8)

May 18th -

(The Frontier) Near midday, the Seekers leave the main road and travel south on a dirt path based on the directions given in the diary. Ankhegs erupt from the ground and attack the Seekers. Radagast and his mount are dragged down into a pit, while other worms attack Cereld and Lord Vanarkus' mounts. The ankhegs attacking the horses are defeated and the group goes down into the pit to rescue Radagast. The Seekers defeat more worms and finally the mother ankheg. The body of Radagast is found partially consumed. The elfin mage Araduin walks up to the Seekers having heard the battle. He was with another adventuring band, but got separated from them in a similar attack. Raeden annoys everyone with his unique point of view. Everyone speaks their peace and most reject Raeden and his views. The dead are buried and the group continues onward. Araduin joins the Seekers. Stephanie names her new blade Lightning after the battle. (TF#8-12)

Roster of the Seekers: Cereld (PL), Araduin, Arafel, Dalliance, Dar Thaltus, Dwaladin, Finrod, Flint, Raeden, Stephanie, Ti-Cat, and Lord Validar

May 22nd –

(The Frontier) While following the directions in Wendy's father's diary, the trail they are following is crossed by another path. The footprints of hundreds of goblins are noted and they are heading off to the north and east. Wendy realizes that this road is noted in her father's diary. This places the group a few days away from Whispering Hollow to the south. The goblins came from the South and west and that track leads into the mountains. (TF#12)

May 25th -

(The Frontier) The Seekers reach Whispering Hollow and notice a small temple to Hextor outside it. They decide to split up into smaller groups to investigate. One group of Seekers is led by Lord Vanarkus with Araduin and Stephanie and they ride into Whispering Hollow using one of the entry roads. Once in town they go to the Inn of the Whispering Elm and meet the Innkeeper Derla Crum. There are a few patrons in the common room of the Inn, but they quickly depart before nightfall. Derla notes that you don't want to be out at night in Whispering Hollow. She tells the group that all the trouble is being caused by something the villagers call the Mountain Monster. Even the Hextorites fear the beast. Derla also reveals that Wendy's Father took up residence in a mage tower to the south of town and that he is believed to have freed the monster. Uncertain about what they are dealing with and concerned about their companions, Lord Vanarkus, Araduin and Stephanie take rooms for the evening.

After Araduin, Stephanie and Validar ride off, a second group of Seekers go off to enter town from a different direction. This group consists of Arafel, Raeden and Ti-Cat. Arafel leads her group through the forest towards one of other roads leading into Whispering Hollow. They are ambushed by goblins. Ti-Cat tells his companions to ride back to the others while he heroically buys them time by engaging the goblins. Arafel and Raeden comply and Ti-Cat is never seen again.

The remainder of the Seekers stay behind in reserve and to keep Wendy safe. From their vantage point, they see Lord Vanarkus' group enter Whispering Hollow and go into the Inn, but the second group of Seekers is not seen. They hear the howl of some beast far off in the valley below. Wendy vanishes from the group and Arafel and Raeden return without Ti-Cat. (TF#13-15)

GM Notes: Ti-Cat's player was leaving the game and asked for a heroic exit. I gave him one.

May 26th -

(The Frontier) Finrod, Dalliance, Flint, Raeden and Arafel ride off to rescue Ti-Cat. They reach the site of the ambush and find Ti-Cats fatally wounded mount. There is no sign of Ti-Cat, but his broken sword is recovered. Tracks show the goblins dragging something heavy towards Whispering Hollow. They then ride back to the main group to report their findings.

Araduin, Stephanie and Validar rise and go down to the common room at the Inn. Derla tells the adventurers that the Hodkin's place was attacked by the Mountain Monster last night. After breakfast they ride to investigate. They find evidence of a huge creature slaughtering the Hodkin family. After a time, a group of goblins show up and attack. They are easily defeated. Araduin questions them and learn that they are working for the Hextorites. The group rides back to the Inn.

The main group sees Lord Vanarkus, Stephanie and Araduin leaving the Inn. A short time later they spot goblins coming into town and then following after them. Raeden uses his druidic ability to speak to animals. A squirrel tells him that Wendy just rose up into the air and flew away. Cereld decides to have the entire group go after the goblins and try to find Ti-Cat. Before they can leave, several adventurers approach them. They were following the Seekers trail thinking that it was their own adventuring band. This was the band that Araduin came from. With these new recruits in tow, the Seeker ride into town and meet up with their other members at the Inn. The newcomers are Arathron, a half-elfin ranger, Dantar, a human rogue, and Finius Sly, a halfling finder. (TF#16-18)

Roster of the Seekers: Cereld (PL), Araduin, Arafel, Arathron, Dalliance, Dantar, Dar Thaltus, Dwaladin, Finius, Finrod, Flint, Raeden, Stephanie, and Lord Validar

GM Notes: The initial part of this recap takes place just after midnight than it proceeds to morning.

May 27th -

(The Frontier) Reunited, the entire group decides to attack the Hextor Temple in an attempt to find Ti-Cat and Wendy. The Seekers split into two groups and come at the temple from opposite sides. A few goblin guards are dealt with and both groups reach the main temple entrance easy enough. Entering the temple, the Seekers proceed down a corridor. The far end of the corridor opens up into the main area of worship. Its styled after an inverted pyramid, with the main altar down at the bottom. Seven priests of Hextor are present.

While the Seekers move forward, strange winged reptile-like creatures come from concealed openings on either side of the corridor. The priests below are alerted to the Seeker's presence and battle begins. Goblins rush out of side doors in the main temple area to help their Hextor masters. Finrod and Stephanie slay one of the strange reptiles and upon its death, it changes into a dog. Flint, Dalliance, and Dar Thaltus slay the other reptile and it too changes into a dog upon death. The Seekers slay the priests and the goblins, but a mage appears on a higher balcony and tosses a Lightning Bolt. The bolt downs several Seekers and shatters Stephanie's shield. The mage slays Dwaladin before fleeing for her life. She manages to reach her horse, but is taken down by the Seeker archers. Dran, the so-called Last Guardian of the Temple moves to attack those fighting by the altar. Dran fights several Seekers and downs Stephanie and slays Flint before falling to Lord Vanarkus' blade. A quick search reveals no one else is present at the Temple. The Seekers are victorious, but bloodied. The wounded are taken to the Inn to recover and the citizens of Whispering Hollow welcome the Seekers as heroes and liberators. (TF#19-23)

Roster of the Seekers: Cereld (PL), Araduin, Arafel, Arathron, Dalliance, Dantar, Dar Thaltus, Finius, Finrod, Raeden, Stephanie, and Lord Validar

May 28th -

(The Frontier) While the injured Seekers rest and heal, the rest of the group perform a thorough search of the Hextor Temple. A map of the old Keln lands is found in the head priests quarters. It shows the location of New Keln and the primary Hextor Temple there. A note is found saying that all goblin forces are to be gathered to march on Gateway by order of Har. Other Seekers search for Wendy in the area around Whispering Hollow but are unable to locate her. (TF#23)

GM Notes: During the posts, there really wasn't any time given for people to heal. So things were changed just a little bit so that those who were wounded were resting at the Inn, while the others searched. Finding the location of the main Temple of Hextor was one of the things on the Mission Board back in Gateway. This gained The Seekers a reward later on. Next we move on to June!
