World of Cynalon History

Post by GM Mad »

World of Cynalon History:

Here's a brief look at the history of the campaign that is commonly known or has been revealed in the individual games. The campaign takes place on the planet Arret. In its solar system, Arret is the 3rd planet out from the sun. It is an Earth-like planet and much like our world it has a single moon which is named Selune after the Moon Goddess. Arret is slightly smaller than Earth and closer to its sun, so the Arretian year is only 336 days long. This works out to 12 months of 28 days each. For simplicity each month is named the same as our standard ones.

I'll also be offering some GM Comments with insights, teases for future story lines and such.

Ancient History:

Much like our own Earth, a humanoid civilization was not the first race to rise up. On Arret there is a now long gone ancient race that scholars call the Elders. What the Elders called themselves is unknown. All that is known is that the Elders lived a very long time ago (millions of years ago) and the only traces that remain of them are writing on stones in ancient ruins. These writings have been translated via magic and some scholars can read these writings without the aid of spells.

Somewhere around 700,000 years ago, the modern races start to appear. The first race to appear is the elves, at least that's what the elves say. The dwarves claim that they came first. No one can say who is correct for certain. Given their preferences in living places, neither race probably had much contact with the other in those early days. The other races don't appear until much later.

It was around this time that a humanoid race grew into power on fifth planet of the solar system, a world the inhabitants called Damocles. Eventually, they would be known as the Alphatians and they would forge a mighty empire based on magic.

GM Notes: All questions about the Elders will be revealed somewhere down the line.

The Dawn of Civilization:

Around 50,000 years ago the first great elfin civilization rises in Evergreen around the Mother Tree, the living symbol of the elfin gods' love for their children. Five thousand years later, an elfin civil war erupts when Goddess Lolth attempts to overthrow the elfin gods. She fails and is banished, as are her followers on Arret. These elves flee into the depths of the earth and in time become the Drow.

Around 25,000 years ago, the first great human civilization rises. It is called Blackmoor and legends says that its rise is tied to strange technologies that their people had found. Whatever these strange magicks were, Blackmoor destroyed themselves five thousand years later.

The Blackmoor disaster had dire global consequences. More than half the living things on Arret died as a result of the catastrophe. The climate changed dramatically and the Elves in Evergreen found their lands freezing over. The elves are forced to uproot the Mother Tree and transport it to a safer place. Decades later the elves settle in the Sylvan Realm and re-plant the Mother Tree.

Time passes and more and more civilizations rise up. Around 18,000 years ago the Nithian civilization appears as do the Traladarians, a human race that live in what is now called the Inner Kingdom of Cynalon. They soon find themselves enslaved by a race of jackal-headed humanoids called the Hutaaka.

Less than 10,000 years ago, King Dorwynn of the Sylvan Realm uses the Rainbow Bridge to take many elfin clans to a new home in the Dorwynn Elfholds as the Sylvan Realm has grown too small for the elfin population. The humans and dwarves living in that area are stunned to find a lush elfin forest suddenly spring up where none was before.

GM Notes: Much of the elfin lore was covered in the Elfquest game and the Hutaaka actually appeared in Blackflame.

The Great Horde:

More than 5,000 years ago, the orc king Loark assembles the first great humanoid horde. For nearly twenty years this army conquerors and enslaves much of what is now the Cynalon lands. The horde is broken when a strange artifact, left over from Blackmoor, is found in what is now called the Broken Lands. The artifact explodes killing many, inflicting those who survive with a strange wasting disease, and, literally, breaking the land. The survivors of this horde settle in the Broken Lands. Conflict between the inhabitants of the Broken Lands and those to the south become a regular event.

Elsewhere, the widespread Nithian civilization becomes corrupt and strange cults begin to rise within. Many of its colonies declare their independence. One such colony becomes the Land of Fate, while another is Thothia. Everything comes to a head some 2400 years ago when the Gods are said to have destroyed the Nithians. The Nithian civilization vanishes seemingly overnight. The Nithians were cursed by Isis, another alias of Mystra, when her mortal daughter, Queen Rasara, was murdered by cultists.

Two thousand years ago on the planet Damocles, fifth out from the sun, the Alphatian civilization is in the throws of great civil war. Emperor Alphaks leads the Alphatians, but he is being influenced by the Crown of Eternal Night that he wears and becomes a lich. The rebels are lead by former Admiral Nylsara, another mortal child of Mystra. In his madness, Alphaks opened up what he called a “Vortex of Chaotic Magic” in his throne room and threw Nylsara inside. This action triggered a massive explosion that lead to the destruction of the planet. Alphatian survivors travel to Arret and settle on a large island chain and begin to rebuild their civilization. Their other-worldly colonies declare their independence.

