The farther one gets from the bright center of the galaxy, the further one gets from the truly organized rule of law. It often falls to those with the most wealth, the most strength, or the most cunning to determine what really passes for “right.”
When powerful people accuse a top agent of an Outer Rim syndicate of murdering one of the scientists of that same syndicate, it seems like a foregone conclusion that the agent will be lost. In hopes of resolving the situation beneficially, the syndicate’s head reaches out to freelancers to see justice be served...
The team has been hired by Ranem Tivv, a businessman of significant influence in the Rodian system to meet with and clear the name of one of his finest agents. Five days ago, one of the businessman’s scientists, Dr. Gena Tan was murdered, and pressures from the businessman’s competitors have directed accusations onto his top agent.
Contract for: Clearing the name of Lt. See Bonuda and identification of the true murderer of Dr. Gena Tan. Lt. Bonuda, agent of Tyrius Sysworks Syndicate, is currently facing trumped-up charges of murder of Dr. Tan, another TSS employee.
Lt. Bonuda is in hiding at a converted apartment building, 32 Yusk Avenue in the Residential District. He will provide further details on the job.
Irdis had been volun-told to deal with this situation. It was delicate as it involved local authorities so it required a "disconnected" hand to navigate the situation. Flying back to Karsteeku, the team began the investigation first by meeting with Dr. Tan's assistant, Tora Ninn. Tora had contacted Irdis while he was off-planet, first to tell him that she seemed to be followed regularly and then about the murder of her boss, Dr. Tan. Irdis had given the Rodian xenobiologist access to his own private study, lab and living quarters, for Tora's own safety. Irdis seemed to quite seriously suspect the lieutenant that was under duress himself of the murder and had asked Tora a number of pointed questions about the encounters she had with See Bonuda.
Eventually the Archelon's crew met with the lieutenant himself. They had to find his hideout which was hidden on the second floor of an abandoned cantina. After bypassing a number of traps and surveillance equipment, the team meets Bonuda's protection team and is led to a conversation with Bonuda himself.
“Listen – here’s the deal. Tiiv’s already filled you in on my... situation.”
“While working for TSS, I also held a lieutenant’s position in the Rodian PSF – the local authorities. It’s because of my work there that I’ve been able to stay in the wind for the past week.”
“Unfortunately, that can’t last forever. I know the RPSF’s protocol, and they’re going to have all the evidence for the case centralized at their HQ here soon. ”
“That presents a unique opportunity – I know that there’s... a certain datacard – disconnected from network traffic, for security – that I desperately need. It’s going to be on the move here probably ...“ He checks his chrono – “...sometime today.” If you can find where and how that evidence is being transported and recover it, I can make sure that this whole situation gets taken care of advantageously for everyone.”
“Once I’ve got that data card, I can clear my name and help Tiiv solve this murder for real.”
Questioned about the contents of the datacard, See Bonuda explains that it contains a datamined holorecord from a hidden security device at the scene of the crime – one no one originally knew was there.
His alibi was quickly brought up and it was unfortunately thin. Bonuda was circumspect – he was working alone in the slums tailing a lead in one of his cases. Documentation at the PSF headquarters will verify that he was in this area (the Residential District) the night of the murder. Bonuda says that the PSF’s headquarters are in the Administrative District in the Government Seat, but that the data service, which is independent from the PSF is located outside the city and will be transported in by vehicle with other contraband and material evidence.
Finished with the questioning of Lt. Bonuda, before the team goes searching , he leaves them with one last warning:
“Oh, and be very careful not to tamper with that datapad with the holorecord. Even trying to inspect its contents might trigger any locator packages the PSF has embedded in it. I mean it – no tampering. Bring it back here, and I’ll be able to work with it.”
Now faced with finding the location of the datacard and its transport and intercepting it was the task at hand. While team had interrogated and question Bonuda, Roona had worked some of her own contacts. She had a friend of a friend who used to work for the PSF and was now part of the Karsteeku logistics operation start to collect information. The first item was that there were three more inbound times that the bubble surrounding the city would be opened. Rodian cities often employed an environmental shield, which required strict controls for entering and leaving.
Eventually even more information was forthcoming at the cost of 150cr. The likely convoy time was extrapolated and a rough list of the convoy's contents was determined. The expectation is that there are firstly three personnel and cargo carriers. These were SoroSuub’s APC-2s, a testbed of features for a military personnel carrier. They were well-armored but had a perceived lack of armament. Then there would be a Jailspeeder prisoner transport. Finally a number of smaller escort swoop bikes, used for scouting and pathfinding. The idea was to hit the convoy while in the Rodian swamplands rather than wait for the arrival in the city. That would likely make the task drastically more difficult, especially if the cargo is delivered to PSF headquarters.
One last intriguing bit of data, one of the prisoners being transported is a member of the Sarlacc Syndicate. This was a Rodian criminal organization based out of Nar Shaddaa but with cells on various other planets, including Rodian.
While this is going on, Xander received a specially coded message from Arda II asking if their "regular delivery" was coming soon.