Eighteen hundred years ago, a being calling himself the Witch-King conquerors the land of Vassa, a wasteland in northern Brun. He gains control of all the lands in the area and all swear fealty to the Witch-King or suffer. Some 600 years later, a group of five Alphatian mages achieve Lichdom with the aid of the Witch-King. In turn each of these 'Lich Lords' is given a part of the original Crown of Eternal Night, now called collectively the Crowns of Eternal Night, amplifying their powers.

GM Notes: The stuff with the Nithians and Alphatians and the mortal Daughters of Mystra tie in with Jylsera and the Clash of Empires game. Back in the mid-90's I did write a short story about the origin of the Crown of Eternal Night. Since there is almost no way for it to be told in game, I'll summarize it here.

A dwarven master craftsman was given the task of creating the crown for Emperor Alphaks to wear upon his coronation. To that end, he traveled to Arret and the Glory Hole Mine, a dwarven mine with legendary amounts of ores and gemstones in it. There he hoped to acquire the purist metals and brightest gems for what would be his greatest creation.

While in the Glory Hole Mine, a drop of black water fell on the craftsman and remained in place. In time the black water would slowly spread across his skin until it eventually would completely cover and corrupt him. The black water was of course the same water that would later control people and led to the showdown in the Beleme Swamp in New Frontiers.

Now controlled by “He Who Shall Not Be Named”, the craftsman made his crown, but instead of returning to the Alphatian home world, he flew his ship into the heart of the galaxy. At the galaxy's center lies the Pit of Despair, something akin to a super massive black hole. The craftsman threw the crown into the Pit of Despair and waited. Days later, the Crown came back transformed in to the evil artifact we know today. Once Alphaks wore the crown, he was controlled by it, became a lich, and eventually destroyed his own world.

So in short, “He Who Shall Not Be Named” is the creator of the Crown of Eternal Night that transformed Alphaks, which led to the Witch-King which led to the Lich Lords, and so on.

Also of note is that the a portion of the “Vortex of Chaotic Magic” made its way to Arret. It wanders around the planet's oceans and has become known as the “Wild Magic Tempest”. Its a great magical storm where many strange things can happen.

The Fellowship of Mages:

Around 1150 years ago, a different group of nearly two dozen Alphatian mages band together to form the Fellowship of Mages. This group is tired of the politics of their own people and are dedicated to learning and protecting others from magical threats. They build the great city of Elcadan on the western shores of Lake Amsorak. The city is circled by eight great towers, each dedicated to one of the base schools of magic. A ninth tower located in the center of Elcadan connects to each of the outer towers and houses a Mage Guild. The Fellowship lays a Mythal upon the city giving it unique magical properties.

After construction of Elcadan is complete, the Fellowship turns its attention to the hordes created by the Witch-King and his lackeys the Lich Lords. The humanoid hordes are broken and sent fleeing back to their dark master. In the southern Vassan city of Oos, the Fellowship battles and defeats the Lich Lords in a conflict that shatters the city. The Lich Lords are imprisoned within the ruins and in turn Oos is buried beneath the earth and magically shielded. The Crowns of Eternal Night are taken back to the Elcadan Mage Guild for safekeeping.

After the defeat of the Lich Lords, Fellowship Mage Gaz starts construction of his Tower of Magic in the Silver Sierras in hopes of replacing the one destroyed on Damocles. The mere presence of the Crowns of Eternal Night are enough to trigger insanity and other mental ailments to those around them. An unknown Fellowship mage opens a gate to the Abyss inside Elcadan and demons pour forth. Much of the population is killed and the rest flee. Among the protection spells laid in the city when the Mythal was laid was one creating a barrier that kept evil creatures from the lower planes from entering the city. The barrier now worked in reverse and kept the demons that were pouring through the gate to be trapped inside the city.

The survivors of the Elcadan disaster move to the east and settle in the ruins of Darokin, a human city along the Streel River that had been razed recently by an orc horde. Lacking the ability to lay another Mythal, the surviving members of the Fellowship created what magical demonic defenses they could. They built the mage guild tower and Elcadan Castle on islands out in the Streel River. They call their reclaimed city New Elcadan.

More members of the Fellowship descend into madness and leave New Elcadan. With most of its members gone, the Fellowship officially disbands. Several of the members become Lichs and build deadly dungeons to protect themselves in the years that follow. Rumor has it that one of these few mages left unaffected by the evil power of the Crowns was the founder of the Sallavarian family line.

The Kingdom of Darokin:

With the Fellowship no more and their influence vanished, leadership of New Elcadan is openly contested. Ansel Darokin, a descendant of the city's original founding family, becomes king some 980 years ago. He calls his realm the Kingdom of Darokin and New Elcadan becomes his capital. Ansel reverts New Elcadan back to its original name of Darokin City.

The Darokin family rules for nearly 70 years until the King, Ansel the Third, is slain battling an orc horde near what is now Fort Nell. This new horde is fought for over six years. Eventually the horde is driven back with the help of the elves of the Dorwynn Elfholds. Corwynn Attleson becomes the new King of Darokin.

Some 670 years ago, the Witch-King raises a new horde. This horde follows the traditional route of passing through Corunglain and heading south. Along the way, the remote castle of Demara the Enchantress, another former member of the Fellowship of Mages, is sacked and the insane sorceress believed to be slain. After many years of terrorizing the Kingdom of Darokin, the horde moves into the inner Traladarian lands. The Hutaaka, the jackal-headed masters of the Traladarians, flee into their Lost Valley for safety, leaving most of their slaves behind.

Around 600 years ago, Moorkroft invades the Sylvan Realm in his quest for immortality. He has a legion of orcs, humans riding wyverns and a few fire giants at his command. The Feador, the last elfin clan in the Sylvan Realm, decide to simply wait out Moorkroft, as humans have such a short life span. The majority of the clan passes over the Rainbow Bridge to the Elfholds, while others remain behind to tend to the Mother Tree.

The Kingdom of Cynalon:

After ravaging the southern lands for nearly 100 years, the great horde is broken. The leader of the adventuring band that spearheaded the effort, Victor Vaughn, is named the King of the Traladarian lands. He names his domain Cynalon. Most of the former Traladarian Nobles swear fealty to their new king, but some secretly resent his rise to power. King Victor the First marries Christina Tranth and in time they have two children: Crown Prince Victor the Second and Princess Veronica Vaughn.

Notable associates to Victor Vaughn include James and Stephanie Sculley. James becomes the first Archmage of Cynalon. The couple's first child, Renee was kidnapped as a baby and when rescued had been magically aged to twenty years old. In time Renee would become the second Archmage of Cynalon before eventually vanishing without a trace. The couple would also have a son they named Justin.

Renowned adventuring partners of the King included: Akbar Salazar a warrior from the Land of Fate to the west and his wife Zina. Lina Pertan was a famous woodswoman of note and the warrior Logan Dansius who would later become King Victor's seneschal.

Other powerful associates include the great paladin Valen Artho and his wife, the sorceress Elenia. A few years after Cynalon was formed, the couple embarked upon a great quest to defeat the Witch-King and traveled north to his land of Vassa. They, correctly, assumed that the Witch-King was the source of all the humanoid hordes that had plagued this region for centuries and sought to remove his influence. It is assumed that they failed, for neither was ever heard from again and the Witch-King still rules to this day.

Kingsport had been the traditional capital for this area, but King Victor decided to build a new city to be his seat of power. To that end, the City of Alexandria was constructed to the north, named after his mother. The royal palace was built there, along with many noble estates. The grandest of these estates belonged to the Sculley family. Construction of this modern city takes decades.

GM Notes: A broad stroke view of the original game started back in the summer of 1981. With the exception of Valen and Elenia, the others were the real NPC's from those days. Those two were added much later. While in the modern games, we've pretty much avoided the City of Alexandria, the second chapter of The Life and Times of Relon Vanarkus provides a sketch of it.

The Next Generation:

Once he is old enough, Crown Prince Victor the Second goes out adventuring with his sister Princess Veronica and family friend Justin Sculley. A trio of adventurer's join with them while out on the road in the early days. The dwarven warrior Magnus Flatrock, the half-elven Maidel Silverleaf, and Wendoylne Pyotrev, a human Priestess of Heironeous. Together they freed the village of Orlane, located along the Streel River across from the Great Swamp, from the thrall of the Reptile Goddess.

The group continued to have adventures together and were later joined by Ariel Calihar, a skilled warrior. Together they faced down the Master of the Desert Nomads to the far west, and even defeated the Lich Queen Varalla in the ruins of a giant-sized castle that would one day be known as Karn's Keep. Prince Victor and his allies traveled to the Lost Valley and discovered the remains of the Hutaakan civilization. Realizing that they were a dying civilization who poised no threat to Cynalon, they closed off the valley to protect them from other outside threats.

After ruling Cynalon for thirty years, King Victor the First steps down from the throne so that he can 'retire', setting a precedent that most Cynalonian Kings do not sit on the throne until death. King Victor the Second marries Ariel Calihar who becomes Queen of Cynalon. Princess Veronica Vaughn marries Justin Sculley, uniting the bloodlines of those families. King Victor the Second and Queen Ariel have ten children in all. The first of them are the twins Crown Prince Victor the Third and Princess Rachel Vaughn.

Once they are of age, this new generation of royalty and nobility goes out to adventure some 520 years ago. Accompanying the twins on their adventures out in the world is their younger sister Princess Jacqueline and brothers Prince Aaron and Prince Vincent. Accompanying the Royals is their cousin Jason Sculley, the son of Veronica and Justin.

The group decides to sail the Southern Seas in search of adventure. Along the way, their ship breaks apart in a magical storm. Crown Prince Victor washes up alone on a strange island. On this island he comes across an amnesic woman named Irena Hendricks. The two share many adventurers, the first simply surviving this strange island. They encounter a band of pirates led by a man named Sonaj and his lover, a warrior named Stefandia. Later they find Victor's twin Rachel, who is now an older, hardened commander of a large military force for many years now.

Eventually Victor figures out that not only was their ship wreck no accident, but that it was part of a plot concocted by his younger brother Prince Vincent. The plan was to seize the Throne of Cynalon, aided by nobles who resented the Vaughn Family's rise to power. Crown Prince Victor and his associates had actually been cast into another dimension where Vincent had planned for them to be exiled for the rest of their lives. Not only that, but each member of the group arrived in this other dimension at a different point in time and most of them lost their memories in the process. Princess Rachel Vaughn had arrived years earlier and had risen to the rank of a commander in the military of a local king. Jason Sculley, also now older, had become the Pirate Lord Sonaj and so on. The years passed in this other realm and Victor found his younger sister Jacqueline, but never did find his brother Aaron.

Restoring Irena's memory was the key to escaping this other dimension as it was her own father who had caused the Royals to be exiled here. By the time the group had returned to Cynalon five years have passed since they left. King Victor the Second still sits on the throne, but now Crown Prince Vincent is poised to replace him. The group storms the Royal Palace and Vincent's plot is exposed. The treacherous Prince flees his father's judgment and escapes to plot against Cynalon for many years to come. Victor the Third marries Irena Hendricks and they become King and Queen some 510 years ago. Victor the Second rules for thirty years, just like his father had and then retires.

GM Notes: This section covers the relevant details of the Victor 2 and Victor 3 games. Victor 2 is more in sync with what actually happened in that game while Victor 3 is mostly just the core concept and not the strange places it wandered off to.

Strange Happenings:

A strange incident occurs some 425 years ago. A series of unusual murders occur in Kingsport during the heat of the summer. The cause of these attacks are traced back to a strange insect-like race they call the Hive. The Hive is a collective race of insect-like creatures of various forms, each bred for a single purpose. The whole Hive is ruled by a queen. Adventurers uncover the Hive activities and put an end to their summer of terror.

In the uncontrolled lands to the east of Cynalon, a strange obsidian castle seemingly appears out of nowhere 287 years ago. The master of this sprawling fortress calls himself Emperor Keln and declares that this land is now the Keln Imperium. The obsidian castle is called Shadowkeep, the Fortress of Dark Magic. Emperor Keln enforces his will on those living in the area and soon all the various warring factions there serve him. Many strange cults begin to rise in this troubled land, including the Cult of Elemental Evil and the Hextorite Priesthood. Relations are tenses between Keln and those lands around him.

The Kingdom War:

The City of Selenica in the Kingdom of Darokin is overrun by a horde of orcs and burned to the ground 191 years ago. Duke Selenica, feeling abandoned by the Darokin King due to his lack of aid, turns to Cynalon to its south for help. The Cynalonian Army, aided by units of dwarves and elves defeat the orcs. The City of Crossroads is built on the ruins of Selenica and the Duke swears his fealty to the Cynalonian King, Tellon the Fourth. The new domain is named the Duchy of Graystone.

Enraged by the betrayal of Duke Selenica, King Santhal Darokin the Second, declares war on Cynalon. A ground force marches from Darokin towards the Duchy of Graystone, while a naval armada sets sail from Athenos. The Kingdom War rages on two fronts: the lands east of Graystone and the southwestern lands of Cynalon. The Graystone front holds and Cynalon pushes its armies west to capture the City of Dolos. Lands to the south are gained and lost as the ebb and flow of war continues.

Taking advantage of the distraction the Kingdom War offers, a new horde of humanoids led by orcs drives south from the Broken Lands. The City of Corunglain is overran and burned down due to the lack of troops to defend her 185 years ago. A temporary peace treaty is brokered between Cynalon and Darokin to combat the humanoid horde; the effort spearheaded by Jezak Sallavarian of Darokin and Regina Sculley of Cynalon. They join forces and move on the invading humanoid horde. The two armies meet the horde north of Favaro in what would be called the Battle of the Streel Plain. The humanoid horde is annihilated under the combined kingdoms' might. Once the horde is defeated, King Santhal Darokin breaks the peace and immediately attacks the Cynalonian Forces. King Santhal is slain in personal combat against King Tellon Vaughn the Fourth ending the Kingdom War. By right of victory, King Tellon claims all of the lands of the Kingdom of Darokin as his, folding them all into the Kingdom of Cynalon.

Cynalon restores order to the former Darokin lands in the years that follow. Most of the existing lords swear fealty to King Tellon the Fourth, but some hold out against his forces. The Duke of Athenos is the last to surrender. The name of the former Capital of Darokin, Darokin City, is changed back to Elcadan. Jezak Sallavarian and Regina Sculley later marry, uniting the two great magical families together. The two Archmages build a large estate for themselves north of Elcadan City. Aided by dwarven engineers, the City of Corunglain is rebuilt.

GM Notes: Jallarzi covered the Kingdom War in greater detail to both Stephanie and Argent in there separate tales.

The Damning of the DeVilles:

Lord Matthew DeVille of Elcadan makes a dark pact with Orcus by sacrificing his wife and most of his family to become a Vampire 153 years ago. His granddaughter, Eleanor DeVille, is changed into a "Daughter of Orcus" in the dark ceremony. The Anti-Demonic defenses of Elcadan force Eleanor to abandon her ancestral home or be destroyed. Eleanor DeVille relocates to the City of Akorros. In time she has three daughters Abigail, Josetta, and Thelma who are Alu-Demonesses. The three daughters, over time, have numerous children who are all tieflings, mortals with demonic taint.

The Swords of Cynalon:

The Swords of Cynalon adventuring band is formed 61 years ago. Among this group were Lord James “the Red“ Sculley, Lord Validar Vanarkus, Lord Valerian Vanarkus, Lord Jalizar Sallavarian, Arak Stonehand, Melchor of Heironeous, Beleme and Nightmist.

A major horde of humanoids invade from the mountains in the northeast portion of the kingdom, between Cynalon and Rockhome. Fort Nell is destroyed. The horde moves along the western edge of the elf lands, occasionally moving into the Elfholds where they are repelled. The horde splits into smaller groups and harasses the eastern side of the Streel River for several years. A side band of orcs are held off by settlers near the Elfholds border north east of Wrassledown. The orcs are chased away by the elves after two days of attacks. The settlers are led by Orson Plowman and the new settlement is called Plowman’s Stand in his honor.

To the south and east, the main band of humanoids seize control of the city of Dolos and lay waste to it. It becomes their base of operations and travel on the High Road becomes very dangerous. The horde meet little resistance as the Duke of Elcadan drew his forces back to protect his capital. Enraged by the cowardly act, King Victor the 5th takes the Barony of Dolos away from the Duke of Elcadan.

The Swords of Cynalon rescue the infant Prince Victor the 6th from the Cult of Black Flame at a ruined castle north of the Great Swamp 56 years ago. His older sister, Princess Theandra, is not found. Evidence is found that Keln was behind the kidnapping of the Crown Prince. Sir Validar VanArkus is rewarded by being given rulership of the Barony of Dolos. The name of the barony and city is subsequently changed to Pyris. Baron Validar VanArkus, aided by his younger brother Lord Valerian and the Swords of Cynalon, removes the humanoids infesting Pyris. Rebuilding begins and Baron Validar marries Lady Gwendolyn Pyris. Then together they begin their reign as the Baron and Baroness of Pyris.

The Battle of Shadowkeep:

Having spent the last several years removing the horde from the east side of the Streel River lands, the task is finally complete. With the western borders of Cynalon secure once more, King Victor the 5th turns his attention back to the Keln Imperium. Gathering at Crossroads, the Cynalon Army, backed by numerous adventurers begin their march into the Keln Lands by capturing the City of Gateway, using the city as the launch point for their invasion into the Keln controlled lands.

Fifty years ago, the Cynalonian Army lays siege to the Temple of Elemental Evil. The Demoness Zuggtmoy is imprisoned within the Temple. Karn's Keep falls to Cynalon, but the Sword of Doom is missing.

The Battle of Shadowkeep ends 46 years ago. The Cynalonian Army lays siege to the stronghold of Keln, the infamous Shadowkeep, the so-called Fortress of Black Magic. The King and his finest warriors enter the keep to confront Keln directly. Shortly after entering, Shadowkeep vanishes, as if it was never there. The remaining Keln forces and Cynalonian Army nearly wipe each other out. With Keln gone, the Imperium falls apart lacking a strong leader. The various factions fight among themselves and for the time being leave Cynalon alone. The Hextorites seize control of the coastal city of Keln's Port and rename it New Keln. It becomes their seat of power. The largest island south of the Imperium becomes the City-States of Phelang. Militant mages rule various factions and battle for control of the Island. This fighting carries on to the present.

GM Notes: The Swords of Cynalon post also covers some of this era and the first chapter of The Life and Times of Relon Vanarkus shows what it was like post Battle of Shadowkeep.

The Horde Strikes:

While Cynalon fought Keln in the Great War, the humanoid hordes regained their strength and invaded once more. This time they overpowered a skeleton crew left behind to man Fort Fletcher. With the gates of Fort Fletcher wide open, the horde descends on Ardelphia. Dwarven settlements in the region fall to the raiders, including the city of Hammerfall, the Thunderdelve stronghold, and the Glory Hole Mine. The horde lays waste to Ardelphia. Meeting little resistance, the horde takes its time to enjoy its pillaging. Many Ardelphians flee to Corunglain or lands to the south. The horde moves south from Ardelphia. They find Rennydale virtually abandoned and burn it to the ground. Crowlerd and Bronsdale fall later in the year.

In the spring 41 years ago, the Siege of Akorros begins. The Cynalonian Army makes a major stand here and holds the humanoids at bay for a year. But Akorros eventually falls and the army withdraws to the Fort Streel Span, the fortress that protects the only bridge that crosses the Streel River in this region. The bridge was built on small islands in the river, with the fort standing in the middle of the river on the largest island. The fortress holds back the invading horde. Eventually the humanoids give up trying to take down the fort and instead continue to march south where they wander aimlessly, plundering as they roam.

A strong leader rises among the humanoid horde 37 years ago and the invaders sack Elstrich. The Defenders of Cynalon adventuring band is formed, led by Lord Relon Vanarkus. Among its members include Lord Jidaran Sallavarian, Taron Cavius and Logan Rowen. The city of Elstrich is reclaimed from the humanoid hordes after five years in an effort spearheaded by the Defenders of Cynalon.

What remains of the horde reaches the ocean port of Tenobar. The city falls, but most of the horde is wiped out in the process including its leaders. What little remains of the horde flees. The Defenders of Cynalon are on hand and help many escape the city. Among them are the sisters Lady Jenae and Lady Lysandra Golovkin, the later becoming Lord Relon’s future wife. Lord Jidaran Sallavarian and Jenae Golovkin are married.

GM Notes: Chapter 3 of The Life and Times of Relon Vanarkus goes into greater detail about these times, while the Fall of Tenobar was retold in New Frontiers # 113-114.

Re: World of Cynalon History

Post by GM Mad »

The Present:

The Cynalon Army led by General Logan Rowan, aided by the knights Sir Alon Teramar and Sir Justin Moore reclaim Gateway from the Blackhand Goblin horde and their Hextorite masters two years ago. Lord Validar VanArkus is on hand as one of Sir Alon's squires. Squire Armon Flamehilt is present as well.

From this point on, Campaign History is covered in the timeline recaps for the individual games.

GM Notes: Sir Justin Moore was another knight who showed up in Borderlands. While Validar was Sir Alon's squire at this point in history, Armon was Sir Justin's squire.
Try it and find out!
